Thank you for this video Ben! G85 is so underrated. I use it as my primary B-cam with an Ursa Mini Pro. Sometimes when I work with other video guys they totally overlook the G85 or offer to put their GH5 on a tripod in its place. They mean well but they have no idea that the G85 totally holds its own. I think it gets dismissed because of it's so much smaller than other cameras. I use the "natural" profile a lot for video shoots outdoors--use the zero-ed out settings exactly like you do. Panasonic just got the colors right with this little camera. Thanks for another great video!
@b3naqua5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree about the G85! Image quality is superb - so good that I’m still using it in 2019 as my main studio camera. Only thing I crave with it is better video AF, more slow mo frame rate options, and no 4K crop, but really I can work around all of those things. I also love how cheap the G85 has gotten! I’ve seen the body for under $500 which is ridic for the quality.

Ben just got G85, mainly for video and am loving it. Your video was very helpful in some areas. Quick question though... How did you setup your camera to get incremental ISO stops. My camera only does ISO doubling for ISO values?
@b3naqua3 жыл бұрын
When your G85 is in a photo mode (A, S, M, etc), go into settings, tap on the top left camera icon, scroll down to ISO increments and change it to 1/3 EV. That will give you more incremental ISO settings. Hope this helps!

You make a lot of sense. Natural setting may not have as much dynamic range, but who cares. If the final product looks great for clients it doesn't matter. The moot point is that Panasonic must have spent so much money and talent to get the natural profile. So just use it as it is.

If I were you, I’d set the camera frame rate to 60fps at 1080p. The higher frame rate will make your movements sharper and more realistic looking than 24fps. 24fps could work too if you want a more “cinematic” look, but your body movements won’t be as fast.

I wonder if its the same for G85 lol I mean technically shooting 4k always look better than shooting 1080p but when down sampled to 1080p, if the quality difference is minimal that there's no need to sacrifice the crop factor and file size :/ what do you think?

i think people is mistaken. why not convert 4K to 720p ? haha. let's wait about few years when monitors and tvs stoped producing in fullhd completely. Era of 4K, 8K, 16K is approaching. Do you really want eat your nails when you will be watching your 1080p videos on 4K or better monitors\tvs ?
@OpenFilmmaker4 жыл бұрын
This is based on the bitrate (MBps) of the internal codec. The Lumix G85 has 4K 100MBps and 1080p 28MBps. 100Mbps is more than 3x the image quality than the 28MBps. So people prefer the better image quality. Shooting in 4K and downsampling to 1080p would give you 3x better image quality than shooting in 1080p exclusively.
