Antonio Antequera cid I find the clarity of dialogue fantastic. I’d loaned a Marantz SR7012 to see if my 3070 had a sub pre out issue and immediately noticed a difference in upper end clarity and Atmos effects. The Nad easily matches that. Not knocking the Yamaha, it’s a great all rounder but YPAO simply didn’t work in my room, tweaked for a long time and never felt happy. Dirac on the Nad, 30 mins ... job done. It’s stereo music I’ve found a real eye opener. You should demo mate...

The NAD T777 v3 is the bees knees. I haven't had the chance to audition the T778, but I currently own the T758 and the T777 v3. The T777 v3 is heads and tails better than the T758. It's power is stunning, and the finesse it delivers on movies during silent passages is impressive. I really want to audition the T778, but I don't find the T777 v3 to be lacking in any way, shape, or form.

I bought a Pioneer Elite earlier this year and, although it's not a bad receiver, it IS lacking in the power reserves for truly good dynamics. I bought this receiver to upgrade for Dolby Atmos capability which my much older Onkyo receiver didn't have - and I couldn't tell any difference with the upgrade. Now I realize I should have spent more time researching and testing out different receivers and I keep coming back to this one.....Thank you for the video, I am going to a nearby retailer who offers this receiver and test it out. This will cost several times more than what I paid for the Pioneer but if it really does sound as great as it reportedly does for both music and soundtracks it will be well worth the upgrade.
@windnchgo
@windnchgo Жыл бұрын
The problem with the Dolby Atmos in my Pioneer could be in the speaker set-up in the receiver which is very rudimentary, but frankly even if I were able to fix this issue I am still leaning heavily toward this receiver which has been highly praised for 2 channel music as well as an AV receiver. Since my use of the receiver is 80% music I am thinking I jumped the gun and forgot my priorities in my rush to get Dolby Atmos,

Great video - one question during the initial set up, before the Dirac Live set up, the manual indicates you need to adjust the output level of each speaker using a Sound Pressure meeter. However it is unclear if there is a target level. The image in the manual shows everything at 0db, but I have no idea if this is meant to be a target or just a random image. Any info would be appreciated.

I had this in my system for a week. Loved all of the convenience features. Thought the sound was best right out of the box. Overall, great sonic bubble gives a very LIVE impression. Great mid-to-treble range, and horns are just incredible. So why did I return? Weak bottom end. I picked up an Arcam AVR850 instead. Once I ran Dirac on the Arcam, it opened up more. While not quite as dynamic on horns, etc, it makes up for it with massive power and low level extension on full range speakers. In my view, the amp section on the 778 just can't compete. I Have huge, full range Paradigm signatures, and they just sound like a complete and full speaker with the Arcam. If I was starting out fresh today, and found some great sat speakers to run near full, with a couple punchy subs, I'd be set. As it stands, I prefer my full range tower fronts for 2 channel. If they come out with a more powerful 778 varient, I'll be sure to reconsider.

I had this same type of scenario with the NAD M33 (their flagship stereo amp, 2x200W @ 8 ohms). Much of the fault was with Dirac. I swapped to a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400, for different reasons, and got an amp that holds my speakers in a vice, with extreme low frequency control. I ordered a T778 today, for a different system in another room. Coming from my experience with the M33, what you say here resonates very well with my expectations. As long as I get that clean class D NAD sound, I'll be happy.

Clearly your ears had gotten used to boomy, unrefined speakers/amps, so they were not used to the natural sound of the NAD. It's not that it was lacking a lower end, your ears were simply used to too much, unnatural lower end!!

Hi Shane, nice video. Thanks a lot. I am currently considering this device since my Rotel RSP-1069 broke. However I have still the RMB-1075 5 channel amplifier which is a powerful beast. That's why I am wondering whether a combination with the Marantz 7706 wouldn't be the better solution instead of going for the receiver approach with the T778. Do you have an opinion on that?

I'd like to hear more about the 2nd zone options. I have a Denon and I can turn on All Zones Stereo and either listen to headphones via the amp and turn down the Zone 1 mains when the Mrs goes to bed and at the same time it feeds my Amp/TV outside. Sadly he just blows by that feature and doesn't mention it at all. I can't believe this amp does have a separate menu display output and/or menu overlay the main HDMI video signal. Having to go to the small screen is such a lame move by NAD. Otherwise completely first class-review and production values. So many of these guys like to hear themselves take. Get to the meat folks, we're all busy, but I love the ability to hear these in-depth reviews. One dude showed how to open the packing box. Really? Nice job!!

(Not sure why you'd adjust the levels before setting speaker distance though...maybe the edit was out of sync?) * whats up with that missing sub base... looks like you're 6db down by 27Hz...? I see the "woofer" integrates well, but you need a true sub. conclusion - the Room Correction flexibility and UI was the best i've seen... i'd love to have that AVR just for that reason ;) thanks for posting

His comment on the Noise Floor is telling. This receiver is not under-powered, and you should hear nothing at all when there's nothing going on: no hiss, no popping, no white noise. In audio terms, you background should be 'black'. Also the remembered settings for what you're doing - i.e., one for music (stereo), one for movies (DTS) - for examples... is very handy and makes switching from one activity to the other a breeze.

I think it is not bad option for the price. A little under powered for a class D amp. 1 combined Sub out is a shame should be individual for the price. DIRAC is very cool. I love NAD. Sold it for years. Quality control was an issue. May still be. Since it is all Chinese build. I hope it is built robustly. 26 pounds has me a bit worried the power supply is questionable. But unfortunately seems to be average weight these days. My JVC KD-85 Cassette Deck almost weighs that much. My Anthem AVM-30 Preamplifier Processor weighs almost that much too. My even be more. Is NAD now using an SMPS? Maybe, have they gone ICE modules too I wonder? NAD used to sound great when it wasn't broken. Lenbrook used to be their distribution for the USA. I think they still are. I knew one of the original reps, but he passed away from a heart attack. I am hoping this NAD is the business. Would like it better as Denon and Marantz are my trusted ones. HDMI boards reliability are a concern as it still is at Onkyo which is a total loser in failures too. Had an Onkyo and it was a poor experience. Got rid that fast. I went legacy separates like the Anthem AVM-30 for cheap. Sounds great. Built like a tank. So hoping the NAD is good. It will certainly cost enough. It was called not another defect by those in the know for NAD had quality issues.

I've owned Arcam for over 10 years. If I had a fully functioning 600, 750 or 850, which all have the class G amps, I'd be hard-pressed to say it's worth dropping so much to buy something new, because the sound "improvement" is more a side-grade/upgrade. The Arcams have just a slightly sweeter fuller sound, in my view, in the lower mid, and slightly softer highs. The Nad will be a little more neutral in those regards, a little crisper/ clearer. The main reason right now to get a 778 is it's using the ESS Sabre processor, which is just fantastic at retrieving every last drop of detail and depth. It's not night and day from the Arcams I mentioned, but in critical listening, you will start to hear the extra resolution. Only recently has Arcam adopted the Sabre chip, which I think is available in the much more expensive AVR 20 and 30. To my ears, the T778 might be thought of as getting you to 95% of the AVR20's sound, but at $1,500 less.
