The Devs have said that they intend to make the map a lot bigger, "at least 50% bigger", so there may be some more random spawn locations then.

I'd like to see you try starting in that cool overlook area, it will be a challenge getting heaters going since it's a long hike to the nearest iridium cave. I started a game in the Grand Rift and it was pretty easy to get to the lakes stage but then it got to be a pain constantly going out of the canyon to get resources. Even with the jet pack having your base on the edge of the map gets annoying, but the view overlooking that "green valley" area might be worth it. One T3 tree spreader down there makes the entire valley look really nice.

That was very informative. I thought it would just be random between the three. I tried grand rift after playing awhile and I had never been in it so I was totally lost. I figured out a good way to leave bread crumps. Tier one wind turbines. There's always iron around so I'd just plunk down a wind turbine within sight of another to get back. And I had lots of initial power. In my mind start in the central location and walk to your favorite base location.

I've had a random location inside the iridium cavern which makes it slightly better than standard as you don't have to account for water levels and flat ground for building is just outside. When picking a location it does help to consider where space rocks will be falling so in and around canyons where the resources get "lost" without a lot of vertical building aren't as practical.

I find the best dtart to be the standard, and the best place for a base to be next to the lake that forms in the starting area. You have the iridium mine pretty close, and also the aluminum and sulfur areas fairly close too. When you later get better jetpacks, traveling to the uranium, osmium and super alloy isn't so cumbersome either.

I think you're probably right about the 'normal' location being generally best because it's centrally located. (two wrecks nearby, everything within reasonable distance). The last location you found was good - like you said, because we know what the game does to it. I'm fond of the ravine myself because I think it looks nice when it starts to get water and greenery. I think building in the ravine on the cliffs would be cool. The biggest issue with a lot of the areas that are not the starting location is deep water for algae generators - considering how valuable algae is later on... The ravine has an underwater osmium cave you can use, but the other ones will have you running.

enjoying your run on this game have you already figured out the fusion cell, if not you place it in the generator on the crashed ships and more hatches open up for more loot. also after insects is fish.

Canyon - Unsure how the structure of a base will clip or line up in the canyon walls but having a hanging base with glass floors may be neat. but we need a elevator in the game.

above the great rift is flat terrain, the iridium cave is minable from up there, sulfur is available by the ring along the nearby rock rimmed gorge (which becomes a pond, perfect for algae and fertilizer production), uranium is a mere hop skip and a jump down a cliff (but also minable from above the cave), a bit further to aluminum or osmium, the only distance is the superalloy, but by the time you really need a lot of it, its raining from the sky. additionally meteors tend to take a long time to reach the map edge by the ring gate, and its fun watching them bullseye through that ring.

The most important thing in the long run of the game is being close to the Iridium as you need it for almost everything and it's vital to launching rockets. Sulfur is also quite important for most of the oxygen/biomass stuff, so the 'normal' location is by far the best area to build in. The sandfalls isn't 2 bad either for early and late game as it's close to the alloy/iridium/sulfur, it's starting to become a bit of a trek to the aluminium which can potentially suck mid-game, you have some in the iridium cave but not really enough, and the other good sources are the aluminium area, maze and far osmium cave. As a start you can do pretty well anywhere.

2:30 i love the grand rift start. I build my base up that banking hill so it's multi-level following the hill. Ladders and doors all over. Ladders and flood lights on the hills. There is also an iridium cave right at the start. However! It has a major problem, if I build a launch pad around here, I can't see where the meteors land. They even seem to land out of bounds on the cliffs. Getting 3 uranium instead of 20 from your first rocket is devastating. This seems to be the case for all starts except standard when building rockets on the large flat.

Iridium cave would be the best since it's pretty central and has quick access to all the wrecks. You don't have to build there but as a starting area it's solid.

A build on the cliffs of the grand rift I would definitely watch. That’d be fun, might try a hardcore start there myself. (Edit). I take that back, I’d like to see the last spot that overlooks the great view, but regardless what you choose I’d love to see hardcore. If you make a new game and choose the sandfalls area just know it's going to be insanely hard to get iridium since z1 forgot to mention this but there's an entrance to the iridium cave that is iced over only way to get through is to melt it but you need that iridium to get any kind of heating so you'd have to travel out by taking the far left exit of the sandfalls walking a good distance around the edges than you'll be back in the iridium cave so you'll need a few outposts as well now there is an iridium cave but it's much further away so I don't think I'll be picking the sandfalls for a starter base plus once you get a water filter or algae gen umm where will you put them haha

I was going to say the same, he forgot that many of those caves are blocked by ice at the start, so you have to think about what is available for building heaters. Sandfalls is the worst pickable spot for getting iridium early in the game.

You can also walk up to the vines that grow in the grand rift and interact to climb it I built a dome up there.

the spawn at 9:30 is the spawn im useing for my current playthrough i like it just was annoying early on with haveing to run over the tha aluminum area to progress but still a great spot none the less and much more manageable once you get the jetpack

I would take that location by the Big Wreck. It has the most loot of all the wrecks and will be a great jump off point to build at the Overlook Point. Also, the Tier 4 Drills look really Cool in the Dunes!

I started in in the sand falls. Building looks nice with the falls in the background but you run out of resources really early before ore extractors and you end up having to go further afield to get things like titanium. But once you have the extractors it’s a nice spot

I think the best Spawn is beside the aluminum area because you have a golden chest right away and get what's inside and and some other resources.

For me one of the spawns was where we have all the pillars I didn’t have the canyon one weird I also never had super alloy meteor showers just osmium maybe it’s random to a point ? Anyways thoroughly enjoying seeing doing the stuff ;)

You can build your base anywhere, so I'm not sure it matters that much where you spawn. The sandfall area is probably the hardest to get out of.

The default starting area is not only central to everything else on the map, it is close to iridium and alumilium, the first two uncommon ores you will need.

i would say standard location close to most early and mid resources close to water since need algae but im gonna build real low so when upgrading i got floating base and basement aquarium like rooms with glass windows everywhere

I like your last one I actually built a secondary base there on the cliffs in front of your capsule but it’s a pain to bring some of the resources but the view is so nice

I generally prefer being close to a fair amount of water - just so that won't have to travel too far to place algae / collect water, algae, etc. and it will also give algae plenty of room to spread out

i like the standard starting location. i actually started with the demo version in prologue, hit 200 KTI and the progress is locked. Just bought the full version last week, and I continued my second demo save, in which i had spawned south of the standard location and had to find my way there. it's hard to describe. it wasn't a cave, but there was a hill with iridium and super alloy in the center, and the air never cleared up.

imho any location could be a good one, if you start building the main base immediately & obey the magic number 25 rule (it is still 25 or more, height coordinates, right?) The dunes one looks amazing, a bit off the center, but still! Also iridium cave... if the game gets more advanced lighting, that could rock

You seemed to have missed getting the south-eastern desert area in your random maps pod-sites, that is a much harder one to start with for a first run though especially as it never gets water that you can use for algae production, but you do have the semi underground planet crafter base there with a lot of resources inside and would be good for starting area for hard game challenge type maps. That and the sand wall super alloy / sulfur area I believe are done as harder mode challenge area's as they don't get any direct water buildup. The grand canyon has both osmium and iridium caves although the osmium one floods, once you are up to the trees unlock part there are climbable vines which makes it a lot more friendly for some interesting cliff builds. The Iridium cave one looks interesting as well as there really isn't anything stopping you from expanding the base further into and/or outside the caves. And it is for all practical purposes nearly identical to the pod-site in the middle of the dry lake bed basin.

Actually I think the aluminum area is the best start... close enough to make a large base on the flat plain of the standard location, but with this you have a free oxygen refill spot that won't end up underwater.

While the standard location is "the best" one to start with in general due to how central it is with regards to mineable resources and its access to deep enough water my next save will start in the grand rift and I'll most likely build my base up by the crashed space station. Sure I'll have a long way to go for some resources -especially sulfur and super alloy- but I think the view it can get over the grand first once some vegetation comes in will make up for it.

I build bases at every major crash site... regardless of *"Starting Location"* . I build strategic O2 stations (1 -2 compartments) all over the place. So I could say start in the rock spires but build your base near the battleship crash at the oasis. So not sure what your vid title means. I take it back, *not* the Rock Spires, There's a nearby Iridium cave, 3 very close loot chests and a chip chest, a close golden chest and two solar arrays to disassemble. The Rock Spires is a rich starting location.

The default location because of the all the materials extreme hot spots for rare materials and use fusion cores on the little generators.

I don't feel like being far from super alloy is that big of a deal since you can make it, it spawns from asteroids naturally, and by the time you can mine it automatically, you usually have a lot from other methods.

The location of the random spawns looks the same as blue chest locations as far as i can recall, plus when you spawned near the standard location , there was a blue crate at the standard location. I guess you would have to go the the same location in 2 different spawns to find out Does changing the difficulty level give you different spawns?

you can get over any rock or landscape with a jetpack tier 1 even vertical walls

I think the standard location is not that great as it ends in water. We don’t build there, we build up the hill, next to the iridium cave. I believe that long term, the canyon area is’better as it gives us a free oxygen refill place but it has little impact. I would build next to the iridium cave anyway. The main difference between your current base and mine is I built it to go over the water. I also have a tower in the water to test the possibility of an underwater base, with a ladder under to get in (two blocks one over the other with an inside ladder then deconstruct the bottom one)... it is oxygenated and it is fun going out like that (oxygen don’t go down until I get out of the lake) but it is not really usable.

I had a roll of bad luck with random spawns, so much so i thought the feature was broken, 8 times i made a random save and each was in the same spot in the iridium cave. I'm going to have to be more tenacious and keep trying, i would love to see if there are more spots.

Isn't the starting location just a difficulty decision? You aren't going to build your main base at your crash sight. At least I never do. There's also an Iridium cave in the Grand Rift. Don't know if a crash site happens in the NE corner of the "image" map. But I think that would be the most difficult start. Maybe not, too much loot.
