I ask a go outdoors member of staff which is the best selling meal from the adventure food brand .
Throughout all the go outdoors, past carbonara is the best seller, which I'm very surprised, but let's give this meal an honest review.

I have had my own experiences with backpacking meals. I agree with your assessment about the flavor and quality of ingredients in packaged fresh food meals as opposed to dehydrated/rehydrated meals. I made beef jerky and packed it along to cook up with rice. I took elbow macaroni and a can of spam. Bringing a yellow onion and a potato is not a problem. HOWEVER, at the end of a day on the trail carrying a pack, rehydrating a meal in a bag saves time, uses less fire, and leaves an easy clean-up.

Dan give the raspberry crumble dessert from decathlon a try!.. id love to see your reaction on that before I decide to buy a bunch of this kind of good for camping. A massive thanks to you and your family for sacrificing time with each other to bring us these fantastic videos, I personally would love to see you & your good lady/family do a camp for the channel(although I get it if you'd rather not show your loved ones on camera for personal safety reasons). And lastly thank you for encouraging me to "be that person" who just goes for something before I let myself over think it & then talk myself out of it😉 we all appreciate you👍👏

Back in the day, when I was a lad ,( 1970's era!) we just made cheese sandwiches, for a day out. Or overnight, those small multi pack cereals and tins of rice pudding, tomato soup and beans! And full bottles of Irn Bru to carry with our haversacks !

I wish adventure foods would put the lines in the bag for measuring the water like other brands do. My work around is to make a fold in the bag to get the amount right. Pasta bolognaise I think is best in Adventure Foods

Another great video EW. Not a fan of dehydrated meals, but then again, having the luxury of carrying everything in the car I have to worry about weight a little less. I do (like you) though prepare fresh meals at home that can be simply reheated once you're at camp.👍

Good on the trail for a hot meal. Once you get to camp, then get your fancy stuff out. I like how easy it is to pack up as it is lightweight, and less bulky than a can.

I know it would take a little more time and and gas, but spaghetti carbonara must be one of the fastest/tastiest pasta dishes to cook from scratch.... however you probably wouldn't save any money if you used good pancetta, parmesan and free range eggs. Smokey bacon, barn eggs and pecorino would still do very nicely, with a bigger helping, for less than half the price. I'm sure other freeze dried meals would offer better value for money.

Well done Dan ... another great video. I've tried a few of these backpacking meals & found them ALL to be a rip off .. low quality & low tasting expensive food ... How about a video where you compare side by side. Buy a couple of Go Outdoors or other camping dehydrated meals like the Pasta Carbanara ( ham & cheese pasta ) like you have just done in this vid .. alongside something like Batchlors Past'n' sauce packets .. ( ham & cheese pasta ) Also try and match similar meals like spagg-boll or chicken & bacon these cost less than £1 from B&M type shops ... I know you have to cook these for 5 minutes or so ... but you can do this while you're waiting the 8 minutes for the camping meals to re-hydrate ... Then do an honest taste test Call it the ... ' Cost for Taste Challenge ' ! ! ! whhooppee I'm sure your people would love to see the results ..

Considering its £4 per meal are you better off getting those Huel dehydrated meals and sticking a few scoops in a bag? If you're really interested in money saving then perhaps thats a better way to go about lightweight dehydrated meals.

I really like the pasta carbonara from adventure foods, I also like the chicken curry and pasta Bolognese, if you use the exact amount of water they recommend, as opposed to the "line 8" etc...(my jetboil and titanium pot have measurements on the inside) they re hydrate really well. Adventure foods meals seem to be the best when it comes to being consistently ok. Some other brands are really good with one menu option, but others are total garbage. You get what you pay for with adventure foods. I've tried loads of other brands, and the only other brand that appears consistently good is blä band....but they cost a fair bit more.
