My first phone was a clam shell Sony Ericsson Walkman w300i that was connected to the docomo network. It had a colour screen and i-mode, which featured WAP (early web functionality) once it was rolled out across Japan in '99. Amazing technology compared to what was available in Australia at the time, where different coloured backlight, txt and snake were considered amazing. It must have been one of their first models as my wife bought it for me while we were living in Tokyo between '99 and '03. It is strange that Wikipedia states that it launched in Q2 of '06. They do incremental upgrades so if you upgrade every few years then you deinfitely notice the difference.

If Huawei hadn’t been banned by the US, would everyone be using Huawei phones now? At one point, they were producing low-cost but high-performance phones, and they were selling incredibly well. Huawei surpassed Apple, and just as they were about to surpass Samsung, they got banned. Additionally, the increase in TV, mobile, and billboard ads also contributed to their rise. I used to see the Huawei brand everywhere, and everyone preferred Huawei. In my opinion, Huawei is the phone brand that made the best breakthrough on this list.

Huawei was on a serious rise, no doubt. If the US ban hadn’t hit, they might’ve given Samsung a real fight for the top spot.

Yes, you are right, maybe one day it can be at the top again, let’s see what time will show... I really enjoy watching your videos. Doing so much research is very exhausting, and editing videos is even more tiring. I congratulate you, and I will be eagerly and curiously waiting for the next one:)

If you are looking at companies and not brands you should be consolidating Oppo, Vivo, iQoo, OnePlus and Realme under their owner BBK. Numbers would be completely different as BBK is #1 for a very long time now I believe. Also another interesting metric is to have mid to high value phones as Apple doesn’t have mobile phones which are $150 each

True, BBK owns all those brands, and if you combine them, it’s a different ballgame.

I remember when the first iPhone was released. A friend’s dad was a patent lawyer for Apple and got his wife one and I got to scroll on it. It was awesome.
