I really found it amazing that they didn't blur out or censor the breasts on the breast cancer survivors. It's quite silly when media overreacts to seeing uncensored breasts, claiming they're sexualizing it, slutty, desperate, have no respect for themselves/the people who are around them, etc. This challenge was not imposing anything sexual, but more focusing on the art itself; these tattoo artists were giving people their lives back. It's really quite beautiful. Well done!

I agree! I appreciate how respectful they were, and even though this comment was made a while ago, you might find it interesting that women way, way back didn't cover their breasts. @stumpy11462 жыл бұрын
@@TheWifeRottenRomance Can they reconstruct those? I genuinely don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if they could at this point in medicine.
@TheWifeRottenRomance2 жыл бұрын
@@stumpy1146 there are reconstruction options but they’re involved and sometimes difficult. A lot of the time implants are used, which come with their own risks (including making detection of future cancer harder). For implants, they often have to put expanders in so the skin is stretched enough to have room for an implant. Expansion can be painful and takes quite some time. Reconstructing nipples is complicated. Most commonly they will use surrounding skin to give the texture and appearance of the nipple, sometimes then tattooed to actually look like an areola, because otherwise the skin doesn’t have the color differentiation. Sometimes they can use the remaining areola for it, or even borrow from the areola on the other side if it’s still there. The easiest technique is to tattoo nipples on, so that the breast looks “normal,” though it won’t have the same sensitivity. And even with those reconstructions, there will still be scarring. Frequently very bad scarring, because many doctors do not try to minimize it. Often times mastectomy scars are much, much worse than they ever should be. Plastic surgeons should be a requirement for all breast cancer surgeries, even lumpectomies. All of these reconstruction options require more surgeries/procedures and healing time. But so much of a woman’s femininity is tied to her breasts. So there’s the toss up of wanting to still feel feminine/attractive/appealing, but also wanting to not deal with even more trauma and surgeries. 😕

Anyone else notice that when the judges were walking around commenting on the tattoos the contestants had just done, they seemed really complimentary of their work instead of like, condescending? I think maybe Bc it was for people with scars and they wanted to encourage them that they had been covered well. They wanted to be encouraging to the canvases. Also I think the tattoos were good, but I mean, the judges always seem so down on everyone. But not this time
