@CPT. PRICELESS They aren't lying. There just isn't a standardized method on how they test the product to put the numbers on their datasheets. You running some software off your computer that tells you a number is likely not what they do to determine a number. They are sending a set amount of data at known clock cycles and based upon what they deem is the inherent capacitance and impedance of the traces they've laid out, they will determine the highest threshold of data going in without corrupted bits. The test set up will have grounding and EMI shielding you aren't going to find on somebody's typical product. And they make calculations to skew the number higher because cable length and any additional copper in their testing introduces signal insertion losses as well as inherent thermal noise by the equipment itself used to make the measurements and inject the data. This is why you will never reach these theoretical speeds.

I would buy the Firecuda 530 over the others because it is a lot more significant, the time saved on in game loading times than for the game to start. I wouldn't even do tests for how long it takes for the game to start, since you only do that once vs 50 loading screens when playing the game. Just an idea for anyone deciding between these options.
@CompleteGeekTV2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s fair. We did both only to check results. We weren’t sure what the results were going to be on either test. We also wish we could have shown more games but it was already very involved and time consuming. I think your point about loading saved data vs start game is a good one. I guess depending on how often someone is doing it. Someone may just start a game and load their saved game and that’s it for the day. Regardless, these are all good and very close overall. I (Adam) personally bought the Firecuda for myself. Thanks for the comment and bring this point up because we agree that it’s something to think about and consider. The Problem With the Samsung 980 Pro, is it uses a new NAND type. Which has a LOT lower TBW (Terabytes Written) Rating. TBW rating is how much data can be written on the SSD before it needs to be replaced. Which is VERY important for console gaming. The Samsung's TBW rating is 1200TB, while the Firecuda's is 2550TB. @rahulrastogi64122 жыл бұрын
@@icebaby271 when I inserted the ext SSD, the primary installation drive changed to ext SSD. Since then I have left it that way. About the longevity I would suggest don't worry at all. These SSDs are built to last. For example I bought the Samsung 850 Evo back in 2014 and its bundled software Samsung Magician shows that it has still 70% of the life left. Maybe it will even out live me hahaha... So don't worry about wear and tear at all. Running video rendering/editing takes a toll on SSDs lifespan but u wont be doing that on a PS. So u r fine! Read and write speeds are not about loading a game. It's about reading and writing. Moving the file from one place to another. Like ssd to internal, or disk to ssd
@CompleteGeekTV2 жыл бұрын
That is something we were originally going to add but worried the results could be completely skewed by the internet speed and whether it was strong or running the same for each test. If we tested how long it took to install a game from disc then that would also be an inaccurate test as well since Blu-Ray discs as well as blu-ray drives have a limit on how fast they can transfer data from them so it would not be testing the SSD speed at all but just moving at the speed of the disc drive. We did do one test that was not included in the video which we originally thought might make for a good comparison. We tested how fast a full game went from SSD to internal storage and back to SSD. The problem is that we found out while performing this test that Sony limits the read and write speed on the internal drive while transferring (this was found to be the case on other channels and sites we checked as well) so it would be the same time for each drive since the bottleneck happens at the internal drive and not the added SSD. So once again these tests were chosen because only the new SSD drive is a factor when performing these tests and wanted to give and accurate showing of which drives perform better in different areas of gameplay. Thanks for checking out the video!

No we did not update the Samsung. We literally opened it out of the box and put it in the PlayStation. Som have even said the Samsung doesn’t work unless you update it first. But ours worked fine and we just plugged it right in. I’m not sure how much it really matters since when you put a new drive in the PlayStation it asks you to format for ps5 use anyway which would delete everything off the drive. I don’t remember the exact speed that the PS5 claimed when putting the Samsung in but I do know that it was over 6000MB/s almost all them claimed a similar speed except the Corsair which was reading around 5000

I'm nitpicky in choosing parts, and I do tend to read into specs, prices and performance. Thanks again to you both! Your perspective was extremely helpful!

I know I’m late to the party and just recently got a PS5. Finally pulled the plug and decided to buy a 4TB Corsair SSD before seeing this…. I wanted to go for a bigger space so I can store more games. I know it came last place on this test, hopefully it’ll still be good and I’ll be satisfied with it!

I’m sure you will be! I (Jordan) ended up keeping the Corsair in my own PS5 after this video and I have been happy with it! Most of the tests we had to slow down frame by frame to even se which drive won. Really all of them are great!

That’s why I’m getting the corsair. 4 TB and a good price on Amazon at the moment. It will be replacing my 1TB FireCuda. Not based on performance, but based on size for long-term storage.

Great comparison vid guys! Just subscribed and have been checking out your vids. Great channel, so thanks for adding more excellent content. Especially for us old geeks (52)! :) As for these M.2 drives, I've always been a fan of the WD Black series HDD's and use them in my gaming/media PC. I discovered these little badasses about a year ago and picked up a 1T SN850 to use as a root drive, which I also created a partition to store games on and have been absolutely amazed at how fast these little guys are. I also recently picked up a 2T SN850X to slide into the secondary slot on my mobo for additional storage because the Black Friday deals were so amazing for these and was able to pick it up for $179.99, which was just ridiculous for what you get. BTW, the 1T used for my root drive tested out at 7200mb/s(Read) - 6300mb/s(Write), but with the 2T running on the secondary slot, it's only getting 6300/Read - 6100/Write. I just installed this one, so after seeing these results I need to go into my bios to check the settings on it and see if I might be able to squeeze a little more out of it. Regardless, they're still giving me amazing speeds that I never had with standard SSD's, and even more so than with traditional HDD's, so I'm quite happy with them. I'll update if there's and change with the settings in my bios, but in the meantime, y'all keep doin whatcha do, and thanks again! \m/ (>_

@@CompleteGeekTV The 980 and 990 Pro family NVMe drives may have a faulty firmware turning the drive into an irreversible read-only mode Affected models; Samsung 980 PRO S5GXNF0R / S5GXNF0T / S5GXNG0N / S5GYNX0R / S69ENF0R / S69ENG0R / S6B0NG0R / 3B2QGXA7 Samsung 990 PRO 0B2QJXD7 ps. My 980 Pro 2TB was running with one of the affected (3B2QGXA7) firmwares. Luckily I have a PC with M.2 slot. I wonder how people who do not have a desktop PC will sort this because the firmware can only be flashed via Samsung Magician (Windows).
@forkless Жыл бұрын
Not even to get the most out of it, there are models that have been shipped with a buggy firmware that will cause bad blocks on the drive and after it hits a certain SMART counter threshold it will go into read-only mode -- no recovering from it either unless you flash the firmware in time to prevent the issue in the first place.

So what we did was install each drive into a ps5 and do a fresh install of the game for each drive so that each time it was fresh brand new loading of the game as if the first time the system played it. We recorded the hdmi output to an Atomos Ninja V recorder (typically used on movie sets for accurate time coding and high quality external recording of hdr footage) We did that separately for each drive and then matched the footage in Davinci resolve and fined tuned it to waveform so that all four drive recordings were starting at the exact same moment of when the button was pressed. We felt this was the best and most accurate way since trying to time button presses in real time would be very difficult. Doing it this way ensured that the recording for each drive was perfectly synced with the other and nothing was left to chance or human error.

Is there a video comparing these ssds to ps5's stock ssd?
@theroguerider2 жыл бұрын
Good video, but you didn’t show install speeds? Maybe download speeds provided you throttle your internet to a consistent speed. Also, 4th place is always 4th place regardless of a tie for 2nd. I’m a fan of the Samsung but I think the Firecuda is most important as in-game loading is far more important.
@CompleteGeekTV2 жыл бұрын
So once again these tests were chosen because only the new SSD drive is a factor when performing these tests and wanted to give an accurate showing of which drives perform better in different areas of gameplay. Thanks for checking out the video! And I agree with in game loading being most important as well!
@theroguerider2 жыл бұрын
@@CompleteGeekTV I hope it didn’t come across as you didn’t do a good job, as EVERYONE seems to be coming up with similar results. My biggest question to friends who’re even more tech savvy than myself is how that Seagate was slowest once then the fastest. Definitely left me scratching my head as to how large a swing in speeds that was.

@msprecher65072 жыл бұрын
I'd say that "loading" a game isn't that important. The actual "in-game" loading is more important.
@CompleteGeekTV2 жыл бұрын
I would agree! They were all so close in loading the games anyway that it really isn’t a big enough difference. The firecuda definitely seemed to have the edge in our in-game test. That why we wanted to do this video so everyone can decide for themselves what benefits them most. After this video was finished Adam kept the Firecuda to put in his PS5 and I (Jordan) kept the Corsair. Even though the Corsair was technically last place I felt they were all so close in reality that it will be a great experience with any of them. We gave the others away.

Hi bros i am thinking to buy this nvme ssd for my pc. Asus prime z690 motherboard. Which has 4 m.2 slots 3 of them is with heat sink on the motherboard and one is without heatsink. I am think to use this nvme on the m.2 slot without heat sink. My question is the m.2 slot which is without heat is connected to chipset not the cpu Will it effect the performance of mp600 pro lxp 1tb connected to chipset slot. Also have a option to buy the Mp600 pro xt nvme ssd 1tb. Which is also with larger heatsink. Thank u
@CompleteGeekTV2 жыл бұрын
The m.2 slot above the gpu slot is the only one that connects to the cpu. The rest connect to the z690 chip. All m.2 slots support pcie 4.0 x4. There will be a small amount of overhead putting a drive behind an extra chip like the chipset instead of directly connecting to the cpu, but it should be pretty negligible in this case. The z690 has a 4.0 x8 connection to the processor, so it should be able to fully support 4.0 x4 nvme ssd.

From what I understand, the SSD will always be faster directly on the motherboard.

@@CompleteGeekTV You're welcome. If you can help me with a question that would be great. I've seen that the firmware of the Samsung needs to be updated before plugging it into the PS5. I have a PC which already has 1 SSD but i am not sure if you can plug a secondary SSD. My uncle told me there is a kind of external hard drive box in which you can insert the SSD and then you plug the box via USB to a computer or laptop. Do you knowif that box thing will help to update the firmware of the Samsung 980 Pro? The 1 TB is currently on a good sale on Amazon and i am interested to buy it. I just need some more information on the update firmware subject. Thanks for helping out!
