Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and the largest city in the region of Dalmatia. It lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, centered on the Roman Palace of Emperor Diocletian.
Spread upon a central peninsula and its surroundings, Split's greater area includes the neighboring seaside towns. An intraregional transport hub and popular tourist destination, the city links to numerous Adriatic islands and the Apennine peninsula.
Here are some suggestions for things to do in Split. Visit the Diocletian's Palace; this ancient palace was built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in the heart of Split and is home to many shops, restaurants, and landmarks.
Walk along the Riva, the waterfront promenade in Split, which is a great place to take a leisurely walk, have a drink at a café, or watch the sunset. Explore Marjan Hill. Marjan Hill is a large park just west of the city center with beautiful hiking and biking trails, panoramic views of the city, and several small beaches.
Visit the Split City Museum. This museum is located in the old town of Split and offers a fascinating look at the history and culture of the city. Take a boat trip. Split is a great base for exploring the Dalmatian coast and the many islands that dot the Adriatic Sea. Many boat tour companies offer trips to destinations such as Hvar, Brač, and Šolta.
Take a day trip to Krka National Park, located just a short drive from Split; Krka National Park is home to beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, and several historic monasteries. Go to the beach. Split has several beautiful beaches within easy reach of the city, such as Bačvice Beach and Kasjuni Beach.
