Thank you for this tip. I am thinking the 'yellow' on the bottom of your bottle might be the coloring they have added so we can see the masking fluid on the paper. I am new at watercolor color painting and find you an inspiration. A little advanced for me but something I can strive for. I am a senior and have moved into a 4 stage senior community and promised myself that it is about time I paint with my longtime dream of watercolor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time.

Hello Maria I am so very glad I have found your channel and patreon website. Thankyou! I tried diluting masking fluid with water to make it easier to apply. But when I went to remove it , it had bonded to the paper and would not come off with erasing. I had to apply white gouache over the yellowed masking fluid to attempt to save the painting. I had left it on about 2 weeks, as an additional complication. Is there such a thing as too dilute or was it the time on the paper?

Don't leave it on too long or it will be more difficult to remove. Or maybe too much water added and it soaked into the paper? Experiment with some scraps of watercolor paper to see what works best.💙💜❤

THANK YOU! I don't use masking fluid often but when I do it gets thick and dry when I'm about half way through the bottle and I have to buy a new bottle of frisket. It's so expensive and it is a terrible waste. Thank you so much for this tip. I didn't know I could just add water and thin it down again.🥰💖🤗

The problem that I'm having is... The Masking Fluid is becoming very strandy! I'm covering say an eye but when I paint up to the previously covered the previous MF sticks to the applicator and pulls away in strands. It was a brand new bottle of MF when I started the project! Maria, I have used masking fluid and experienced it lifting the paper away on some occasions, if I were to thin the masking fluid down a fraction would it not lift the surface of the paper away?

Hi Maria 👋 Thank you so muchfor this video. I have an other question. Sometimes the paper is damaged by the masking fluid when I try to take it of. It doesen't lift well... Do you think the problem is the masking fluid or maybe the watercolor paper? ⚘

Hi Yes, and no 🙋🏻‍♀️ Sometimes it is the paper because it depends on paper's sizing, some are too delicate. I would stay away from cheap student grade watercolor papers. But this can happen even when you paint on the best papers like Hahnemuhle's the Collection, or Leonardo, or Arches, when you paint on thicker papers like 300lb, the surface is more delicate so you have to be very careful. Some masking fluids are just cheaply made, become too old.. so that could be another issue 🤗

To add to this answer-Sometimes if the paint is still wet around the masking fluid it can also cause this issue as well as applying it but not waiting long enough for the masking fluid to dry before painting over it. Always wait until it’s allll COMPLETELY dry before removing all or before applying any paint or water to it. A residue eraser also helps with this process as well because the masking fluid sticks right to it with very little effort of removal so you don’t have to scrub/rub so hard to get it off. It works wonders and don’t cost that much on Amazon.

Hi, I have a few masking fluids, WN, white and colorless, then Holbein's pink and blue, Schmincke's blue, Sennelier's blue (terrible experience with the nib bottle btw), and I may have somewhere Pebeo too... just have to look for it. The ones I like best are by Holbein and WN.
