TY for sharing your "adventures in "TJ." As an Urban Indian, native of LA, I often heard stories from my dad about growing up in LA (Topanga Cnyn to Long Beach) from the 1920's onward, and also from school mates, in High School about legendary TJ, as it was called in the 60's. It took years to convince our Papa to take us, because of his experiences as an Angelino, but our mom also one day (who had more influence) finally convinced him, it would be "fun" to see. Her family originally hailed from Zacatecas & Spain, so her Spanish & perhaps her sense of "adventure," was somewhat different. We finally went (did not require a passport for a day trip), and saw a very "different" view, a much poorer, undeveloped & typical border town, where children ran up asking for Chiclets, or gum or change! We had seen Agua Prieta, which resembled a less snazzy version of Douglas, Az., where we often visited. But sadly, there was not much to do or see, and the poverty was stark in comparison to your experiences. Indeed, we wished we had brought more to share, although our Aunts who were nuns had many stories about their visits & work there. But we never re-visited with our Papa...perhaps, it brought back painful memories of his childhood in LA, where so many children were dispossessed, and yet growing up surrounded by another World, out-of-touch with what had been before.

That can be a positive, as in lots of Americans are moving to Tijuana for low rents, I don't want my rent to go up,... keep thinking Mexico is dangerous, please
@emagee78643 жыл бұрын
@@geraldarnoult I feel safe there but I typically stay away from the sketchy areas. There are upscale areas where I feel completely safe and its very modern. The affluent areas are still way cheaper than SD rents. The only negative in my mind is having to cross the border back to the US. Without Global/Sentri, it can be a long wait for cars. Walking over is a lot shorter since they upgraded the port of entry.

@@emagee7864 Here's my take on that, I know in the states when people see certain areas they are fearful, I have been in Many places in Tijuana and have not had any big problems, just have to be smart, lock your car, don't leave valuable noticeable, best to park in a pay parking if able, but I know people who don't and nothing happens same areas are better then others, but I have never been really afraid of those lower areas, you probably have not been in Tijuana long enough to really know it, and still green behind the ears, I have been in Tijuana for over 40 years, it take me about a good 15 or 20 years to really know Mexico, I have always lived in the beach area of Tijuana, decent places, had my car broken into, alarm was not on, all areas are not like that, and had valuable in my car a few bags, got my wallet stolen, I was drinking in the bar area about 2am in the morning, I fall and someone help me up and grab my wallet and run, chased him but he was to fast, nothing life threatening no guns, knives, getting jumped, most of the violence is drug and cartel connected, but you have to seek that out, that can be more dangerous, the cartel which if you set next to one you would not even know it, unless your involved (you have a better chance being struck be lightning then the cartel) I don't, if any consolation, the murder or Americans citizen in Mexico is low, like less then 50 per year, in the whole country of Mexico, most believed involved in criminal activates, I never seen a dead crime victims in the streets, never seen a shoot out, not to say it cant and don't happen, but I have not seen, if you pay attention to the U.S. media, you would think there's body on every corner and rivers of blood flowing down the street, its lots of hype, you may just be still green behind the ears, it take time to know, by real life experiences, I find mostly crime of opportunity and Penny ante, but not like Murder and stuff like that just as I said be but like in the Zona Norte but more then likely nothing will happen to you in that area just be smart like in the states I don't care were I go, I lock my door in Mexico or the U.S. what I notice in the U.S. is lots of senseless crime and murders and there's NO KARENS HERE (Ford Quarterman), his an American who speaks Spanish his from Georga U.S. who goes all over Mexico, you will love his video's, places food fairs, guaranteed, check this (KZbin vidio (Sabor a Chocolate - Lo Mejor de Los Coleaderos) Mexican fair, Mexican cowgirls, very pretty

I got pulled over in Mexico and had to pay off the Mexican cops. I got news for ya- there's no reason to ever go to Mexico.
@geraldarnoult3 жыл бұрын
@@straighttruth2282 They just pulled you over, right, you don't need to go to Mexico stay home, why did you pay? the cop didn't grab your wallet, you paid him, just go to the police station and pay the ticket, 98%, I talk my way out of a ticket, (I didn't say pay) even I know I did something wrong, I have never know anyone who went to jail in Mexico for nothing, fighting, peeing in the street, sneaking liquor into a clubs, drugs, stealing, fighting with the girlfriends loud arguments, a friend will say I never did anything and then when you start questioning them, you find out, or like an American who was involved in drugs and was murdered and its always, he was just an innocent bystander, intel you find out he just got out of jail for drug smuggling, I could rob a bank, kill someone and give Fox news a call saying, I was sit up and innocent and I would be on the show as an American hero, here is one example: of what I mean, years ago I seen on 20/20 about Mexican corruption and they showed a Tijuana cop going trough someone packets, they made it look like it was a shakedown, it wasn't, it was to pay the bar tab, hi walked out of the place without paying, you think that was an accident? no it was deliberate, a juicy story and most American will hit that like a fish hits a shining lure, you don't think the media did not know that, it was not an accident, happens all the time, what something looks like, don't always mean what it may look like happened
