The way the human General talks makes me think that he's a transplant from a modernish Earth. Maybe the only one, or maybe part of a group (although I suspect the doctor being another such transplant). And the General or people like him was where the knowledge to build gunpowder weapons and the tactics to use them came from (not to mention building an economy that can produce such weapons as mentioned in the story), because you don't just invent all those things overnight.
@mill27122 жыл бұрын
Either that or the Elves so held up in their old ways, did not notice or ignored advancements in technology that other races made (Humans in particular) And apparently, it came to bite them.
@johnnymellon74142 жыл бұрын
Pretty much all entities waging succesfull campaigns, be that before or after the invention of gunpowder, were well aware of economic and logistic requirements. Considering that the elf mentioned magic existing, it might very well be, that they either had no interest or even distain for conventional sciences beyond a certain degree. And I get the impression that the "time" is off. At first it sounded like the rebellion was going on for maybe a year at best, but the longer the story went on, the more I got the impression that this has been a process going on for many years if not decades. Might very well be, that if the elfes in the story are very long lived or immmortal, that to them it started "yesterday", while in reality the rebellion started 20y ago
@noppornwongrassamee89412 жыл бұрын
@@mill2712 Nah. From what the general said, they built these weapons and economy to support them in a few months. Maybe a few years at most. Almost certainly inside a single human generation. That's way faster than how these weapons and tactics developed in real life, and real life had the existence of constant European warfare to drive that development (which still took centuries). Remember, these humans had NEVER used these weapons in real combat before this battle. That wouldn't be true if they had spent centuries fighting each other and refining their tech and tactics. So at the very least, they didn't actually invent these weapons and tactics; they must have gotten them from somewhere else, whether it's humans from another world or just an independent human polity outside the elven kingdom. And again, the way the General and Doctor talked compared to how the other characters talked makes me think the General and Doc are transplants from modern societies.

there was this one shot that i have forgotten the name of on HFY I think. crude summary is the elven society needed more magic to power their cities and they used all of the magic they had to keep themselves alive for indefinitely so when they found the human plane where the humans had a magic of their own and no way or no how to use it they would come every few hundred years for a culling, go on a murderous ramage for a bit before returning as heroes, they did this for a while and for the majority of their history the humans put up no fight, it become a sport of sorts before eventually the humans started to get a bit organized, this at first did nothing, their weapons primitive. next the humans were more organized, better arms and armor, they injured and killed a few elves but still ultimately lost. the third and final time of note, the elves arrived, magical shields up, ready for a slaughter! they got their slaughter, however not as they expected, with the sound of a thousand thunderous claps their army torn to shreds by a human encampment on a hill. their army shred to bits as their proud and mighty magical spells fell under the onslaught. as the general of this army pleaded for mercy, their only answer? "the United States of America doesn't deal with terrorists" before being executed. other than some paraphrasing and some holes being filled the story ends there to my knowledge.

In WWII Mad Jack Churchill is documented to killing an enemy with a longbow and not only carried a sword into battle when he was forced to leave it behind to evacuate wounded and went back to get his sword. It is difficult to tell the difference between the wound of a sword and bayonet, the documentation may be lacking. That does not mean that carrying a sword and bow was a meaningful thing in WWII. The people that got the most benefit armor aside from helmets in WWI were tank crewman. if you have muzzle loading rifled muskets with Minié balls you can stop both cavalry and infantry charges without meaningful number of enemy soldiers getting within melee range. Study Pickett's Charge.

@@jasperzanovich2504 have you looked at the development of warfare? There was a very long overlap between the introduction of firearms and the discarding of armour in widescale use. More guns is not the solution. Better technology and tactics are the solution, and arming troops entirely with muskets only because viable after the development of the bayonet. Before that they were also using pikes, you know that 16-18 foot pointy stick. And even at the start of the 1700s you still had some pikemen on the European battlefield.
