Athens has a lot to offer visitors, whether you’re staying for a few days or a week. In fact, there are so many things to do in Athens, Georgia, that everyone-from history buffs and culinary experts to sports fanatics and nature lovers-is guaranteed to have a good time. Sports fans will love watching the Bulldogs perform in their hometown.
If they’re playing elsewhere, you can catch them at one of Athens’s many sports bars-soak up the exuberant atmosphere while you down a beer or two. You can also go on a treasure hunt: walk or cycle around town for the thirty or so Dawgs statues. Finally, head to the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall Sports Museum for your fix of Georgia sports history. If nature’s your thing, head to the 113-acre Walker Park. There are splash pads, playgrounds, green lawns, and even professionally planned mountain bike trails. You can also head to the corner of South Finley and Dearing Streets to spend some time with America’s only tree that owns the land around it.
Oh, and be sure to stop in at Bear Hollow, a sanctuary for animals that can’t be released back into the wild. Being that Athens,Georgia is only a 1 hour and 20 minute drive.Athens is one of Georgia's fastest growing cities . Athen's has become "like a suburb of Atlanta " .Many retirees from up North have retired in Athens
