Really awesome video, I loved the IEM mix and your commentary and honest reactions to your own playing! Meinls sound great and I dig the way the drum riser is positioned, not the typical (sometimes boring) dead center of stage all the time (unless it is, I can't tell from the camera POV!). Nice work. Interesting listening to you critique yourself and hearing the click and backing tracks in your ear. Does the rest of the band have the click track in ear also?
@dustysaxton

Everyone in the band hears the click but all at their own preferred volume. Some of the guys only hear it during countoffs and then it’s buried in the mix. I definitely have it the loudest.

@dustysaxton

The click is mixed down with the tracks and given to me on a flash drive. I load the files into Ableton and chop them up various ways and launch them however I need them in the show.

@@dustysaxton thanks for the reply Dusty. That’s very helpful. I use my SPD-SX to run the click and backing tracks. Same as you, I get the stems from the recordings, that way if we have to go out without one or two of the band, I can trigger them from my machine.

I notice after each snare hit, your sticks sometimes rest on the drum (choking it?) vs hitting it and keeping it off for the snare head to theoretically let it resonate more - thoughts? I personally play stick down (choking it) after the hit I've noticed and wondered if there's a method you seek for optimal tone?
@dustysaxton
@dustysaxton 11 ай бұрын
I’ve noticed this too and I think I do it to choke the ring of the drum if the ring sounds bad. I don’t do it on every song.
