Excellent Rob, with your vast data repository, it's great to see devices compared by category. I wonder if you might consider when reviewing a new device mentioning if it has the ability to pair an external HR monitor to it. for the record, an actual medical journal did sleep tracking and the Oura Ring 3 blew the apple watch away out of thousands of hours of testing. Another one showed the GW5 as equivalent as well. Sleep tracking is very nuanced and individualized. Good work though, but at some point you should also talk about accuracy vs precision: a precise device is still useful to health improvement, even if it isn't accurate.

Rob I'd really like you to find a way to factor in when a watch drops out the HR readings and show what percentage of the time that is happening and add it into your evaluations for HR. Additionally you've seen a lot of variation depending upon the strap. I'd like to see you measure the same watches with different straps to see how that can improve or worsen results. I suspect if you had a Garmin Watch with a sport loop type band on it, you'd be in for a few surprises. There are videos out there showing you can remove the stock bands on Forerunner watches and make them able to be swapped.

Hey, the videos are great! I know it might not seem like it's worth your time, but have you thought about testing older devices again? I just tested the Galaxy Watch 6 and 7, and they gave almost the same readings. This makes me think that the heart rate sensors can't be that inaccurate. I'd love to see more than just the "release day" tests, but I understand that those are the most important for you.

I know it'd be a lot to ask, but is there any way to download all your test results so far (heart rate correlation agreement per sport, worse sleep stage percentage agreement, average of 3 or 4 stages percentage agreement, ...) in an Excel format for all models you tested up until now? Garmin watches are actually very good health trackers outside of sleep stage tracking. They track way more stuff than any other brand, and have a much more thorough way of tracking your readiness in several ways.
@yngvenordahl2627 күн бұрын
@@passive101 Yeah, but it's only the REM sleep stage that is bad. Everything else about Garmins sleep tracking is pretty good, and the important parts of sleep tracking is total amount of sleep, and if you stick to a regular bedtime. Tracking sleep stages through wearables is a gimmick, and even the best ones aren't accurate enough to give you actionable data. Aditionally Garmin watches also track a lot more metrics than their competitors generally do, both for sleep and sports.

I checked my Polar Pacer Pro against Nuukaa/Sleep2 and found that for the final score, sleep stage accuracy is irrelevant. As long as actual sleep, continuity and interruptions between two devices agree it doesn't matter that sleep stage numbers don't. And most people just look for that single ultimate number. So I'm wondering that maybe best watches for sleep tracking should be ranked according to numbers than influence you sleep score vs those that are nice to have?
