Best Suspension trike you can buy? HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS 20 Review

There are lots of choices when it comes to recumbent trikes. HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS 20 may be the best you can buy in terms of suspension trikes. We look at the features and components of this loaded Scorpion FS 20 with Shimano Steps and DI2 shifting. The trike is a 1 x 11 system that gives a range of gears that can tackle any terrain. I have one of these but with a Rohloff 14 speed hub and a Bafang electric motor. The trike is high quality and is a joy to own and ride, great suspension, handling and stability. It feels very safe, I think I would have to ride it way past my comfort zone for it to tip, that has never been an issue. My wife has an Ice trike Sprint, a great trike but very different to the HPV. Lighter weight, nimble and smaller, also with a Bafang. I found it difficult finding room for accessories and it does not have such a good turning circle as the HPV. I fitted front suspension to it that greatly improved the ride. Both quality trikes, the HPV suits my height and size and my wife looks great on the Ice!

I actually prefer the front leaf springs on my tiflyx more but thats my opinion 😉

The Geometry of the HP Velotechnik Scorpion give it a high likelihood of tipping over on fast turns.. there are better recumbent trikes like the AZUB or the ICE that are more stable..

Due to a Neurological disorder I have stability is a BIG deal, I currently ride a GreenSpeed X7 and it is real stable; however, I see another BIG need in the near future - Hydraulic disc breaks and at least rear suspension . I'm not really all that understanding of the 'Geometry' that make the trike more stable - all I know is that a low center of gravity helps(seat hight) - my older GreenSpeed GT5 had a lower seat than my X7, but it front wheels lean in just a little and this makes for it actually being MORE stable - am missing something? Im looking at a ICE Sprint RS 20??? Any thoughts

@@davidhenry4356 Ackerman steering geometry is the key to stability on corners. This is what cars all have. And the better recumbent trikes also use this. That geometry that gives stability requires that you use the correct size/diameter tires. The angles in the Ackmerman steer are met by the way the trike's level to the ground. I chose the Tektro HD-T525 hydraulic disc on the front tires, this has a single lever that activate both front wheels.. And on the back i added a Tektro hydraulic disc brake to give even more stopping power. So 2 levers operate 3 brakes.

@@rdkuless the HPV does't have Ackerman - in my expenses with riding only a few trikes: the center of gravity, wheel base ..??... the rear frame stiffness and AXLE type does as well I believe

That rear chain looks really low, surely it must hit the ground all the time?

It may appear low but it never hits the ground. 20” trikes all have that same look but still have enough ground clearance.
