I appreciate this reminder about the simple things, so much. We are definitely living in an individualistic society. We are also under an incredible amount of pressure (the less children we have, I think the more pressure there is) as modern parents in our culture of entertainment, to provide our children with more and more elaborate "experiences" and to keep up with the Joneses in keeping our kids "occupied", not just materially with toys, but with entertainment and expensive trips/events for our children. It's exhausting and totally unsustainable, and we miss out on what they really want: connection and time and living life along side of us, and that's a completely different mental space altogether. I feel like the busier we are the more we are likely to try to make up for it with material or expensive experiences and this is what consumerism bombards us with every day. It's hard to remind ourselves of what our kids really want: just a relationship with us. Thanks so much for this!!

You are very welcome! Wow, SO well said! I completely agree. What our kids want most is a close relationship with us.

These are great tips. I love our Quiet Time everyday. I have three. My oldest is 9 and she loves to read, so it works perfect for her to have devoted reading time while the three year old and baby nap. We just finally got the little kids on basically the same afternoon nap routine, so it’s been nice to have some alone time again since my baby is 7 mos now. 😊 I like your write it down tip! I’m going to start doing that. ❤

So grateful for your wisdom. Mommy of four here and this is definitly a worry that I have All the time! I love how practical and real your advice is. Your last tip on homeschooling boys was successful for me, and I'm going to be putting little initials with circles in my planner tomorrow!

I'm just 5min in and will need to continue later. Just wanted to say great important topic, nice spot where you sit and I find your videos very professionally made, I just enjoy watching them and of course last bit not least good content. Even though we live in Germany where we are not allowed to homeschool our 6 kids... So thanks & be blessed! Angela

This is a comment from a video I watched a bit back, can you explain more how you use Abeka language and how you space it out and what you use in it or don’t use in it? I have used it before and I feel like it is a lot to do at times if you do all they ask. But I still want my kids to learn about it, just in a quality way, I’m not super concerned about quantity unless they love it and pursue it on their own, but either way I’m not sure how much I should require my kids to do if I’m doing copywork, dictation, narration and journaling also.

Sure! They do only 1 page of Abeka language a day, 4 days a week. I don't do any of the writing sections, book reports, research paper sections (except for putting in alphabetical order...I think that is a practical skill), etc. I like for them to learn punctuation, types of sentences, parts of speech, spelling rules, ways to use/not use words, etc. Copywork is everyday, written narration 2x a week, journaling about 1 day a week. I tend to do dictation on an as needed basis, when I see they need more work on certain skills. In general, no, I don't do book reports. I hope that answers your question!

Thank you! I'm always blessed by your videos! Recently I was thinking about sabbath schooling and sabbath in general and so i have been applying it to my days as well. We get going around 7 am so i take a rest at 2 pm and another rest at 9 pm... it's been really helpful to be more intentional about it. Depending on the child, cleaning has been some great alone times for my kids. My oldest always volunteers to help me with my laundry because she knows her siblings don't like that task ha ha i love your initial in the calendar idea! Actually if you ever had a planner video i would be really interested, how do you keep track of bills, work schedules, events, homeschool, birthdays, holidays....

Thank you so much! I agree, rest time is what energizes us and we have to be intentional about it or it just won't happen. That's cute about your oldest and wanting to help with laundry. ..I keep a running list of video requests...I'll make a note about a video keeping track of things in my planner. Good idea! Thanks for the input!
