Ajmal santal wood. If you have ever visited a temple in tamil nadu, there are so many aromas I the air. Sandal wood,flowers, rose water, turmeric... it's just so divine! I was amazed when I sniffed ajmal santal wood edp. It captured that smell so well and accurate! Great job by ajmal.

What a beautiful voice u have my brother. I’m sending you a hug and love from NYC. I too adore sandalwood. Thank u so much for suggesting Best sandalwood. I’ve been hoping to find somewhere to buy Mysore. And no Richwood doesn’t have Mysore anymore. Xerjoff has replaced it with patchouli. They finally admitted it. Richwood hasn’t contained Mysore since before 2012. I wish I knew about good perfumes back then. I was just getting into niche and Tom Ford and Creed were the only perfumes I liked

I rang the company and they said that real sandlwood which is the edible type is not supposed to smell. I am confused because i cant find anywhere on the internet that says some sandlwoods have no smell. Can you advice me please.

I've only experienced Australian Sandalwood. Even then, I find that it can be a complete perfume in itself - very contemplative and meditative and a bit tangy. Its amazing how long its last on the skin (diluted in carrier oil of course). I heard from a blogger (that i trust) that Neela Vermeire's Trayee contains real Mysore sandalwood.If thats true, thats my only point of reference for what Mysore sandalwood roughly smells like. I also have a few of Sultan Pasha's attars but the stuff is so complex i probably couldn't pick out the sandalwood from the other base notes. Sadly, I've never had a chance to smell the real Mysore sandalwood oil. I've never tried the EDP of Tam Dao before. The EDT smells like the wood shavings to me, is the EDP different?
@danlightened2 жыл бұрын
Been 4 years since the comment, did you get a chance to smell the real sandalwood? I am from India and as Nikhil Bhai says, have been smelling it at various places since we were kids. It's used a lot here. Although we have smelled it many times, I can't say we have smelled the best grades. Since it's so expensive, not everyone probably uses a good grade. And as he mentions, it's also largely restricted now. To me, it smells partly like Vetiver. Like hay. Both are sweet but I find sandalwood to be more creamier and milky. And if you haven't come across actual vetiver, that too is a perfume in its own right. And that too is abundant in India. Also, the vetiver used in modern perfumery is from Indonesia etc cause it's a cleaner note. The wild vetiver in India has other facets like cool earthy, dark, spicy etc. The cool facet is why it's used in drinks and coolers here during summer. And I'm not sure if you know this, but a piece of sandalwood can be rubbed on a stone with some water and you can get sandalwood paste and applied on skin. (Has a very cooling and calming effect.) The wood is that soft. I've always found that amazing.

Well done and very informative. Do the false Sandalwood scents usually smell 'soapy' ? Lately that is all I've been sniffing when it comes to essential oils so I've just stopped searching .You have many places listed below where you mentioned one can find a pretty good 60 - 70% real Sandalwood scent. Which one was it ?
@EleniEliades_6 жыл бұрын
Exotic Scents : I will do that. You are so helpful. I've always had an interest in fragrances and the stories they tell or memories they bring back. Also have created a few 'oil only ' mixes for my own use and wore them to a small gallery opening, just smaller stores so people are closer and the scent of my oil fragrance can really fill the space. The owner of a bookstore went a bit wild one time -he started yelling who is that! Who's wearing perfume? What is that wonderful scent in here! ? I went up to the counter and told him I think it's me...Then he wanted to know where I bought it because he's never smelled anything like it. So I told him I made it out of different oils. Only problem with this one is I needed something fast so no measuring was done and didn't write down oils I used. So of course this fragrance which, to my surprise, ended up being one of my better creations...is completely lost. It is GONE. Such is life. ~☆

Richwood is a bit too much for me. It smells like it has an authentic base but whatever else is in there that boosts/morphs/pushes the fragrance into a cloud, strikes me as synthetic. I have an old bottle of it and I’ve had to dilute it then dab it in order to not offend others because it’s that strong. I tend to stick with vintage Chanel and Floris offerings for my Mysore Sandalwood addiction. I’m going to be sad when my bottles run out though. And yes, good sandalwood oil will definitely either turn you on or put you to sleep (or both, in that order).

Wow, thank you for your detailed suggestions! I'll need quite some time to "live with" Ensar's 7 oud samples in my order first to get an inkling of my oud preferences. Re AgarwoodAssam, I've sent shop owner Zak L. a message via etsy to ask which courier service he uses for international shipping, but he still has not replied. You wouldn't happen to know, would you? Hehe. It's just that I feel more assured with door-to-door couriers, preferably DHL, as we have a highly dubious customs bureau here. I know it's only been less than a day since I messaged him, yet I'm getting somewhat anxious because I already want to order their Mysore classic, but there are only 3 bottles left! Also, I wanted to take you up on your offer of help. Would it be okay to email you? I'm kinda wary of disclosing my more personal "aspects" in a public comment. Thank you!

@gunmetal24457 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I have a sample of Santal Royale but I haven't tested it properly yet. I did a quick sniff a while back and it felt quite animalic and smoky. Do you think thats a good reference for 70s mysore sandal wood? I have a bit more experience with Ensar Oud's Santal Sultan (the one that Kafka likes). Its a very different take of sandalwood, smoky, deep and resinous. I enjoyed it but i have to admit i was underwhelmed to be honest, i guess i had a different idea of what it smells like in my mind. I've personally never smelt old mysore sandalwood so i don't have any preconceived notions of what it smells like.
