Good video. I did come here as your friend :-) This was my question and you showed up in the search. I will check out the Best Gimbal Modes for Walking Videos later.

Thanks for mentioning Continuous Autofocus. This is important for long walking tours, so the camera can adapt its focus to difference scenes. I learned this the hard way with ND filters; one time I had AutoFocus set to "Single" and the camera focused on the ND filter rather than the background, and because it didn't try to re-focus, the entire hour-long video was blurry!!! On my next walk I set the AutoFocus to Continuous and the ND filter was fine. Funny thing is, this actually happened again; a few days later I recorded some more tests with an ND filter and somehow the AutoFocus had gone back to "Single" so all those tests were blurry. Live and learn! :)

Hi - I didn't know it could focus on the filter itself, that's interesting. I think the default is Single rather than Continuous, but the Pocket 2 does remember the last setting when it's powered off so if set to Continuous should stay that way till changed back to Single. (Just tested to make sure!) 😀

This was extremely helpful! I've had my pocket 2 for a few months now and it definitely takes a while to get used to, especially understanding all the setting options. I will definitely try out your setting suggestions and am excited to play around with the Pro autofocus settings.

Hi thanks for stopping by and your comment - yes, it certainly does take a while to get used to it. I've released another follow on video for walking tours tonight which may be of interest too : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp7dY5qDqch_n9U

You're right about all the downsides of 50 and 60 Hz, but on a big TV with lots of panning, 50 and 60 Hz can be noticeably smoother. I suppose it depends on your target audience/device (phones and tablets vs computers vs big tvs) and also how much panning you plan to do. For example, I record lots of jogging and biking videos, and end up doing a lot of quick turns and panning as I round corners and pass neat views. If I were better at planning out my excursions and slowwwwwwing down the transitions, then I suppose I could get away with 30 Hz, but 50/60 Hz is more "forgiving" of my sudden turns! :) It is, however, twice as "expensive" in terms of disk space and processing/uploading/rendering time so I definitely recommend people stick with 30 Hz unless they *see* it's too choppy. Also, I've heard that some people use "motion blur" to smooth out 30 Hz videos, so that panning doesn't feel as choppy. I think that involves slowing down the shutter speed, but then to compensate for the extra light, you need to darken the image (perhaps by adding ND filters) and that affects the colors and it all starts getting complex. So 50/60 Hz is a low complexity, "brute force" solution but yeah, it demands lots of patience and disk space!

Hi - yes that's very true. If doing lots of quick turns and paning then 50/60fps would be better. I think for nornal slow paced walking though 30 should be fine unless there are quick turns when 50/60 would be better. When I go on holiday, I worry about running out of card space!

Can I just use 60fps at all times? I have a gaming pc with 240hz and play at 240fps. 30fps makes me motion sick and seems like a dated Hollywood trait.

Hi - sure, you can film in 60fps all the time if you like and prefer it. It'll take up more space on the card but will be a more fluid motion on the videos.
