hi, thanks for the vid and info! with the MX Lmount how long does it last with a battery? how often do you have to change it in a day? also, if you used a bigger battery with the mount would it still fit in the bag? I am looking to guy both he orca bag and the mount...
@MisterHenry8 күн бұрын
Hi there, thanks for watching. I’ve used bigger L mount batteries with the unit and it still fits in the bag fine. The batteries normally last me just under a day but it really depends on the juice your batteries can take so to speak.

So a sony woreless with hotshoe plus a tascam and 2 lavs on you and one tascam and one transmiter on you is a good thing cz it doesnt have a cable to the camera?? At this level a rode wireless is better
@MisterHenry13 күн бұрын
The reason you record the audio separately from the camera is because most camera pre-amps are hot trash. Better to record in 32 bit float and sync everything in post. Plus it’s always a good idea to have backups. You get more flexibility too. It really depends what project you’re working on as well. I work on many commercial shoots and this set up has served me well.

Hey Daniel, Thanks for making this video, I just want to ask you how good is Zoom H5 recorder for On location Sync sound for shortfilms.
@MisterHenry2 жыл бұрын
Hey Optimal, Thanks for the comment. The H5 will do the job. But there’s no time code so you’ll have to rely on a sound clap during each take. Battery life might be very short, so you’ll need alot of spares. Just make sure you’ve organised all the files too, otherwise when you get to editing all the footage, it might be a nightmare.

How do you set up the mic for an actor that is being quiet and loud? I want the db on the mic input to be quite loud so I get good quality and no noise but then they can't be loud instead... should I use multiple mics? I don't know what the best way is
@MisterHenry10 ай бұрын
If possible I’d recommend recording your audio in 32bit float. That way you can tweak the quiet parts and then control the overall recording by using compression in post if needed. Hope this helps. 😊

That's where my system falls to play... DBX 286s! i had an actor I would constantly and every freakin take I have to say "PICK UP YOUR VOICE". So I built a portable 1U rack box and I have it set to drive her voice up since she speaks potent off screen and puny on screen lol. You can also simply lav them up too. I know it's been 10 months just answering to add to the helpings

Can you use a xlr to usb c adapter with the boom mic for a cheaper field recorder that doesnt have a xlr port. I don't have the budget for a xlr field recorder so was gonna use an adapter and attach to my phone or a cheaper field recorder. Is this possible

Hey Daniel, say if I were to try to record a video of myself singing and playing the guitar. Would a GoPro and rode wireless GO 2 mic be sufficient to record the audio levels well?
@MisterHenry2 жыл бұрын
Hey Los.97, a wireless GO 2 is more for capturing dialogue rather than recording music. It’s doesn’t really matter too much about the camera as long as the audio is good. I’d probably use a separate microphone for the vocals and guitar. Mix that audio together and sync that up with the video. You’ll find that you can balance the levels a lot better when they’re on a separate channels.

Hey Daniel - great video Quick question what is the advantage of using a mixpre 3 vs recording directly on the dslr? Also what do you think is the MIC that is the best for recording cooking videos - the sound of the cooking part ( not super ASMR ) but the actual cooking - you know frying , chopping The noise are mosly Fan, dogs barking Currently I am using Rode video mic pro plus - that I boom close the the scene - I am ok with that but we got some extra funds want to spend on audio around 3000 usd is the budget for the MIC and if needed Amplifier? ( is that the mixpre3?) Thank you very much
@MisterHenry2 жыл бұрын
Thanks James.👍 The mix pre has three top class industry standard preamps. Built in pre amps on a DSLR are not the best. Also, some mics require the preamps to supply Phantom power for it to operate, a regular DSLR camera just wouldn’t be able to provide that. Plus depending on the size of the shoot, it’s always good to have a separate sound man to make sure things are monitored correctly. If you’re after the natural sound effects of cooking, a good Hyper cardiod mic would be perfect. But your current mic should sound ok as long as the mic is close enough to the sound source.
@MisterHenry2 жыл бұрын
There’s always gonna be a better mic out there, but be aware of the diminishing returns after you spend more than 1000 usd on a single mic.

do you consider the ntg5 good indoor?

It's a really good all rounder. But if money was no issue, I'd get a Sennheiser MKH 8050 Super-Cardioid Microphone. It really depends on your budget and what you're using it for. Hope this helps.
