I have taken this train numerous times. The rush to the train is mainly because there is no/not enough seating in Gare du Nord, so everyone has been standing waiting for quite a bit and obviously want to sit now. Secondly, if the train is full then it can be a struggle to find a place for your bag(s). You were also lucky to get one of the brand new trains. The older ones are also good, but this new one is a bit of an upgrade.
