I know he is skipped over a lot, but I seriously think that Rampardos is criminally underrated as a mon. Why? Well, allow me to break it down. Rampardos has an INSANE attack stat, making it ideal for being a wall breaker. Although it is slow, there is the existence of the choice scarf, which boosts the speed of Rampardos with the handicap of only being able to use one move until you switch out or get knocked out. For stats, I usually like to run it as jolly with 252 in attack and speed, just to get up to that nutty 350+ speed stat. Plus, the attack stat is going to sit pretty high over 400. For the ability and moves, you throw on sheer force. With sheer force, you can utilize Rock Slide over Stone Edge for a more reliable accuracy. With sheer force, Rock Slide becomes as powerful as Stone Edge with a 90 accuracy over 80. After that, throw on Iron Head for a good steel coverage move that is also boosted by Sheer Force. After that, put on Earthquake as a good coverage move for steel, poison, fire, and rock types. Lastly, it can be a toss up between Fire Punch or Zen Headbutt. I personally go for Zen Headbutt for the coverage against fighting types, and Zen Headbutt can hit walls like Mega Venusaur SUPER hard. Although, Fire Punch is useful against Ice, Grass, and Steel types. Both are boosted by Sheer Force in the end. Rampardos has access to a LOT of moves as well, so the set can be switched up to a wide variety depending on what you're going up against. It's a toss up with the choice item, but a stab + sheer force Rock Slide from a 400+ attack Rampardos is going to do some damage, and a LOT of it. I run this set a LOT in OU and it can really catch people by surprise. This setup is the reason that Rampardos has become my favorite fossil Pokemon. I would just switch Tyrantrum out for Rampardos as it serves as a better wall breaker, in my opinion.

It's Adamant and has Dig to counter Electric-Types, Aqua Jet for STAB, Metal Claw for up close and personal and Night Slash as a signature and due to the fact he used to be a Dark-Type Gym Leader! Given the presence of an Assualt Vest, there is obviously some recognition that increased Sp. Def is a good thing (particularly when most rock types are low in that stat).

@@TourUser9630 It's generally not worth it since just boosting SpDef isn't that helpful and none of these are great defensive pokemon either way. The chip damage is alright but it'll go away after 5 turns (8 with an extending item. Sand teams are only ever good nowadays if they have options to abuse it offensively too. You never saw any Hail teams in gen six because Hail doesn't boost any stats and only became viable in any capacity after gen VII brought us Slush Rush and Aurora Veil.

@@gravethestampede3454 Fair enough... most fossils have reletively low defense for rock types. The highest on the team is 125 base (Omastar) and Tyrantrum (base 119) has the vest. That being noted, they aren't terrible, but could be better. (72 base isn't stopping much, and even the 105 on Kabutops doesn't justify ignoring Swift Swim)

Auroros is neat but Bastiodon does his role way better. Comes with natural sturdy and can hold a damp rock. You can also use Metal Burst to stop an opponent’s sweep in a pinch if you don’t lead with him.

You neglected to mention that Hyper Voice is also boosted by Refrigerate. ______ate abilities boost the base power of normal moves by 30% in addition to changing its type, so Refrigerated Hyper Voice is 117 base power, AND gets a STAB boost on top of that. It's one of the reasons I love Return on Mega Pinsir so much, and Hyper Voice Sylveon.

I’ve been using a team in gen6 OU with the rule that I have to use at least 1 fossil from each generation. I’ve had a lot of fun with it on Showdown Cradily, Mega Aero, Kabutops, Tyrantrum, Rampardos, and blue turtle from gen5 (I forget it’s name lol) I might switch out Kabutops with Omastar since my current team is ALL physical….I put Hidden Power-Fire and Ice Beam on the blue turtle, but that’s probably not ideal. I’ve actually won a couple battles
