I have been using Bottom Sweeper Jigs, which have been very effective in the port area on Sheepshead, Black Drum, and Red Drum. Thinking about switching over to JawBreaker Jigs to support local business. I am also interested in trying out your rig, as your vids are a testament to its ability to land fish after fish! Nice work on the vids! Keep them coming!

I like to use the mustad Big gun in 2/0 and 1/0 really stout hook I have had great success with these hooks. It's been to windy to get out lately great video as always sir.

I have used those, I like 'em. Remember, there is always somewhere to get out of the wind at the port (if you get there early)...Thanks for the comment!

I also use the bottom sweeper. They are expensive though. If it isn’t too windy this weekend I’m going to your spot to try your rig.

What tied do you like to fish . I have tried to fish the Swansboro bridge. The current is ripping there not of the time . I was wondering if a slack tied would produce any bites

I like mustad ultra point 1/0 or gamakatsu 1/0 live bait hooks when I'm using smaller mud, rock or fiddler crabs.. I'll go a little bigger say 4/0 or so (on a bottom sweeper style jig)) if I'm using blue crab or urchins. Depends on the size of the bait for me! Great video as usual, liked the pizza one too lol

That’s what’s up, I switch to bigger hooks at the end of May when the big sheep show back up. I go up to 4/0 or 5/0. Thanks for the feedback.

Are you dropping it down letting the weight sit on the bottom?? Never been sheepshead fishing before that's why I ask.
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
I always drop it all the way to the bottom, two hooks gives the fish more to chew on and more chance to get a hook deep in the mouth.
@michaelzabriskie21052 жыл бұрын
@@offkilterfishing So you let the weight lay on the bottom, not hold it up off the bottom?

At this point you should know what the best hook is for hook up ratio can i ask which one it is? I've heard 100 people say 1,000 different things
@offkilterfishing3 ай бұрын
@@brett7794 it is not that simple. I use different hooks for different scenarios. I like 4/0 or 5/0 4X strong Gamakatsu for 2 hook Carolina rigs during the summer. Need heavy line and heavy combo to set hooks with these. 3/0-5/0 jawbreaker jigs work great year round. I use 3/0 owner hooks during the winter for smaller fish. I like mustad hooks also. It really depends on your setup and your style of fishing. Keep experimenting with what works best for you…

I totally agree, I was really attempting to show the difference that the hook thickness makes. I was flounder fishing with a large kahle hook last September and put on a sand flea to see if there were a few black drum in the area. I hooked a fish that pulled like a truck and bent the hook straight. Lesson learned.
