This is a quick review on a tabletop wet tile saw by Ryobi.
This saw is great for backsplash projects, bathroom floor or kitchen floor projects and much more! Cuts porcelain, ceramic, stone, glass mosaics and more. Great compact design, super light weight and cuts straight!

Bought this saw in April 2023 for $100 at Home Depot. I made about 20 ceramic tile cuts and it worked great. The only issue was the 12' tile hitting the metal part of the blade guard. Had to constantly bend it slightly to cut tile. Just took it out to do a 2nd DYI job and the drain plug was leaking ,then fixed it with a rubber washer. I put the blade on and it was wobbling and shut it off.I looked at everything closely and noticed the two big holding washers for the blade was warped. I brought it back to HD for a refund. I ordered and received the Porter Cable table top saw due to its 1 HP motor , quality and great reviews. After many uses, it's my prized possession.

Be aware that not all of these saws operate as nicely as the one in the video - I bought one at the HomeDepot and the two halves of the table were not flushed in height - I took it back to HD and before exchanging I opened 4 boxes with an employee before we found one with the table top that was close enough in same height. SO I get the new one home and assemble it but it vibrated horribly at the start then it smoothed out as it ran. Then when I hit off switch it vibrated like crazy as it slowed down. After doing that several times I noticed as the blade slowed down I could see that it was warped. I took the blade off and reinstalled it several times to see if it was user error. Without the blade it was fine. Blade kept wobbling and the machine kept vibrating (maybe spindle is off balance). I've seen the same problem written in the HD website reviews. Many say they solved the issue by replacing the blade...that means another $39+ on a quality blade. So as of 07/17/2021 the price of the machine plus blade will actually be $164+ instead.

Doing a long rip cut is the true telling of any saw and why you have to spend $350 plus if you are into large format tiles (12x24, 18x18, 24x24, etc). There are ways to hack this saw to do large rips. You basically have to bust your carpenter skills and make a support area and extended fence, and also have to realllllly adjust everything to prevent wobble and get straight cuts. Nothing is worse than thinking "oh it's so straight" then RIGHT AT THE END the little bit of wobble breaks the tile at the very end. Haha ya you know what I'm talking about. I'll agree, this little tile saw is great for smaller jobs and especially all that small tile, mosaic stuff. You can really make this saw better by getting some sheet metal and working it around some metal frame mini ibeams and what not, extended fence....but at that point you are basically making a large format saw and spending $ to do it vs buying the correct saw. I've had to hack little saws to do big jobs because I was in a pinch heh.

Hi there, I am installing a glass and stone mosaic backsplash in my kitchen about 28 sq ft worth. Will this ryobi saw cut through the mosaic tile since it has both stone and glass mixed in on the mesh back ie. its not just glass? Do you know which blade I should use to accommodate both types of tile material? Thank you in advance!
@mongjedi244
@mongjedi244 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rusty. I own a remodeling business and use this lightweight Ryobi for backsplashes and small bathrooms all the time. I would purchase a higher end ceramic blade or a middle of the road glass blade. Continuous rim is my preference. The Rigid Premium blade is a nice ceramic blade at $45 and their glass blade is about $30. I've had great results with Quasar, Rigid, MK, Alpha, Husqvarna. Don't buy a cheap blade. I use the 7" Alpha Vetro Glass blade but that's overkill and unnecessary. Glass blades and nicer cermaic blades have higher concentrations of diamond granules that are oriented in a better pattern than cheaper ceramic blades.
@staticclay
@staticclay 7 жыл бұрын
J W Thanks for the detailed reply. Since my mosaic tiles are mixed with glass and stone, will i need to change the blade for each material being cut, so cut glass then change out blade then cut stone and repeat this? Seems like a dumb question I know, I was hoping one blade will cut through both materials since they are glued to mesh backing. I plan on getting a good quality blade for sure. I was just hoping theres a blade that double duty for glass and stone/ceramic type tiles on mesh mosaic.

I have issues with the blade guard on this saw pinching the work on long rips. I find the overall sturdiness and preciseness to be better on the kobalt 7" saw for not too much more money, however I think I'm going to try the porter cable saw you recommended for the fact it has a slide tray.
@mschnepper
@mschnepper 5 жыл бұрын
I borrowed this from my neighbor and am having the same problem as far as the long cuts catching on the back of the blade guard. Since it is a used saw, I thought maybe the blade had worn down and was making cuts that were too thin, resulting in catching on the back of the blade guard. Can I fix this with a slightly thicker blade/cut OR is this just a fault of the saw/it's not good for long rips?
@shoes121255

@@shoes121255 Thanks! I borrowed it from my neighbor to do a small area behind my basement bar (as a trial run to get some experience tiling). The pinching made it near impossible to rip a 12 x 24 tile on the long side. I only need to do a small bathroom next. If I go with large format again, I think I will just rent a better saw for a day (the bathroom is only about 32 square feet).

It simply will take too much time to cut tile for that amount of square footage. I would suggest picking up a 7" Dimondback from Harbor freight or a 7" Ridgid from Home Depot. They are cheap saws, and you can easily re-sell on Craigslist or Facebook after you're finished with your tile project.

+michael jordan you can definitely do more than 100 square feet of tile. We have used this saw for thousand plus square feet of cutting in the last few months and the blade is great still. A larger 10 inch wet saw simply cuts faster if you are installing more than 100 square feet.

I like it, except for the metal guard in the back that isn't quite straight with the blade. It makes it impossible to use the guide because it's not lined up. I can't figure out a reliable way to fix that issue. I end up just using a grease pencil and make a line with a straight edge and then eye the entire cut. I feel like this a fairly large flaw in the design.

I just used a fine tipped sharpie on the tile and followed that line. It does make a wet mess, and once I started looking like I wet myself I started wearing a towel and apron while cutting. The blade it came with worked great until we wore it out. It was better than the replacement one we bought. I tried looking for just their blade, but failed. Not really for larger tiles unless you stack stuff on either side to support the tiles. Anyway, would definitley buy again.
