Whoop is good, but much too expensive... similar situation as Oura. Thanks for the video Rob! Using both a Garmin FR 255 and Apple Watch SE 2, and I can't bring myself to choose between one or the other. AW tracks HR and sleep phenomenally... Garmin is set up so nicely for running/fitness, but is simply terrible at sleep tracking. If Garmin had the HR and sleep tracking of AW, it would be a very easy winner. The AW Ultra 2 is also not worth the cost for a bit of extra battery life. Guess I'll keep rocking both devices to track my metrics🤷‍♂️ I can see why Whoop is an interesting proposition since it sort of splits both down the middle... but the ongoing subscription is just too pricey.

I have an Apple Watch Ultra (first one) and the 965. My 965 is picking up my sleep almost as good as my apple watch to the point that I only wear my apple when running so I can take calls from my daughter while out. I feel your Apple Garmin war….😂 Now if I could wear a ring that didn’t interfere with weight training and bar work….id be sold.

Thank you for sharing such comprehensive reviews from a long-term user's perspective. There's nothing else like it on KZbin. I have a Whoop strap mainly for heath tracking and tracking my sleep and my runs. I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of data and, to be honest, I don't really know what to do with it. I would be very interested if you could share how you use this data in your day to day life. How do you think the average person, who's just looking to improve their lifestyle habits, can best utilize these metrics? What level of accuracy is sufficient in this use case?

Many thanks for all your videos! Have you considered differentiating between the different weightlifting exercises to see if devices perform better at some than others, e.g., bicep curls vs. overhead lifts? I'm wondering if it would be possible to group weightlifting exercises into those where devices do well and those where they struggle? Meaning that the relationship between the placement of device on the body (wrist, upper arm) and which muscles an exercise strains the most will be different exercise to exercise and therefore may impact the accuracy of measurement.

Hi! - How I included heart rate testing data: I included all data after the 2024 summer heart rate update. 4 workouts were excluded due to issues with the reference device missing signal. - How I included sleep stage testing data: I included all nights from 01-01-2024 until 2024-05-10 I had data for (the latest data I had data export for). This resulted in 54 nights of data with both good EEG and Whoop data.

I absolutely love your videos and analysis. I would really like to see you run the Apple Watch data through apps like Athlytic and Bevel. From my interpretation watching your videos, I feel like the biggest limitation you have with the Apple Watches is the data presentation. Even though they seem to have the best and most accurate data out of all the devices. These apps, specifically Bevel, seem to alleviate this issue for a lot of people. Giving balance between very accurate data and actionable presentation.

What do you expect to see in a video about apps that don’t do any measurements themselves but simply pull all the data from AH?
@Dark_Knight_89
@Dark_Knight_89 3 күн бұрын
That’s a fair question! While it’s true that apps like Bevel and Athlytic don’t collect their own measurements, their value lies in how they process and present the Apple Watch’s raw data. The Apple Watch collects some of the most accurate health and fitness data among wearables, but its native Health and Fitness apps can feel overwhelming or lack actionable insights. Apps like Bevel bridge that gap by transforming raw metrics (like HRV, strain, and recovery) into meaningful trends, actionable advice, and clearer visualizations. For example, Bevel doesn’t just pull HRV or sleep data-it combines it into easy-to-digest recovery scores and actionable recommendations, which can help users make informed decisions about training and recovery. It’s not about creating new data but about making the existing data more accessible and useful. I think showcasing how these apps enhance the Apple Watch’s capabilities would resonate with people who feel overwhelmed by raw numbers but still want the accuracy the Watch offers.
@Snowmans.Cradle

@@Dark_Knight_89 The value of Rob's reviews is that not everyone is good at making correlations. But I don't understand what the difficulty is in simply checking the app yourself, especially since they offer a trial and the monthly subscription costs almost nothing. Are people really so helpless that they can't do it on their own without a babysitter?
@Dark_Knight_89
@Dark_Knight_89 3 күн бұрын
That’s an interesting perspective, and I appreciate the discussion! While it’s true that people can try these apps on their own, not everyone has the time or technical knowledge to explore all the features or understand how to interpret the data meaningfully, even with a trial. Rob’s reviews (or reviews in general) add value because they provide context, guidance, and real-world use cases, which can save users time and help them decide if an app is worth their time or investment. Also, it’s not about people being ‘helpless’-it’s about making informed choices. Many users appreciate seeing how someone else has applied the tools and features before committing, especially since fitness and recovery tracking can feel overwhelming with all the available options. The goal is to help people feel empowered, not dependent.

I have been using a whoop for about 2 months now and am quite disappointed with the product.Even though the band collects data accurately, the final product is stupid. All activities need to be started and paused manually through the app, auto detect never worked. The strain calculation also seems to be random. Even though I feel extremely well Sometimes Whoop says the opposite. Maybe this will improve over time, but my current impression is not good.

Yeah but you also need a bicep band for it to be even remotely accurate. It really fails as a wrist wearable, and you need to buy the bicep band on your own. The company has TERRIBLE customer service, and very little to no transparency about roadmaps or updates which come few and far between. It's terrible value especially as a subscription. Also keep in mind that the longer you're stuck with a particular version the more you pay for it. People who got the 4.0 on release have paid at least $600 for it and there is zero resale value. I disagree that it's the best all around tracker. Apple Watch + Bevel is the best all around. For its price point, it should be the best or one of the very best, but you can get similarly accurate data from a Fitbit. As you show, whoop for sleep tracking is just barely better than some Chinese brands and below basic Fitbit devices and sleep is what a lot of people are interested in. For the price it's definitely not good enough.

@@Lukas-c4r Actually the most accurate is the apple watch 9/10 if you'd watched his video you'd have seen that. those are $400 and Bevel is $60. Same price as Whoop per year except that you can get an entirely new apple watch every two years for the same price or you can bring down the price a lot more if you choose to continue using it past 2 years which many do. Not to mention you get all the features whoop doesn't have (it a smartwatch), instant data processing that is done locally instead of slow upload to a server, ECG and SPO2, sleep apnea detection, and far more regularly updates and actually accurate data on the wrist. Don't bother mate, it's not even close. Im not interested in wearing a bicep band all day either. I would choose a fitbit before I went back to the wasteful money pit that is Whoop.
