Love Love my GX7. It's my street shooter. And now mated with my Voigtlander 25 0.95 I am so so happy. It's also a body I use when shooting with legacy glass. This was great! Entertaining and informative! I had the GX7 - finally realized I wasn't using it and moved onto the GX9. But when I had it, while it had its limitations, the GX7 was a great little all rounder for many different situations.
@martingreenberg8703 ай бұрын
The GX7 is a very good choice for street, travel or EDC. Just as you went a model or two older the camera got cheaper. Buy a newer model and the features improve as well as they get more expensive. I started my GX journey with the 85. A lovely camera. As others have pointed out, the video improved. So did the IBIS. The only major flaw with the GX body line is the lack of microphone jac. Bought the GX9 and incremental improvements. A baby G9. Love both the GX85/9. The L monochrome and L monochrome D are my favorite B&W jpeg settings. I love the exposure compensation dial on the top plate on the GX9. Want to go cheaper? Yes, the GX7 is a winner. I don’t think this line of bodies sold very well. The GX line has been discontinued. Recently these bodies have become more expensive and harder to find. The GX85 sells for ~$450 and the GX9 for ~$500. I love these cameras so much I just bought back ups for both. That is how much I love these cameras. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Superb video, you have skills. This is my favourite camera of all time, and when it launched it was the first time a bunch of key features had arrived in a compact Lumix body. The sensor was great, the front and rear dials were a significant upgrade over its predecessors, and the button layout was just right. And the grip! I think this is the most comfortable compact camera in the entire M43 line up. It's the reason I kept the 7 after buying (and then rejecting) the GX85 a few years ago. Pictures in good light were very similar, but the handling is much better on the 7. Mine is quite worn now, having been on lots of long distance off road cycling adventures with me. I'm tempted to get a spare. If the GX9 had the 7's grip I'd get one of those, but I doubt we'll see that return...
@weisserth2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend the GX85 now. Comparably cheap, addresses most of the caveats you mentioned. Video is simply breathtaking on the GX85.

Hi Boris - I can't believe I stumbled across a video that sums up my current sentiments exactly about trying to find an affordable(cheap) second hand micro 4/3 camera on a budget for video - I'm not after 4k or the latest features but with a tight budget I'm finding these Lumix and Olympus 4/3 micros really hold their value. I definitely will check out the specs on the G7. But the most important part of any camera is the nut behind the camera - great video cheers
@douglydiate75753 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head with this video. Lumix make so many good cameras that are suited to street and you get so much more bang for your buck with their cameras. I've just bought the G80 which is weather sealed and has 5 axis IBIS and cannot wait for lockdown to end and get on the streets with it. I ditched full frame 2 years ago for MFTs and do not regret it in the slightest. Good video.

Good video. The GX7 was my second MFT camera, and I think it's an excellent camera for still photography. It has the best ergonomics of any of the GX series. My only disappointment is mine always had a slight lag between hitting a control and seeing that parameter highlighted on the LCD ready to change. I love tilting LCDs for street photography because they are much more discreet that an LCD hanging off the side of the camera.

I LOVE everything about this video. You hit all the right and salient points. Not to mention your street and environmental photographer is on point. I'm a Fujifilm shooter, I used to be a Panasonic LUMIX shooter before moving over to Fujifilm. Within the past month I've sold ALL of my Fujifilm professional gear, the X-H1 and X-E3, yes I consider that a great professional B camera and moved back to MFT. However, this time I moved to Olympus. The feature set on the O-MD E-M10 and E-M5 Mark II's make for the best lightweight kit anyone could have. I still own a Fujifilm camera for street photographer and the one I went with was the X-E2s which has been a delight to shoot with. The bottom line, the latest and greatest is not always the best to have. It's about having a kit that gets the job you're doing done. My current kit all cameras combined weighs 1/2 what my previous kit ways and the quality of the images are just as good if not better. Because now I don't rely on gear to get the job done. I rely on my eye, composition, and having a far better understanding of photography than what I had 7 years ago when I started down this rabbit hole. The GX7 is a fantastic camera and the GX9 is even better and 1/2 the cost of the Olympus Pen F.
@boristakovski3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching the video, I'm really happy that you enjoyed it. I agree with you wholeheartedly that it's much better to focus on improving your skills and using gear that works best for you rather than what is the latest most popular release or what has the most megapixels.

I have GX85 (older brother) and the tilt screen can be used the way you look down into a dual lens reflex meaning you can take shots without anyone realising you are looking at them. Re: the app, while there may be lag, it is perfect for simple framing when you want to check your composition before shooting.
@valala29872 ай бұрын
I'm so happy i found this channel. I'm thinking about buying my first camera but I can't decide between the gx7 and the sony a6000. Both cameras are around the same price on ebay. I love the features that the gx7 has but the a6000 has a bigger sensor with a higher resolution (16 vs 24 megapixel). I plan on using this camera mainly for nature and architecture photography which means they should be good in low light situation. I know that sensor size should not matter for a beginner but I do plan on printing the pictures.
@boristakovski2 ай бұрын
I think you should probably go with the a6000 as it is much better in low light and you'll likely want to use wider lenses to shoot architecture and getting a very wide field of view on the gx7 can be difficult due to the smaller sensor size.

Love this video! However I ended up buying a used GX80\85 which is basically a GX7mkII as it was more readily available and even sold new still, same price or cheaper and more feature packed; IBIS works in video (4k 30fps btw, 100mbps) and is 5-axis for example. The external monitor also works normally.
@JadeMonkee2 жыл бұрын
It's also smaller! I've been considering swapping my GX7 (now my secondary camera) for a GX80 coz of the better IBIS and smaller size. Pairing it with the 20mm f1.7 is just gorgeous for low light street photography, too.
@TheRoadrunner112 жыл бұрын
@@JadeMonkee @Simon Chester Can confirm that lense and camera combo are just too sexy! Just don't plan on shooting video with that lense. The autofocus performance in video is horrid. Btw I still have it and use it even though I also have a Sony A7III. Something about the small form factor and ergonomics as well as image quality makes it a great shooting experience! And thanks to the IBIS it's quite decent in low light if your subjects aren't moving too much. One thing to note is the built-in flash lost the ability to work as a wireless master for external flashes, in case you used to rely on that for the GX7.
@medes5597 Жыл бұрын
@@JadeMonkeehonestly I miss you the larger size. I adore my GX80 but ergonomically the GX7 just feels nicer in your hand. I'm genuinely kind of gutted they never made a grip for it, just to add some bulk to make it easier to hold Having said that, I have tiny hands, I imagine people with normal hands might find it more comfortable.

I enjoyed your video very much. I’ve got a gx7 and had it for years. The quality of the lenses are important but it’s the utility that I like. Thanks so much for watching the video, I'm really happy you decided to get the Gx7 and I hope it inspires you as much as it has me. I don't know of a specific video that explains the settings on the Gx7 but Lumix cameras released around that time basically all have the same menus and settings, so if you were to look at a video explaining the settings and functions of a Panasonic G7, GH4 or Gx85, you'll find that a lot of it applies to your camera as well. Some of the function buttons may be different and the video setting vary quite a bit from camera to camera, but the basics will largely be the same.

I considered upgrading to an SL3 but at $1000 with a kit lens in 2023 its not happening. Thats about the sasme price as th R10 but I would have to chnge mount sstems eventually and need an adapter for EF seires lenses. Honestly iPhone cameras have gooten so much better and having a video capability that can meet professional levels with ACES and Log makes it a strong contender.
