FSM’s advantage is its RSP programme where you can dollar cost average with a minimum of only Rm100 into certain US and HK etfs on autopilot mode at $1/HKD 5 per trade only. So it’s like buying fractional shares of etfs. (Hongkong etfs are expensive due to the minimum number of shares per lot, RSP solves this problem). Autopilot investing removes emotions.

Well the only problem that I'm facing is that local banks in Malaysia don't like brokers that aren't licensed with Malaysia. Hence money going in and out is going to be hard

The main issue of ibkr is, if you pass away, your beneficiaries will be tax 40-50% inheritance tax due to ibkr is US entity.

Hmm that is incorrect, the taxation applies on the domicile of the asset, not the domicile of the brokerage entity

Always better to do it lump sum! But in rakuten trade’s case, there is no absolute fee, only % spread which is the same even if you convert many times, so no difference here

as we know our Security commision like to put those regulated like IBKR , TD amerietrade as investor alert list as they dont have office in malaysia. If malaysian citizen trade using IBKR platform, will we actually subject to be arrested even if we only trade our own money ? I know thaht IBKR is in singapore, so does that mean for malaysian account in ibkr will be regulated in singpore?

IBKR was never in the investor alert list unlike TD Ameritrade, and should never be in there because Rakuten Trade (licensed in Malaysia) is technically using IBKR's service as a white label. No such thing as being arrested, it just means the local SC Malaysia will not be responsible incase anything happens to our funds. Malaysians will actually be automatically parked under IBKR US. Only Singaporeans will be parked under IBKR SG due to some regulatory requirement by MAS.

As for depositing money, if I were to go through the wise route for IBKR from malaysia bank to wise then to IBKR vs fpx for Rakuten would Rakuten be cheaper even with the 0.55% spread vs all the transaction cost from wise plus 0.1% spread? 3. From the brokerage comparison, as I saw for ibkr it is 1% of trade value right with a minimum of 0.35 usd per trade. Does that mean trades above 35usd will cost more than 0.35 usd per trade? Or is it fixed at 0.35usd per trade? 4. And for Rakuten is the 0.1% of trading value (min 1.88 usd) while ibkr is 1% of trading value?

Hi Jia Jun 1. Yes, only US market 2. Marginal difference if you ask me, if you can deposit more than IBKR funding method would be significantly cheaper, if smaller amount then Rakuten cheaper, but not a deal breaker imo 3. that 1% of trade value is maximum; rarely you will hit that unless you trade few hundred thousands USD at one trade, otherwise usually it will just be 0.35/trade (tiered).
