With a little engineering Courier can hit 750m/s with a full weapons loadout and over 400 shields, all with a 40ly jump range. That is far better than OK tier! All your stripped down Vipers may be able to catch me, but you won't have weapons worth a damn. No other ship in the game is nearly as fun to fly as a Courier.

I think this is the first time in the two years that I've been watching your videos that I am whole heartedly disagreeing with you on something, Yamiks. As a part time Fuel Ratter the Phantom is a dream ship for me because I can do everything in it that I need or want to do with my set up except thargoid hunting and deep core mining. Its more nimble than the condado so it's great for code reds and with a nearly 60ly range I can go get almost any material I need with ease wherever in the bubble it may be. It's the upgrade from the Asp Ex that I needed (not to knock the OG though) to fulfill a Ratting/multi-role ship, not to mention it has the Millennium Falcon's engine design so its faaaaaast. It also thereby fulfills my Star Wars fantasy of being able to pretend that I'm doing the Kessel run while smuggling a se ret supply of Snickers. Yeah sure it may be a little squishy but it can hold it's own and for its price I would say it's a competitor for the best medium sized multi-role along side the Mk2 and Python. This is just my view on it though, but it's ok if you disagree Yamiks, we're all wrong once in a while. ;) keep up the good work love watching your videos.

Phantom for long range expedition is way better than ok, best ship in the game for that especially if you play in VR, conda is good but in VR it blocks 1/2 the screen... Vette is just a blast especially engineered - Conda though is basically the best all around ship and the phrase "The conda is not the best ship at anything but it's the 2nd best at everything" perfectly fits it.

Corvette is also an amazing Miner. Shitloads of cargo space, relatively small profile (nothing sticks out and fucks up your trajectory), Pirates tend to just run away.. and if not you blast them because you can have all your mining stuff and still have a boatload of weapons.

IMO the biggest issue with the corvette is the jump range, but that can be easily solved with a bit of engineering and an FSD booster. My corvette gets more use than my conda

.__. Corvette for pve scrubs? It's an pure vessel of war which handles like a Vulture if you know how to use it and holds strong pvp position. I barely can remember any huge wing fight in the most hot spotes without few corvettes from any sides. And if someone outrun you everytime - use LR fixed weapons. EDIT: and ofc use wing commands: you have wingmates not for random pews to each other - use tactics to get advantage even from slower ships - just call them return to you and your firepower will be useful. I think a decent solution to the Anaconda magical armour problem would be to make the hull have less armour with the light hull, and the reinforced/military hulls get their current values but have more mass. This wouldn't really effect people to much... after all, if you have explorer Anacondas with their light hulls would still get their jump range (but less hull), and combat Anacondas with the heavier hulls would still get their armour (but lose some jump range they don't care about). You might need to boost the Anaconda's maneuverability thrusters to counter the extra mass just to make it feel the same in combat.

Krait Phantom is my baby, but I use it *only* for exploration. I have heard it's pretty good for many combat roles because of its speed, though. Courier is my personal shuttle for bubble hopping. That 750 m/s boost speed is very good for making gankers eat my exhaust. Doesn't have much cargo space, but enough for rares. My Corvette is definitely the brazen PvE scrub ship, but I have managed to ward off a gank attempt with it. Probably could do OK in PvP against the seal clubber level gankers. My Gunship was a miniature version of the Corvette and is now retired to Colonia as redundant.

@@Zelisius Loves my clipper. It boosts at 630+ with what I would call a "multi-purpose" build. Some beams and MC's, warrant and wake scanners, SRV, big shield, fuel scoop, FSD booster... Fast and nimble for a big ship. Mine is light on shields and armor though, so I don't seek combat in it, but don't avoid it either. The cutter isn't much slower in a straight line, but turns like an aircraft carrier. I find the phantom is light for combat. I much prefer the Krait Mk II for any combat roles. I haven't done any exhaustive testing, but seat of pants tells me the Mk II is more durable and sufficiently powerful. Like a more maneuverable python.

The phantom is my current ship. I'm mostly interested in exploration but must do other things as well (grind ;-) and I feel it fulfills most roles OK. As an exploration ship I feel it is the second best after the mighty anaconda, at a fraction of the cost. It outclasses the Asp Explorer (which I love as well) in every way.

PSA: Krait Phantom is best in class medium pad non-combat. It's so ridiculously good you can actually run a couple/few empty internals and not feel much of a loss (which is also a cheap way to get you up to that 60ly jump range with engineered FSD and FSD booster). Or you can load it up, still have a best in class explorer and do one or two other jobs really well. This is the ship you want to grind engineer unlocks, materials, and just about everything else besides combat in. I feel like Yamiks is trolling with this pick placement, which would actually be kind of funny. Scratch everything I just said. Asp Explorer is clearly superior!

Yeah, you get to a certain point in the game and you don't care about credits much - except the fucking Cutter, which I honestly expected to be in this list simply because to purchase and upgrade one is ouch for all but the most credit & rank grindy of players. I was so disappointed when I finally got done with grinding empire, grinding credits, spending nearly a billion credits, grinding engineering mats, and fully engineering mine, only to find even with grade 5 dirty drag drives it still handles like an ocean liner and is even more irritating in supercruise than the Beluga.

Imperial courier is far better than a viper. With the two extra utility slots, you can stack your shields to far higher strength and resistances, or have space for utility slots like chaff and heatsinks. While it is not as fast as the viper, it has a much more forgiving optimal mass, meaning that compared to a viper of the same speed, the courier will have better defences. As an example, on the courier you can have a 900mj biweave while still at the speed cap of 885m/s. The viper for comparison cannot reach anywhere near that shield strength, and would lose a lot of speed if you did add a shield generator and boosters due to the unforgiving mass. For combat it is objectively a direct upgrade from the viper, therefore I think your opinion is misguided.

I disagree, massively. The Courier turns slow as all hell compared to the Viper, and has no where near the same acceleration curve. The Courier is more built to eat bullets or to outrun them as opposed to dodge them, and if you're going to go down the tank route you may as well use a MKIV Viper which is tankier than both the MKII and ICourier combined. The ICourier has a sick as fk cockpit though.

@@flowslikesilk1342 Actually the courier has a higher turn rate than the viper. Same roll rate, but higher pitch and yaw rate (tested using the max speed variants of both). Not sure what you mean about acceleration curve? I've never seen any info on it. Not saying you're wrong, but would like a source for interest if you don't mind. But the speed and turn rate doesn't matter much for the ships anyway, as they both turn ridiculously fast. And the difference between the speed and turn rate of a proper combat build for both is pretty small, yet the courier can pack in around double the effective shield strength due to the extra boosters, so IMO the huge difference in shield makes it a far better ship than the slightly faster but slightly less agile viper.

@@stvlth It has a higher pitch rate, thats it, both lateral and vertical performance is far higher on the Vipers, thus the overall movement profile is higher. As for acceleration, the Viper will go from its maximum speed in reverse, to its boost maximum in one boost. The ICourier needs two or even three depending on how it's built. This means the Viper is using the entirety of its total speed far more often than the Icourier and can do it in most directions to boot, see lateral and dorsal thrust. Shields these days are a crutch bruv, sure you can put 1500Mj on a ICourier, but its still never going to equal the Viper in dogfighting performance because its going to get shot a hell of a lot more.

@@flowslikesilk1342 Ty for the info, so I guess the courier has its own disadvantages and advantages in movement compared to the viper, so they're fairly even. However I still stand by my point that the shielding makes a difference. Any ship as small as the courier or viper will have no trouble dodging slower projectiles, as the viper has the speed to keep at range, meanwhile the courier has the lateral and vertical thrusters to orbit around your target. However, you'll still be an easy target for gimballed high velocity projectiles, and all hitscan weapons. That shield is necessary otherwise you will be deleted, especially since there's a lot of PvP rail users these days.

LOL, my two favorite ships in the game, the Phantom and the Corvette. Guess that makes me a PvE scrub. I'd have put the Cutter in here because that giant turkey is insanely over-priced particularly once you start A-grading it (I have the better part of a billion credits in mine), handles like shit, has a pretty poor jump range, and is outclassed by the Corvette and Anaconda for PvE combat, its only saving grace is its massive internal slots allowing for insane shield and hull tanking, massive cargo space, and it's decent straight line speed, which is unfortunately let down by the turning rates. I originally set mine up for AX combat, but found that I could do better with an Anaconda or Phantom, so now I've relegated it to mining. Seriously, a billion dollar mining ship, for me that's all it's good for. Oh and it's pretty, in a jetliner kind of way.

I'll point out that the corvette is also really good at anti-Xeno fights. I can't fit as many large slots as an anaconda but it's massively more maneuverable and interceptors can be ridiculously quick massive space assholes. That's still technically PVE, but really, it's just the best PVE ship in the game by far, so it's weird to say it's only OK.

I prefer the Phantom to all other exploration options! In my opinion, the Phantom easily can make for the best exploration ship, second to MAYBE Anaconda, I guess. It's internals, and jump range potential put it in first easily for me. (If I'm gonna be honest, it looks a little ugly especially when compared to Krait MK.2, but for how good it is, it doesn't bother me much)

IDK how it was in 2019, but at this point Phantom is strictly better than Asp Explorer both as a pure explorer (just gotta know how to outfit it right with size-downgraded modules etc to get that jump range higher than the Asp) and as a multi role ship. And the higher price is ultimately worth that. Tbh, the price diff isn't really that much to speak of considering how easy it is to make bank in Elite nowadays. Phantom is deffo a GOOD tier ship.

everyone shits on me for having a cutter and not a vet, yet the cutter is making it to the good tier without much trouble, its easy to see why, though, largest cargo, highest shields (by like a very long shot), very fast straight line speed, and the BEST looks in the game, which is very personal but i think most agree.

2:36 sure but it also has only 2 utility slots ... and interchanging one class 3 internal slot for 2 class 2s making the armor kinda opposite ... Courier has MASSIVELY stronger shields and thanks to its internals beats Viper even in hull strength ... in short Viper has almost 30% weaker shield potential and +-15% weaker hull than Courier does when engineered ... and as far as firepower id rather take 3 medium class weapons than 2 medium and 2 small Courier can get to DISGUSTING shield strength numbers around 2300 ... dont know about you but second i learned you can pump the Courier above 2000 shields with hull coming close to 2000 also it was my go-to small ship for Thargoid hunting

@@Kyzrath engineering for PvE is just fine, engineering in PvP is CANCER ... one is enabling you to handle PvE (where you are disadvantaged greatly) better, other makes PvP into "who has the most meta overengineered crap that non engineered build cant ever hope to win against" ...

I wouldn't call the Corvette a BAD pvp ship, I'd call it a support pvp ship. It doesn't work great in 1v1s, but in bigger, multi-person battles, Corvettes would make up a substantial part of them due to their raw durability and damage output.

Gunship is ok? GUNSHIT? For what? Trading? Exploration? Tourism? Or just to have fun seeing it exploding? The greatest fun I had was to sold my Gunsip to get an Krait which is for me the by far better and reliable combat vessel.

Until the krait came out, the FGS was pretty much it for a medium ship with a fighter bay. The trick to the FGS was learning how to joust instead of the usual methods. If you try to fly it like a fighter you're gonna have a bad time.

@@MordethKai I don't know about that because flying my Gunship like a fighter is just what I do and I have a blast! I'm one of those people that like to take some of the ships many people put in certain boxes and make some thing genuine. I admit, it doesn't always work out favorably by my Federal Gunship "Assault Gunboat." is a success story. NO MULTI-CANNONS on it. 21+ light year jump range. 2 SLF's and a buggy. I wanted one all purpose space, air, and land go anywhere combat craft and the Federal Gunship was the chassis that made that all work.

Corvette? An only-PvE Ship? Wat?! I think some of the PvPers who fly corvettes want to have a word with you. Even i as a total scrub in PvP can hold my own when im attacked by Meta-FDLs while in my corvette and even drive them off without so much as having my shields scratched! ((not killing them, i dont like to kill other players so i let them escape when they run, dont judge me))

I still think the Big Three should've been in the "Best" tier, since they've got so many module slots that you can equip them for any role you want them to. The only differences are the Federal Corvette is the best at combat, the Imperial Cutter is best at trade, and the Anaconda is great at everything. The only letdown for all of them is just maneuverability.

@Evil Flanker i have all three and all three big ones are more versatile than most "multipurpose" ships ... Corvette can do anything you want from it aside of exploration ... but you wouldnt take Python instead of Krait for exploration trip now would you ? ... same here you will take Anaconda ...

Evil Flanker Yes, fully outfitted for combat, since my Anaconda is fitted for either mining or exploration. I don't have the rank for the Cutter though, and I'm saving money for the Fleet Carrier.

I mean, phantom works pretty good as a pvp skirmisher to deal damage and hold it's own until the big bois arrive. And mine being built for exploration does pretty good. I have a 70 ly range and I still have an AFMU, Shield generator(for planetary landings), 16 repair limpets, and an SRV. For PVP, it's a very good starter ship for most players and in exploration, it is literally only beaten by the anaconda, but, to get the anaconda to beat it, you have to do WAY more engineering than I've done to my phantom and even at maximum with mini's new record build, the jump range is only 16 ly longer and his ship literally had nothing in it, no limpets, no cargo rack, no SRV bay, no shield generator, so in all reality, a wag more expensive ship, and way, way more engineering for in all realities an increased jump range of maybe 10 lightyears, and I still dont have the colonia engineers so my life support is still full weight, so I could probably bring my phantom up to 72 or 73 if i had all of that, and if i used mini's technique of getting smaller thrusters, i could slap on some undersized advanced thrusters and probably squeeze a couple more lightyears out of this thing. So yeah, anaconda beats it, but only by a cunt hair. And let's not forget, it works also as a cheaper python, so a well defended, long range trader is also something it excels at. Honestly, if I had to put something in its place, I would have said the Type 6.

Well, it's better in a narrow number of ways, because the Viper is a ship with limited uses (but is very strong at them at a cheap price). And where the Viper doesn't, the Cobra often does with it's versatility. Still, when it came to designing my Fireball XL-5, the Courier was the only way to go. I can't really say I can fly people around the Universe if I can't get to places like Semotus Beacon, and the Courier can do that while still being able to hit top speed, and the Viper simply cannot jump. The Cobra, of course, isn't anywhere near that running, because it just can't go fast now that there's enhanced 2A and 3A thrusters to compete with.
