Been there done that. What did you leave out? A 22" belt sander for large flat surfaces. You could have done the dresser in 1/3 the time. 22" v. 4"--no comparison. Of course, you'll still need your surf prep for finishing and tight areas. The point is, you really need both. The 22" belt sander is amazing for large jobs like flat dresser tops and tables. IMO, if it's nice wood or delicate, strip it first, use the sanders for clean up.

I tried the Ryobi mouse sander thing too and I find myself almost never using it for furniture. I used it with some success on my railing too scuff it up prior to new stain, but for flat and wide surfaces... I'll take my DeWalt orbital and finish corners by hand 🤷♂️ I will at some point invest in the surfprep, as I think investing in the tools you use the most makes the most sense. Quality paints/stains and prep tools are key.

I have an old school right angle porter cable Random orbital sander. It’s a beast. It’s my go to when removing paint

Hi Natalie, as far as the Surf Prep orbital goes, why would someone buy that over a DeWalt/Ryobi, etc brand? I plan on buying the 3x4 Electric Ray but I have never understood why someone would spend the money on their brand of orbital.

What a great video!! Thank you!!! I would love to see a side by side comparison like this between Surf Prep and Festool someday as I don't have a sander yet and would love to know who the winner would be in that situation?!

I have the DTS from Festool ($200) and use the granat sand paper usually with 120 grit to remove paint. I think it would be just as good as the surf prep in terms of time and a lot less of an investment. Yari at Lily Moon Paint has a comparison video of the those two brands on her KZbin channel! You should check it out

We all know Surf prep is good but the price is REALLY prohibitive

True. And that’s why I figured out an alternative that’s a lot cheaper. But you definitely get what you pay in that case.

AirVantage is the OEM of Surfprep and can be found for cheaper on Ebay or Amazon.

The surf prep sander is great but big disappointment after finding out that you cannot buy in Australia.

If you use sandpaper instead of screen with the surf prep sander it would have come off instantly
