This is the video I have been waiting to see for years. There are many reviewers that cover Classical and Jazz. No one who is really capable covers rock, until now. Rockin Ronny, all I can say is GREAT VIDEO. It is rare to find someone who has a high end system to listen on, has spent years comparing pressings to find the best one, and has a critical trained ear to make the call. Most reviewers and forum authors are missing one of those key ingredients...NOT THIS GUY!!! This is priceless information, thanks Ronny this will save me tons of time and money in my hunt for the best presses.

Thanks for a glowing review, this is why i am making these videos because no one else was, or is that i could find on the VC. It was my intention to inform others of my findings, I have done a lot of the leg work so to speak on the new reissues. and in my videos share the information with others, so as to help them to not buy those lemons, or let folks know that it is worth spending a couple extra bucks to get that top copy because it is so much better. Its been a lot of fun, along the way and very rewarding when you find that truly great sounding record. I am very glad you enjoyed it and took the time to express you kind words. thank you, Ron

The easiest way to find out which pressing you have or to find out information on different pressings is to use discogs.com. Just type the cat# in the search box. Rage Against the Machines S/T sounds amazing on vinyl although you may not be a fan of the music (rap metal). If you do look into getting it then the first pressing is the best sounding one by a long shot. Nice video by the way

cool site I just searched the site for david bowie the man who sold the world japan pressings and it did not show the first pressing that I own. but has tons of information on every pressing I would think but its only as good as its data base so really rare records like the one I searched may not show up here I guess but A really great tip for anyone interested in researching record pressings!! Thanks very much for your most welcome feedback I will have to remember to let the folks know in my next Video thanks for subing.
@philjohnson43810 жыл бұрын
You could always add your rare records/pressings to the site but yeah it doesn't have everything. It's cheaper than ebay to sell your records on too (they charge an 8% fee and it's free to list your records). A cool thing to do is to add your whole collection to the site and it will tell you how much it's worth with min/median/max. It's just a guideline and probably wont be that accurate if you have a lot of rare records like yourself but interesting nonetheless

7:24 I rarely trust magazine reviews. Their main function is to make money for the magazine and for the record company. That's why most reviews are compensated for in one way or another. I look for reviews from independent sources like Steve Hoffman forums and KZbin videos like this one.

Hello Ron. What would you say are the best sounding LP's from "The Band"?
@margroningen10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this excellent video. I have a question about the CSN (first album) editions. Some vinyl collectors claim that the last Rhino edition is a bit flat on the high end and focusses on the (lower) bass, while the Classic Records and original US atlantic focus on the higher sounds. I'm a big fan of Rhino records (the Bruce Botnick Doors reissues are among the best sounding remasters I have in my collection) and just ordered the David Crosby IICORMN Rhino reissue (after loving the 2006 DVD-audio) you're talking about. It just might be about what one wants: bass or more trebble. I prefer the high end (trebble). What version do you recommend, given this information? Thanks in advance :)
@RocknRonni10 жыл бұрын
As I say in my Video the Rhino reissue of CSN and David Crosby if only I could remember my Name are both wonderful sounding and state of the art. You will love both records they sound wonderful and come with my highest recommendations. They are much better than the Classic records reissues. The Van Morrison Rhino records reissues are also excellent as is the Quality records reissue of Cat Stevens Tea for the Tiller man

Ron- you mention the newer MoFi not being as good compared to other modern audiophile labels. I'll admit there are some hit or miss, but give Beck-Sea Change a spin. I have the pink version and all I can say is WOW!
@RocknRonni10 жыл бұрын
I had beck sea changes sounded good but I had nothing to compare it to thats when you find out how much wow you have. like I say in my Videos most sound really good till you compare them to something else. Now the new Mofi and the classic records don't stand up well when compared to other pressings like you say its hit or miss most times miss this is wrong they could do a better job but someone in the chain can't hear. I got inxs kick new mofi my old 150 gram original stock press was better how can they say these records are 1/2 speed mastered when an old 150 gram press sounds better? blows my mind, So I called music direct twice, they could care less they tell me they don't get a lot of complaints they don't understand what my problem is, they have not changed anything so there records must be ok, well they are ok but mofi is supposed to be the best sounding better than ok.version 1/2 speed mastered. Elvis Costello get happy 2 lp 45 rpm 1/2 speed mastered sounds nice but my original UK press killed it what a Joke 45 rpm 1/2 speed mastered my foot, they have something wrong now the Rhino stuff is great, Analogue productions stuff is wow. thanks for your feedback really appreciate your input Cheers and good listening Ron

Rhino is releasing a remaster of Hotel California on vinyl next week, I would love to hear your review of that pressing, or do you already have that record on what would be the best pressing like the Pro-Use of Abbey Road and DSOTM, where does Rhino rank among fidelity pressings like Quality records, MFSL, DCC, Classic Records, Analogue productions, etc, is Rhino the best value for the price where other fidelity companies are alittle better but much more expensive, the record is going to be easy to get, you can get the record on amazon, www.amazon.com/Hotel-California-180-Gram-Vinyl/dp/B00OJ43HFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424331805&sr=8-1&keywords=hotel+california+rhino

thanks for checking into that, sounds just like the 2012 beatles stereo box, I cant imagine a better sounding edition than the 1992 dcc gold cd that steve Hoffman mastered, I would just get a copy of that instead but they are like $200, I have the 1992 dcc gold cd of eagles greatest hits 1 and that's the best sound quality of any cd I have heard, sounds like a great vinyl pressing, has tremendous dynamic range and you can really hear the instruments ring and echo, and great sound stage too, I see why you only get records from record people, they don't tell on amazon info like you just told me, thanks again

the crime of the century is the cd version of the crime of the century by supertramp ,if younger generstions hear the cd they will never understand why it was a very heard album, i stoped at a gasoline station while in transit and saw a cd of the crime of the century and bought it, i didn´t heard for more than a decade the LP and i being in a trip to vacations in a very nice almost untoutched beach i put the cd in my car and notice that the guitars weren´t coming out so i did a replay of the 2nd song and again the guitar was mufled but i thought ,it´s my car system ,maybe one speaker is disconected but not at all ,the guitar sound just disapear ,almost nothing is heard in the cd ,.the same with a the Cult lp, "electric" that sounds as if it wasn´t electric at all, some old lp´s when younger generations hear them ,don´t understand why they were so well talked about ,this is almost a crime to music ,they really don´t hear 100% of the music and then "what is this?",youngsters don´t understand why those must have LP´s are "must have"

Plus the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon concert featuring Crime of the Century tunes and Crisis what Crisis on TWO 180gram LP's from the original tapes from Ken Scott. Check Amazon.ca for the best price.

@JamesSmith-ru7mm9 жыл бұрын
Decent video but telling people to look on ebay to find out whether their record is a 1st pressing is bad advice because a lot of sellers on ebay make false claims about records to sell them, in most cases probably in error but in a minority of cases perhaps on purpose. You only have to look on www.popsike.com and type in for example Beatles Help 1st Pressing and see the range of records you get where the run out's are completely different yet the seller claims them to be 1st pressings. Also you can't say a1/b1 is always the first pressing because it isn't. In some cases a2/b1 is the 1st pressing, With records really it varies on a record to record basis.
@RocknRonni9 жыл бұрын
James Smith when you look on popsike you are looking at all the recent ebay sales I use that as a resource as well. Next I told folks that really want to know about matrix numbers that this was not the video. I suggested there are other videos on youtube that are much better for that info. What I said about ebay is that if you look at a more popular record to see if its a first edition (not a first pressing) like say a rolling stones record there are quite a few on ebay to view you will have many sellers claiming to have a first edition and by the power of deduction you will be able to determine which ones truly are a first edition. if you watch the video again you will notice I don't claim to know about 1st pressings only the first editions or original pressings not that a 1a 1b is a first pressing that's not what i am saying, sorry if it was not clear, because of course you are right about the matrix numbers. Like I say I don't get caught up in all that matrix number stuff. I just try to determine if the record is a first edition, and when trying to help someone that has no idea how to tell any difference, I thought the advice i gave them was the most simple and accurate for them to be able to use, because it works for me. thanks for your great feedback I will try in the future to be more clear in what ideas I am trying to express. I appreciate your advice because you are correct about 1st pressings thanks for watching the video i am glad you enjoyed it.
@JamesSmith-ru7mm9 жыл бұрын
Ron Beaudry Wasn't meaning to have a go at you was just saying that in my experiences looking on ebay causes more confusion than anything else, both for obtaining information on records and also for finding values. I have a secondhand record shop here in the UK and tbh ebay causes major problems for me when buying collections because the joe public look on ebay and don't know how to use it to accurately find valuations of items they may have, so in many cases they greatly over value what they have. I'm not a conman I want to pay fair prices for things but in many cases they have such high expectations that if I were to buy them I would lose money on them potentially. A small amount of information can be dangerous in the wrong hands. I'm not saying I know everything I certainly don't and when it comes to Beatles records for example they could really do degree courses at universities on those there is so much knowledge and information out there. Anyway I watch a lot of your videos and they're of a very high quality. Keep up the good work :-)
@RocknRonni9 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much James I appreciate your most gracious comments and I also appreciate and understand what you're saying about ebay as a record dealer who's been in business for many years you can understand how eBay is actually brought the prices down for many of the very rare items but as you know it's always about condition folks always think their records are in much better condition then they actually are and there's the problem they also might have a 2nd edition versus the first edition they're comparing it too.The folks that are selling their collections,they have to understand that the buyer is in it for a profit if this seller wants to maximize their profits then they need to sell their items on eBay. And then put up with all the eBay drama it's not worth it for most folks for just a few extra dollars they might make. Good luck to you in your business and thanks for taking the time to make some really good comments
