This is a video we did showing probably the one of the best built portable solar electric fence charger on there market, the Gallagher S16. Gallagher also makes the S10 and the S20 in the same case size, all of which are also well built.
Doing the reset on one of these units almost always fixes any sorta issue with one of these. The circuit board and the solar panel rarely ever go bad inside.
We test and repair ALL BRANDS OF ALL AGES of electric fencers, fence chargers, and fence energizers. We offer a FREE ESTIMATE on anything that comes into us for repair. We also put OUR YEAR AND A HALF repair warranty through us, lightning damage included.

Great to see an upload from you again Yeah Gallagher are without doubt making the best solar energisers out there, they're well made units for sure. S16 is a favourite out of the 3 smaller models, and then I've got a S100 out paddock grazing the cattle that's absolutely brilliant fencer with a real good output

Hi Oliver, it's been crazy busy with repairs nonstop. Plus we've been dealing with a lot of storms here and rain and flooding. It's slowed a bit with the rain, so things are drying out here for us, but it doesn't slow down the repairs. I've got the S40 here and it's a good little charger and works great. I've had it for 3 or so years and it's never stopped running. I've got it out running about 11 months out of the year and it hasn't missed a beat and still using the same battery.

THANK YOU!! I may have to replace the battery. I’m getting 6.4 V out of the battery. From the terminals I’m only seeing 1.9-1.6 KV and when I bought this in 2017 I was seeing about 4-5 KV. I’ll try to find my manual…

Your battery is reading perfect, so it's not that. It's likely inside the unit that's bad.

Nice video and thank you! I honestly don’t see how this could cover 30 acres cause I have 2 acres and it doesn’t bite very good. 1st year I had it the shock was good. I can’t seem to get that shock again. I’m thinking it’s either ground or this new polywire I bought isn’t carrying the load good. Put new battery in. Did your reset and the lead shocks me good but wire polywire doesn’t. Any suggestions on good poly wire horses can see? Ground is 1.5 foot in ground which is about all you can get in this rocky area. Maybe 2.5 foot

If your unit is not going to be portable and stay in one place, add another 2-3 rods as deep as you can and space them 10' a part. 1.5 foot or so in the ground isn't much of a ground for a unit, even on a small unit. You can never have too many ground rods, but you can have not enough. You could start there. Test your fence with a good quality fence tester, or if you want to put your hand on it, squat down to your knee to bypass your shoes and lay the back of your hand against the fence. Sometimes your shoes or boots will insulate you against the ground and you yourself won't be grounded will enough to feel a good shock, animals are basically barefoot, but you still need a good ground system. On your rope wire, if your using that big diameter equibraid wire that's big around as your pinky finger, that stuff looks good and visibility is good, but it's only got 4 conductors in it and it doesn't carry a shock all that well. Here's some good quality stuff that has more conductors and will carry a shock better and is a lot better quality, but it does cost more, but it's for a good reason. gallagherelectricfencing.com/collections/turbo-wire-poliwire-equifence-metal-wire/products/7-64th-diameter-turbo-braid-1312-free-328 gallagherelectricfencing.com/collections/turbo-wire-poliwire-equifence-metal-wire/products/1312-gallagher-turbo-equibraid

My S20 just isn’t doing enough. Any advice on modifying the unit to gave a bigger zap? Maybe capacitor or add a additional SEL battery in parallel?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity 2 жыл бұрын
You can't really go much bigger inside that unit with capacitors and such because then the solar panel couldn't keep up with the draw. Also, you may overpower the transformer by putting too much power through it. If you're not getting as much power to the fence as you'd like to see, and the voltage reading on the fence is 5kv or higher, then the only thing that might help it out some would be to add another ground rod. You should have at least 1 ground rod in the ground as deep as you can drive it in. A 6' galvanize rod drive it in 5.5' leaving just enough sticking out to grab onto. If you add a second ground rod, space them out 10' but no further and not any closer than 8' and drive it in as deep as you can and use galvanized ground rod clamps and leftover fence wire to tie the rods together works just fine.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity thanks, that makes sense. I have 4 ground rods currently, a modest poly fence but am only getting 3kv-4.2kv. I may trickle charge the battery and check it’s capacity and retention.

@@Gurusi I bigger 6v battery won't allow the charger to put out more power. All the batteries do in any unit is allow it to power up and turn on, they don't have anything to do with the power output. Also, poly rope and poly tape type of fence have a lot of resistance in it compared to regular smith wire or the turbo braid. So the longer the run with that type of wire, the more resistance the charger feels and the more a unit can get dragged down. So it could be that you just have too small of a joule of a unit for the amount of poly rope you're trying to run.

Does it show the red light when it's hooked up to the fence and ground or when it's all by itself or both?
