I got the Clipper with the mind of getting the Cutter as soon as possible after. I then flew that Clipper for about 6 months exclusively. There is something to be said about a ship that can explore at 40LY with 1000+ shields and 1000+ armor while hauling the firepower to kill any NPC to come after it.

Four or five days ago I had a moth-balled Vulture, 13 Million in the bank, and a spanky new Asp Explorer fully kitted out for exploration (totally un-engineered). I took a passenger cabin instead of SRV, and accepted a mission to take Famous Explorer to the Clockwork Rings (for Canonn science - yeay Canonn). I got back to habitation just now and spent 15 minutes handing in exploration data. I got 246 Million fucking credits :)

I strongly disagree with the placement of the Imperial clipper. It's a beautiful ship, great performing ship, great all around ship. But the fact that it is a medium ship that can't land on medium landing pads completely destroys that ship for me. It's almost an insult. Frontier needs to make the wings fold up when the landing gear comes down so you can land on medium pads. Then people will actually have a ship that can compare to the python to play the game with. Everything in this game revolves around medium ships and that means everything in the game revolves around the python and FDL. It could be python clipper and ftl. Personally I believe the clipper and the courier are absolutely beautiful ships that are for the most part useless. I believe the courier should have a very long jump range like its namesake would imply. A small lightning fast long range transport that's capable of defending itself against a moderate attack while it escapes. It could be cool to use it for sightseeing adventurers with a high jump range and given its made Innate type of luxury that it should have 1st class or VIP cabin ability and I go out and do sightseeing stuff or use it as a nice bubble boss. All in all my opinion doesn't mean anything. Just hopes and dreams. Shit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up faster kinda thing. Also would love to see a massive cargo ship that would dwarf the cutter and beluga.

I agree - everything about the Gutamaya range and Clipper's stats scream "medium ship". It's the gap in their range that the Clipper should fill. Or else upgrade some of the gear - maybe allow a class 6 FSD or at least upgrade one optional class 4 to class 5, add a fighter bay, or something to justify the "large" size. The Courier I agree too - I love flying it, but it should have that ultra-long jump range the name implies. That would make it stand out, instead of just being an ultra expensive but stronger Imperial Eagle.

The cutter honestly belongs in the godlike tier. It can make the highest per hour profit in the game by mining, its the best trading ship in the game with the largest cargo capacity available, and it can hold up in combat with its gigantic shields and acceptable weapon options. Its jump distance is ok at best but you can bring so much with you while exploring so its kind of worth it

I just cant get used to the Clipper also had a few bad times with it and it kind of let me down. The Type-6 and I just didn't get along, though I've been thinking about trying it again.

Disclaimer: I love my clipper. There is not a ship I would rather fly in the game. It has the majority of attributes I associate with success and fun in the game. Fast, nimble, jumps ok, holds a lot, looks good. But its not particularly well armed or armored, so its better suited at running from combat. Jump range is ok, and can fit a big fuel scoop, so luxury explorer maybe? It can hold some cargo, but is expensive and behind a grind wall. For trading, I prefer the cutter ( I know, even more expensive and behind a much bigger grind wall, but best trader ship by far ). So there's not a role for the clipper. Mine is a bubble bus, and that's a shame to have such a capable, wonderful ship and no place to use it.

My Cutters A8 fuel scoop costs more the the ship it self and has the same effect on a star as a black hole. 42Ly jump range while fully armed and equipped for everything I could encounter, all while being completely untouchable by any PvP players in existence. LaFleur13 the Cutter is heavy to begin with so adding or removing extra weight from her doesn't have much effect on the ships jump range. Just engineer the FSD, and add a size 5 guardian FSD booster. Though it may help that I run an A7 power plant and A7 thrusters over the A8 ones the Cutter is able to equip, even the weight saved from those has minimal effect on the ships jump range. Just know that the size 7 FSD once engineered should get you to around 30 or so ly range and the size 5 booster adds around 10 or so more jump range to what ever you have, that will get you to about 40ly and from the you can just engineer with the lightweight mod on anything you feel is too heavy, I did it to the A class sensors and life support I believe. I feel I should mention that I don't use my huge hard point as I like to role play that there's a shuttle in there for landing on planets and such, and my weapons are just four turreted beams on the upper mounts, and two mining lasers or gimbaled multi canons on the lower two medium mounts depending on what I'm doing. You really just need the Guardian FSD Booster from the "personal narrative" as its called, and some engineering. --Momentai :3

The truth is people like you Yamiks just have Imperial bias out the ass. You claim to not do combat much which you hold against the Vette, but mention the shielding on the Cutter, which you shouldn't need any way. The only people that think the Corvette is single-use, are people that either don't own it or don't have enough intelligence to see that it is one of the best mining and short-range traders in the game. It can hold a large amount of cargo, and can have a full array of mining gear while still having enough DPS to handle whatever comes at you. It also has better time on target and overall more tankiness then the Cutter because of the fact that it handles like a large FDL with proper engineering. All of that shielding means nothing when the Vette is constantly on your back with great weapon convergence. Anyone that thinks the Cutter is a better ship is either lazy or doesn't own a Vette. Nobody that owns all of the big ships, is blind to the problems the Cutter has. Can't call the Vette single-use while calling the Cutter multi-use, that's just bias. It's actually part of the reason I can't stand Empire, not only do I appreciate the military aesthetic of the Fed but the bias for Empire is insane. Frontier has that same bias though so it is what it is. Empire is the perfect allegiance for metrosexual, effeminate men nowadays.

Lion of Yasharahla Well like I said combat is the thing that I least do in the game so time on target is not something I have to worry about however when I do need to do combat I was not prepared for (by prepared for I mean in my ferde) I just boost and then flight assist off and with it’s speed you can easily track targets moving in the same direction trying to get around you and if/when they do just repeat. And even thats only in 1on1 situations which is even more unlikely as I fly in a wing of 2-3 pretty much 95% of the time because thats the only time I get on the game anymore

@@gregc9344 Time on target is just a benefit of good handling. However the real truth is that the game just has an incredible Empire bias. Frontier has that same bias which is why the Vette has a smaller frameshift and thruster. Same reason that Fed only has one good PowerPlay item while the Empire has multiple. Same reason they gimp the Vette and allow a broken 400 ton ship like the Anaconda to stay the same. Despite the fact is one of the largest ships in the game and should easily weigh twice as much. I have all of the big ships but that doesn't keep me from seeing the bias. Flying in a wing just hides the weaknesses of a ship. The Vette really deserved a bigger FSD and thruster, but if they had done that they couldn't maintain their bias. Frontier and the rest of the community just wanks multi-role and Empire just like Yamiks.

I don't know if there is anything that can kill you easily in a prismatic shield tank meta FDL. except some wacky phasing build especially made for the sole reason kill big dong shield tanks without hull (also called FDL). It's definitly not good at swooping in and kill another well equipped combat ship but it's great in nibbling someone to death in an outstretched tidieous and boring pvp session. Oh and don't come around with reverb torps. When was the last time those things hit a moving target anyway?

You should mention the abysmal turn rate of the Cutter. Think of donkey, in the middle of a frozen lake. Now image said donkey has a rocket thruster on its back, that is the Cutter. It is a very decent ship but I would not recommend it until you have the cash to A-rate the modules and upgrade all of them via engineers. This puts the ship close to a billion in credits.

Also shield silhouette is huge so shields go down so fast (maybe not as bad if you joust with it..?) Absolutely did not like it for pve combat

My own good ships list: 1) Dolphin: Cheaper alternative to AspX with better Fuel Scoop to FSD Class ratio than any other small ship in the game (and thus an outstanding exploration ship.) Mine gets 57ly while still carrying 11t of guns and dual SRVs. And yes, you CAN absolutely fit everything you need in a Dolphin - scoop, guardian FSD booster, shield, repair limpet controller, a tiny cargo bay, DSS Scanner, and even an AFMU. No, you don't need more than that. 2) Imperial Courier: It's like a FDL with half the DPS but 1/30th the price, the same shields, and way, way better handling. In this ship you will spend less time turning around and more time throwing hot lead at your opponent than any other, I personally guarantee it. And that's even without FA-off. The only downside is that fixed guns on the wings do not converge well at point blank range, but that's why you run gimballed beam lasers there and leave your railgun in the nose. And that's it. No, really. Get these two ships, then if you actually want something else later, that's fine, but these 2 ships will do 95% of all you need in Elite, on the cheap, and look damn sexy while doing it. If you're just starting, obviously get the Dolphin first. After a few data courier missions, make a trip to Colonia and back, then sell your exploration data in any Imperial system. This should give you enough Imperial rank to buy the Courier (and enough money too.)

Disappointed you didn’t mention a couple things: 1. Viper is insanely fun if stripped down and given Class 3 enhanced thrusters engineered to G5 Dirty Drag Drives and stripped of all unnecessary weight. 2. Cutter flies like an ocean liner even with G5 drives and a bunch of empty cargo holds. Also, link to Godlike tier video is borked; the video seems to be missing entirely from your channel.

I'd want to use the Clipper too, BUT, the thing that holds me back is the hardpoints placement, which I see as the ship's Achilles Heel... at least when using it for combat. Also, yes, I have heard that I could just put fixed weapons on one side, and Gimballed/Turreted on the other. BUT, that could be hard to get used to. Plus that I'm not exactly... shall we say, "comfortable" when the choices are more... "asymmetrical".

Yeah, the Clipper is a great ship aside for the hardpoint placements, which are possibly the worst in the entire game.

No you cant! Cram everything in a Cutter, that is. As i would like it to TRULY have space for EVERYTHING for such an expensive ship, but ... it doesn’t have room for it. At least on any meaningfull slot combination. Try to put ie. both autopilots and detailed surface scanner on it without leaving away something more important, and wasting way bigger slotspots that those 1 slot thingies need: Not gonna happen. So it really should have at least 2-3 more 1-slot spots.

Don't know if you tried it yet, but if you want a longer jump if not more total range, use a smaller fuel tank Also, using a 1D distributor only deprives you of boost. Something you don't use in superC

@@SteelBollocks Smaller fuel tank doesn't increase max. range and DBX, actually, can boost with 1D distributor. But this all still doesn't give super-lightwieghted DBX more than 76Ly max. range.

I don't much like the cutter - it's horrible to use in combat because the turning rate is awful and it drifts too much. Sure nothing can get through the shields, but it's so frustrating. I pretty much exclusively use mine for mining, which it is great for, but it's still not much fun.

i went from conda to cutter for my "shred every npc ship in my path" ship. mainly for the op shields. but ive recently gone BACK to a conda because with the bigger distributor it will do more damage, it turns a lot faster, and its cheaper. i found the immense amount of shield on the cutter just pointless. and the hour recharge time wasnt fun. so the a rated shields on the conda are sufficient to keep me alive through any npc encounter and recharge in like 12 minutes.

There's no reason bar credits why you can't have both. I have everything and the Cutter is my ship of choice for PvE combat. If I want mental flying I'll take my beam FDL, or my Beam Conda. When we had weekly community goals, first choice was Cutter. I have 3 of them I think it's so good. I have 1 Vette. It's a wheel chock :) If your 4k+ shields are dropping on your Cutter I'd say you are doing something wrong. I can't remember the last time I had no shields.

I agree overall, at least with the ships I've actually flown. I did struggle to find a good role with Cutter because I refused to use it as a mere cargo hauler. Tried using it as multirole, but it was just damn too big. Ended up giving it the AX role. Not as effective in it as Krait Mk.2, but it's more tanky while still being capable of running away when things go bad.

I'd say cutter is one of the kings of AX combat. You can even solo a medusa with it.

Cristian Gallardo Gebhard the clipper is really hard to pull off this move but smuggling in the clipper in a coriolis starport is a hard trick. But with heatsinks it is possible then you slam on the brakes and turn sideways before you crash thrilling excitement with big risk/reward.

I have to admit, I don't understand the love for the Clipper. It was such a miserable experience for me I ended up going back to the Courier to do the rest of the ranking to the Cutter (which thankfully is now my favourite ship in the game. About the only thing I don't use it for are exploring (I have a DBX for that) and mining (my Python's more practical, though I DID mine with my Cutter just because I could)).

Chief definitely belongs in god tier for me. The sheer amount of special effects it can throw at someone, the maneuverability, and being able to perform planetary scan missions without leaving the ship makes it a great all-rounder with a strong combat focus. Other than that, nothing I can disagree with. Great video as usual! ^_^

Funnily enough I have never liked ships that "do it all". Or rather, I dont like using a specific ship to "do it all". I am that player that gets, outfits and engineer a ship for every different thing there is to do. Going laser mining? I've got a Keelback for that. Why? It's got rotating engines and looks cool doing it even though it isnt the largest in terms of cargo. Going deep core and subsurface mining? I've dedicated the python for that role. Going trading legal goods on a long circle route through the entire bubble? Type 9 is doing that. Black market smuggling? Diamondback Scout. Moving through the bubble or sightseeing inside the bubble. I'm hopping in my DBX bubble bus. Going out in the black for some deep space exploring. Krait Phantom. I fancy doing courrier missions for some reason? I stil have my imperial courrier. Bounty hunting some lowlife pirate scum? Chieftain is loaded with big shlong frag cannons. Getting involved in faction wars and large scale battles? Corvette. And to this day, I deliberately ignore ships like the cutter, clipper and anaconda. They're just *too good* and they, for me, make the game boring. I like hopping from ship to ship depending on the activity. And besides. Outfitting and engineering all the ships slowly over time is one of the points of playing the game for me. It always gives me shit to do and a goal to reach. Open ended sandbox games like this requires one to set goals for themselves. Because the game does not give you any fixed endgame goal. YOU decide what your goals are. And this way of playing has kept me busy to this day.

I still love the DBX the most. I’ve done better with a class 4 fuel scoop on that thing than an asp explorer with a class 5. I can go anywhere, land anywhere, and due to the price you don’t cry if you get ganked. Unless you were carrying 2 weeks worth of system mapping and some A hole shot the hell out of you right after you arrived at Colonia.

Mainly agree with this list, however in fights the cutter's only good against NPCs or players who don't know how to dodge. The turn rate and lateral thrust is just so anemic compared to all others.

I've tried all the ships. The Corvette is, for me, the least annoying to sit in. For all the sitting I do while "playing" the "game", that's the most important consideration.

personally i would replace the chieftain with the challenger. The challenger does everything the chieftain can, the difference in manuveribility between the two ships when fully engineered is negligble, and the speed is offset by the raw tankieness of the challenger.
