We planted some Gaillardia from the SpinTop series, and various sites indicate they grow about 12-15" high and wide, which seems a good deal more compact than the variety you were documenting. We spaced them 18-20" apart rather than 12-15" apart here in Central Texas (zone 8b) because I suspect they'll be a bit larger than tagged.

I live in the Suwannee River Basin which includes the Suwannee and tributaries. Withlacoochee River, Alapaha, Santa Fe River and Ichetucknee River. We are about to have black eyed Susans covering the ditches along with those beauties. I also grow them in rock gardens in the backyard. They are about to go put on their summer spring show

@@mycarolinagarden update! Wow they really seed fast! I have so many now 😮 along with sweet alyssum and black eyed susans and some native plants! Every morning I trim a few seed heads off. Gotta save seeds since we were hit by hurricane idalia so hard last year. We're near the FL GA line and also about 70 miles from the Gulf Coast so I know it's possible they'll get wiped out
@mycarolinagarden5 ай бұрын
@ereynoldful3974 definitely fast spreaders for me, too! I hate hearing about hurricane loss, breaks my heart. You are smart to think ahead and save seeds. Sounds like you have beautiful blooms now though! 💚

Great video, I was wondering when to harvest the seeds. First year growing blanket flower, it looks fantastic growing next to my red & yellow marigolds.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Honestly, I don't harvest the seeds. The plants actually self-seed so much that I just let that happen and then transplant my new plants wherever I want (or give them away). I transplant in the Spring 😊🌼
@poetrynook9625 ай бұрын
Can I plant these in late July or wait for spring?
@mycarolinagarden5 ай бұрын
In my experience you can plant them in July. In fact I just dug out several of mine to share with other people. Just be sure to water til they can stand on their own nicely 😄

@DenaShreve typically you'll see it seed in small bunches that are all separate. Very easy to divide.

aAh your garden looks so pretty, I have one of these plants for 3 years but it was short short, like6 inches tall and produced crazy amount of flowers, I kill it at the beginning of this year by mistake :(, I guess it drop some seeds which they never work before and I have a brand new plant but this one, the flowers look the same but the plant is tall, this year was hard to find this plant , and now almost summer over I see few for sale but very expensive, going to try to save seeds this year.
@mycarolinagarden Жыл бұрын
Ahh! First, thank you for your kind words! Secondly, you are right, the cost of plants this year has been outrageous! 😳 I hope you can save seeds and get another plant for next year. I have so much deadheading to do on them, it's insane. Good luck!!

If I plant these next to my lawn, and if they go to seed, will they start to grow in my lawn? Or would the lawn be too thick for them to germinate?

I personally get a few here or there in my grass that I take out, but it's not nearly as much as in other areas.

I bought a plant from a nursery and planted in a pot but it’s splitting down the middle and leaning over. Can I still dig them out of the pot and plant into the ground? I’m in zone 9b..
@mycarolinagarden6 ай бұрын
I think it'd be worth a try to put it in the ground. At the very least, collect the seeds when the flowers expire and plant them in the ground so you have a chance to get a new plant out of it.

Can you dead head these in the fall to keep them shorter?

I'm honestly not sure. I dead head them throughout summer because of the seeds, but maybe if you trim lower on the stem that would do the trick?
