Just got the Light Pedal and it's awesome. You have to know what the knobs do and how to use the different positions of the optical sensors, but once you know what you're doing there are a lot of wonderful traditional and far out experimental reverb sounds! It's a deep pedal. Wish it had 3 or 4 preset slots...

+1 Light Pedal user! Game Changer Audio did amazing job with this device. It is inspirational thing and is not just a spring reverb. Spring delay??? - yes! shimmer - yes! vibrato - yes! tremolo - oooh yes! and you can mix 2 different modes and as it was said here you can mix spring and optical reverb level for every mode... So you have a lot of space to find your unique sound for different purposes. It took me some time to dig in to it because it has a lot of sounds to experiment with in studio. To be honest other devices are just spring reverbs... yes they sound fantastic! Each of them! But as it was mentioned we have amazing Fender blackface/silverface type buid in amp reverbs which sound so georgeus because people hear this sound in a half of the best records in the world. So this is why we like Fender springs so much. Light Pedal gives something more than just spring reverb - a place for a creativity and experiments.

The Anasounds is my absolute favorite. I love the modular design. You can put the pedal where it's comfortable to press with your foot and mount the springs underneath your board, safe from shocks. Or you could put the springs in front of your speaker for other weird sounds. Plus you can use it with different spring tanks. I own the three tanks they offer and the tank switcher. It always gets me into a creative mood. The shortest spring tank into a driven Orange Tiny Terror is fun. What I haven't tried yet is stacking the Anasounds reverb into my Silverface Super Reverb.

Aesthetically, that Ana really shines (no way I’m hiding the tank if that’s on my board). And the cool factor of the Light Pedal is undeniable. Tone is the function, but form is important too-it’s abundantly clear to me that when it comes to things guitar, I hear with my eyes.

Fun exploration today guys! I've always prefered a subtle amount of the classic black panel combo of reverb & tremolo. I've used a Mr Black Deluxe Deluxe Plus for years, and the White Whale ticked all the tone boxes for me today. But I think I'd rather just play a black panel amp. So that's where my fun tokens are going in 2023. Happy New Gear to everyone!

😂 I love that the conclusion is « maybe I don’t want spring reverb in my new amp ». LOVED the Two Rock, WOW! I’m jealous. Happy to see TPS exploring using a dirty amp more. When I first heard of a dry/wet rig my first taught was dry = dirty amp and wet = pedal amp. I’m personally really happy with that set-up. The Light Pedal really spoke to me, the spring reverb was good enough but like usual GameChanger Audio added extra things to the pedal, so much fun for creativity. GREAT show!

Happy New Year chaps. I was just thinking back to 2020 today, when we began the New Year not knowing what was about to happen. The pandemic had hit us by the start of March and I was living on my own, miles from family and with all my freelance work cancelled due to the situation... I began watching TPS as a way of taking my mind away from what was happening. Every night I would watch an episode on the ipad before going to sleep. You'll never know how helpful that was to me when the world was falling apart. Genuinely, just having an hour listening to you guys banter about pedals, tones and guitars was priceless. I've been a regular viewer ever since, both because I'm a guitar fan and also because of the connection I built with your show that year. Now in 2023, it all seems so long ago. But, in the spirit of new beginnings and nostalgia, I just wanted to say thanks. Unknowingly, you were part of the reason I made it through. Have a wonderful year and keep up the great content. Best wishes.

I had a Light Pedal for a few months and loved it, but was frustrated by the inability to save presets and wound up selling it. I was forever tweaking between my favourite sounds, which is fine - there are so many great sounds in it - but a digital interface to enable saved settings would make it much more versatile for gigging and jamming. If they would release a deluxe version with an interface that allows saved presets I’d buy it without hesitation.

Awesome show guys!! I've been on a spring quest for years- ever since I got a hand-wired fender black-panel style amp. The amp is killer- and is 22w, so like a deluxe- but without reverb! (or trem- so sort of like a bassman). While I love the amp for that Fender sound, I really LOVE Fender reverb. My ideal might be the deluxe verb, but the super is of course fantastic. So, I;ve been searching for years to find a pedal that would give that same sense of depth and space. No luck! I even bought a 63 Spring tank (90s reissue) - but it's a whole different deal. The tank, which runs into the amp after the pedal board, is way to much. It;s awesome for that drippy surf sound, but it's too bright, too lively, too much for just an always on verb. It's cool, but it's not what I want. And if you hit it with a pedal (esp. fuzz) it's just out of control- very cool sound- if that's what you want- but too much for me most of the time. Currently I'm using a UAD Golden, and let me say- it's the closest thing to an amp reverb I've used. But, of course the quest continues right- and it would be awesome to have one of these real spring pedals. I have been eying the Anasound for awhile- thanks to you guys- but I have to say that in this video the Surfy Bear just WINS! It sounds huge and more like the amp verb than anything I've heard- at least on playback. Too bad it's so big- but maybe it just has to be to sound right? Anyway- thanks guys!!!

They all sounded great to me ( with KZbin going through my home old school hifi ) the white whale would be the one I’d buy out of the bunch ( for me the best compromise of tone, format, and that cool trem too) all academic tho as thanks to you my journey over the last couple of years has led me to a dual mono rig with a Blues Deluxe reissue, paired with the Victory V140D, which allows me to set the Fender to its classic reverb tone , and have the glorious V140 reverb set to full snuggly duvet, and use the foot switch to kill it when the gain is up ( achieving the two reverb settings Dan mentions which I agree is required for a varied gig ) Many thanks for helping me to get here, much love & Happy & Positive new year👍🎸😀

Another great video! If memory serves, back in the day, Robben Ford used to run his 2290 delay in the Dumbleator loop and then split from there into a Super or Twin Reverb amp. So, he'd get delay from the TC 2290 in the Dumble effects loop, but the reverb from the Fender amp. Mick--I think you need to do a vlog trying this approach!

As a Reverb junkie, this has to be one of my favorite shows! I own 2 Surfybears, the C.M. Headroom and a tube reverb unit. So let's go. Quite an interesting niche in this episode and what's bizarre is you can make a case for each one. Going off the TS1 loop thing (as that was the point) when Mick turned them down as Dan played I legitimately thought they were off, that's how little verb was imparted. As that's sort of where Mick would set them for that amp I think he came to the right conclusion; the TS1 doesn't need a spring. As for pedals themselves the Light Pedal would be for me the most inspiring but only because it makes weird noises, I would never use it as just a spring. I like the Anasounds different tank size thing they do but, I'd just try them as tanks to swap with an amp with a tank as opposed to the fiddly pedal setup. White Whale would draw me most as a "Fender-izer" for any straight ahead amp. Not because of the reverb, but the tremolo; why would you not also have tremolo?! Headroom is unique sounding, Surfybear most traditional (and best at it). No wrong choices here.

Gee, I like all these real spring pedals for their various strengths. The Surfy Bear seems most like a standard Accutronics tank in a Fender amp but with more control, the Headroom is nice and drippy, the White Whale is pretty smooth and has a great tremolo, The Anasounds is really versatile with its EQ, and the Light Pedal is really experimental. I have a Light Pedal and really like blending the spring and optical together, then fine-tuning the sound with the Drive, Tone and Gate controls. It does kind of like to take over the guitar sound and draw attention to itself, which is both a strength and weakness, but I've ended up using it on several tracks already, even running drum tracks through it once for certain parts of a song.

Hi D&M. All of the pedals had something different to offer. For me the Surfy Bear was the 'purest', but man, it's a big pedal!. I thought that the Light pedal had the widest range of sounds and the Anasounds had the most 'character'. For me though, the sound of the day was Dan's tele into the TS1 with some gain when you first turned on the Headroom. That amp is really something Special. Mick's LP sounded so thick!

Reverb is that one thing I just can’t replace my old fender spring tank. In the days of modelers for me fuzz and reverbs are the two things I have not gone in the digital path for .

As someone who also doesn’t like the sound and feel of buffers, I’ve found via many tests that Best Tronics CA-0446 cable sounds and feels best when using pedals in the loop as well as from pedal board to front of amp. It’s very low capacitance and is also a quite thick (24 gage) conductor. I think it’s this combination that makes it work well. To Mick’s and Dan’s points, it’s seemingly impossible to not affect the sound at all when driving an effects loop, but this cable will help, and possibly help you to remove buffers. Another option which I prefer when using amp distortion, is to use a line out box such as the Bray LO-1, which connects to the main amp’s speaker out which you then send to delay/reverb (preferably close to full wet mix) and then to a wet amp (even a much smaller amp can work well).

Sorry, correction: CA-0446 is 20 gage (not 24 gage, as I mis-typed, which is actually quite thin for a long cable!)

Short cables in the effects loop is the answer too, I think. But that doesn’t mean you have to leave it on all the time. Leave the reverb pedal at the amp, but get one that has a remote switch connection so you can still turn it on and off from your board. Then the audio doesn’t have to travel all the way to your board and back. Many spring reverb pedals have the remote switch capability.

Argh. I fear this makes much sense. We’re galloping towards a little rack back at the amp and a G3 extension kit. Arrrrghhhhh!

With every week that goes by, I love that TS1 more and more. It’s exceptional. Love my CLRS but man, the grit on that TS1….Can’t wait to see a comparison sometime. Both fantabulous of course. Just wish I could buy talent. Maybe Simon Jarrett can do a preamp for that (I say that as a huuuuuge fan of his work)

I haven’t tried all those, but since I bought the CTC WW I’ve stopped looking for other external spring reverbs. Love it. An it has a great classic amp style tremolo, plus a boost. What’s not to love with that?

I'm a reverb junkie too, can't play without it! Surfy bear has the classic blackface sound, but for me the gamechanger light pedal had a wonderful full sound.....plus all the cool effected tones. Might have to pick one up although I still love my neunaber Stereo Wet. BTW the TS-1 sounds incredible, and I agree with Mick about a plate reverb which is what Robben runs most of the time these days.

Cheers guys. They all sounded good to me though the Gamechanger Light clearly has a lot more going on than the others, I shall have to investigate, it sounds like my kind of weird. The latest discovery in my personal journey is: if I smile while playing I have better overall tone and sustain. I'm rationalising this as: if I anticipate something good happening maybe it's more likely to. Dunno really. Liking the results though. Happy New Year. :)

Hi....Happy New Year. Liked the episode. I have a reverb episode request: - Strymon recently updated their BlueSky digital reverb pedal (to "version 2"). - Both the new Bluesky V2 & the BigSky have their versions of Spring Reverb as well as other reverb types. - Would love to see these 2 pedals compared; hear about their use cases (ex: is Blue Sky more intuitive in live situations) - and hear from you how their algorithms compare to the above "real" versions. Hope it was ok to make the above request on this thread. :)

I know it’s not what you were doing- but on a rewatch I’d have loved to have heard one great digital emulation thrown in there. just to compare a bit- maybe a SA Collider or something. Loved to have heard if the recorded difference is very obvious.

So I think it sounds like the optical light reverb is the overwhelming favorite? It has a real darkness and lushness that is pretty sweet sounding. I'm surprised how much I like the simple spring reverb sound over the surfy bear

Now the program that will allow me to ask: What happens if I put 3 spring tanks in series and feedback the output with the input (eg., creating a delay effect but with springs instead of bucket brigade devices)? Will the number of springs in each tank make some difference? Is this the secret of Vincent Bell's watery sound (as in Airport 70 love theme)? I really believe so. This is one Holy Grail and this is for your skills as a "discrete effect" maker, Dan . Best wishes for the New year and hoping for lot more of excellent programs. Schuck, Jr.

Nice one. Always thought about getting the Ana Sounds since it takes up less real estate. Hope you guys cover digital spring reverbs (if you haven't already). I have a True Spring reverb pedal and have been pleased with it, but I'm curious about the competition, if anything tops it without being bigger in size. Cheers boys, happy new year!

@@everynotecountsofficial I was being a little facetious. I’ve actually been curious about those amps. I’ve been looking for some English flavor amps for quite some time. I’ve gone through an AC-15, an Orange rocker 15 and rockerverb 30 trying to find something I like. I ended up trading the rockerverb for a vibrolux, I love fender amps, but now that’s all I have are fenders, lol. The Origin line seems like it might be an option.

@@smelltheglove2038 I like it a lot. It’s supposed to be kind of a plexi amp on a budget. I mostly played my Fender Blues Jr, then got Fender’s Bassbreaker, which kind of blurs the line between Fender and Marshall. It made me “Marshall curious,” and I’m very happy that I explored the Origin series.
