I am pregnant with my 3rd baby, I had amazing midwives for my first two births but this time I live much further away from the hospital. It's roughly a 1 to 1 and a half hour drive through rural countryside. My husband is a fireman so we are quite familiar with getting out of the house quickly, so our plan is to get in the car as soon as my water breaks ( I did naturally both previous times) and to have everything I need in the car waiting. I'll be in the back seat while my husband focuses on the drive and I have been practising sitting positions. I think some good advice is to time how long it takes to get to the hos and to do a few dry runs before it's necessary. That way you know to do, what to expect and you will be less panicked on the day. And breath

If you have puppy pads you can use th for the car ride instead of the towel. They can be disposed of when getting to the hospital instead of having to carry a dirty towel around with ya :)

My husband is very worried about going into natural labor and not being progressed enough to be admitted. We live a little over an hour from our delivery location. Do you have suggestions for us?

Great question! Many people have a long drive to the hospital and face similar situations. Talk with your doctor/midwife, but I would recommend waiting until contractions are in a 5-1-1 pattern. (video about that pattern here kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2SUipuAjbuWisU) Laboring at home for first time babies is a great idea. Sometimes leaving for the hospital too early in labor can slow contractions down. If he is worried about how to support you at home, I would recommend that he check out the SupportingHer course as well. When Dads are prepared they are calm!

I was wondering my self because this will be our 3rd child and we live 45 mins away from the midwife birthing centre so should I also leave at the 5-1-1 as well
