Thanks for the video! I just ordered show me Elixir strings for myself. I've been using d'addario, but I wanted something that sounded a little brighter so I will try these

Been using stainless on my electric lately. Saving me a lot of money only changing them every few months not weeks.

I can’t stand elixir for some reason. Sounds bit dead to me. I used to like on my Taylor but after buying used Martin with d’addario string, I prefer non coated strings

Dead? Wow. They're like the brightest strings out there IMO. Lol

agreed, they make my hd28 sound like the tin man

Hey Taylor! What guitar pick do you use for strumming here? I recently also put on elixir 12s on my d28. And it sounded a bit too bright. I am thinking abt experimenting with different picks. The tone in the video sounded awesome btw

Thank you. It's a Fender or daddario medium. 🎸🎸

Louis did the same for me also. Lost my bottom end with the 12s. Plus they cost me twice the price of a set of Martins.

@@melodymaker396if you paid even a penny more for D’Addario strings, you got taken, Martin strings are more expensive in every shop I have been in and online as well.

Elixir nanoweb were always my go to strings but having just put them on my martin lxe I kinda find that they are too bright loses a lot of the warmth I was enjoying with the factory Matin strings. II wonder if this is due to the small body size of the little Martin's and wouldn't be an issue with a larger body like a D28?

Try the Daddario XS coated strings, I find they last longer than Elixir and sound better.

Tried them. Not for me.

I swapped away from Elixirs after using them for years. To me the tone on them sounds slightly artificial now compared to the D'Addario XT and Martin Lifespan 2.0. For over 10 years they were my go to. Have you tried coated/treated strings from other brands to compare?
@TaylorSchlupp Жыл бұрын
Yes.. hate them 😆 elixirs are the only ones for me. All of the others feel sticky

Great video! I’ve always used Martin’s medium (13-56) on my D28. Is there going to be a big difference in tone if I switch to an Elixir 80/20 light or extra light?
@vjensen564 ай бұрын
I think so. Going from medium to light gauge is noticeable, and it feels different too. Why not just go down to lights instead of custom light? I’d only use custom light for finger style and heavy bending

If you anyway change your strings every week, there is no reason to use coated strings. In my ears they sound okay, but miss the last mile - all of them. There is some non-neglectable damping by the coating, especially at the higher mids. Non-coated strings are also much cheaper and do not have the issue of micro-plastic pollution.
@TaylorSchlupp Жыл бұрын
Love the sound and feel. I only change every 1-2 weeks in summer when I play 5-6 nights a week.

Elixers suck the tone out of a guitar. Sorry they do….. If you want a treated string that doesn’t sound like a treated string try the Martin 540T Or the String Joy Foxwoods. Both are phos bronze strings but not Coated like the elixers. Last very long. Also you don’t need to leave the oil on the neck for an hour. Few minutes is all you need. Stretch the strings don’t over tune the guitar as that is unneeded tension on the neck. Probably why you issues with buzzing.
