I actually really like how they never show on camera any of the explosions. It's all from within the bunkers. Not only does it add realism and tension to the scene but it makes your imagination run wild.

I'm watching a movie, not reading the book, the point is to visually tell the story and this was a very abstract way to do that. To me this is not very realistic, unless they are using absolutely massive aircraft to drop non-nuclear bombs that are as powerful as nuclear bombs.

Coin was very smart here. The Capitol didn't know exactly where to drop their bombs because all their targets were underground. They were counting on 13 to reveal themselves by fighting back, so they would know exactly where to drop their bombs. Going dark and riding it out was the best chance they had to hope the Capitol would fail to drop their arsenal in the right spots to do maximum damage.

By the looks of it the capitol were using strategic bombers armed with massive ordnance penetrators. So in reality these bombers could have easily been shot down with surface to air missiles. Also the use of surface to air missiles wouldn't reveal that much more of District 13.

@@Teemo6544 The capitol bombers would have been very vulnerable to surface to air missile. So a surprise SAM attack would cripple any capitol bomber trying to drop their payload. Also surface to air missiles can also be used outside of the range of district 13 so any incoming bombers would likely be shot down before entering district 13s airspace. So in reality district 13 wouldn't reveal that much of 13 if they engaged the capitol bombers.

She has no reason to not believe him. She was expecting that there would be some kind of retaliation for the dam and that the Capitol figured out 13 was involved. Even if she didn't believe him at first, she wasn't going to gamble with the lives of her citizens. Better safe than sorry.

If he was lying, the worst that would have happened was another air raid drill which would cost them nothing but a little wasted time compared to the huge implications if he were right but was ignored. It was a no brainer and an easy call to make.

Their mother has not been “normal” since their father died. That’s the look of someone trying their best to keep it together. Katniss’s warning when she’s reaped the first time was a wake up call, but you can tell that it wasn’t gonna be easy and still isn’t. Even when Prim dies, she doesn’t break the news to her, tending to her care instead.

@@eddytriana8060it does, there was a reason that the capitol didnt use their own nuclear weapons in this assault, implying that mutually assured destruction still applies in Panem which is really interesting given how asymmetrical the fighting was. The reason district 13 didnt go into the fight alone despite having nuclear weapons, and instead waited 75 years for a mass movement against the Capitol was because if they just nuked the Capitol, they would have likely done the same to 13 and all the other districts

Snow probably knew it was over once Peeta said what he said. Suddenly everyone finds out District 13 exists, they learn that Peeta is being tortured or held against his will, and of course they are shown that the capitol can't control as much as they would like.

They did a good job of using this scene to make coin look like a decent person. That way anybody going into this blind, with no knowledge of the books could be genuinely surprised by the twist in part two.

I took notice of that. She had more human elements in the film. The kindness/false empathy she shows when she meets Katniss and acknowledging the Games may well have done an irreparable number on her. Her concern about sending her to 8. The scene where she spoke about the wait for the return of their rescue team was poignant too. It made me wish they'd have gone full spared by the adaptation with adaptational nice guy thrown in

I know this is Hollywood, but if this bunker is at level 40 underground (and let’s assume each floor is about 12 feet tall, this is about 480 feet underground. Unless the Capitol was dropping really heavy weapons (which should have penetrated bedrock into the first few levels of the base), conventional weapons shouldn’t shake the bunker as violently as it was doing in these scenes.

Exactly the logic behind this scene is quite stupid. Even Massive Ordnance penetrators can only penetrate 60m or 200 feet . So If the capitol managed to develop a bunker buster capable of penetrated down to the bunker It would likely be too heavy to deploy even if dropped from something like a B52-Startfortress or TU-95 Bear and the aircraft shown in the films are much smaller than those strategic bombers. So in reality it would have been really difficult to even damage district 13 even if you carpet bombed it with MOPs

Despite Gale's morals becoming somewhat questionable as The Hunger Games progresses, he was absolutely ready to follow Katniss to the end of the world. He would stand up for her, protect her and defend her. In Mockingjay part 2, when Jackson or whatever her name was demanded Katniss for the thingy that detected tramps and she was about to shoot Katniss, Gale was absolutely ready to take a life just to protect Katniss

They wouldnt have been destroyed. The Capitol still didnt know the location of their most sensitive areas. However more civilians would have likely been killed in certain areas had the evacuation order not been given earlier (as was noted by Coin after the attack acknowledging they will remember what Peeta did for them), but their military capabilities would remain intact.

Actually it could be the exact opposite. Capitol wanted Coin and his team to see this live broadcast, so they have time to prepare the fleet and their forces for counterattack. In that case the capitol instantly could locate and destroy their weaponry..

I know many found this movie to be the weaker of the 4 but I thoroughly enjoyed Mockingjay 1 and 2. I’ve always enjoyed the war/ military aspects of the Hunger Games and the MJ movies showed that really well.

From the scenes I saw where they show the radar and mention numbers, one squadron looks to have 4 bombers. So in the whole thing, each wave is made up of multiple squadrons. Looks like 12 each wave most likely as they started off with 3 squadrons (4 bombers each) and ended with 12 bombers (3 squadrons). Truly a massive attack

She probably didn't know that detail. Even so all they figured out is where short range defense was. They still don't know where the hangers for the airships are or where the arsenal is. So a minor slip up on her part but still managed to get things under control before it was too late.

She didn't know they were working on outdated intel. Coin was only able to realise it due to where the bombs were landing. At best, they hit corridors and only caused minor damage. Otherwise they were only hitting bedrock. All of their fleet remained intact, and that should have been a priority if the Capitol knew where it was.
