Have been subscribed to your sight for a while and wanted to cut the coyote population on my property. They’ve played havoc with my deer and turkeys. Used your dirt hole technique, 3 night set and busted the first coyote today! Thank you for your great videos. Much appreciated!!

12:25 looks like belting material from an industrial use. My dad used to work in a plywood mill and brought some of it home when they threw it away. 30 years later we are still using them on the farm

I am enjoying your videos. I want to trap some coyotes here in TN on my property. I bought some conibears, a couple foot hold traps and some snares. I have no idea what I am doing. But I would like to see if I can thin these things down a bit. I need to figure out how to adjust my foot holds. The tension on them are way to tight. I also picked up some dye for the traps and some wax for the foorholds. I thought I heard that I cannot reuse the snares. I know they lock down but I thought I could just release them.. Not sure yet. I'm old but still learning. thanks again.

Is a shock spring important for coyote traps?
@CarolinaCoyote11 ай бұрын
It helps the trap be even more humane for the coyotes. Also, in some states, if the chain length from the base plate of the trap to the ground is longer than 8 inches it is required to have. For me, it’s required. Even if it wasn’t I would still use them.

Been using post hole digger to make holes. Is that too big or is the augur needed? Finally got coyote on a snare. The traps seem to be dug up each time. So have ordered some dye and wax.
@CarolinaCoyote3 жыл бұрын
I really wouldn’t want to use a hole any larger than 4 and MAYBE 5 inches. But I’m just coyotes make holes even bigger when they hurry their kill. My only thing against really big holes like that is that they can pretty much see to the bottom and it doesn’t really focus them down to the specific spot where the trap pan is. A smaller hole will make them work the set longer and harder to try to figure out or get what’s in the bait hole. I hope that helps!!

@@CarolinaCoyote it definitely does help. Only have a few #330 traps and some smaller foot traps. I have gotten a fox in a full body trap but a coyote seems to be smarter and knows better.....definitely will work on making holes smaller and see your point. Probably made a mistake by putting old chicken meat in with bait and lure. Sand seems to be caving in holes. Hope to set up game cameras to be able to see what comes. They come under fences and gates. I put bait holes nearby.....not sure their path after that. Is this a great location or should they be place farther from where they first come under at? Just have livestock and big and small that wanders all over properties...the coyotes and could be bobcats that have killed a lot of sheep, goats, and baby deer......it's kinda of sad.....enjoy your content. Have to turn down my volume for music but you present things pretty well.....looking into bait you mention...Hiawatha and gusto....have bait and lure just different brand......the poly fil definitely works great !!!

Getting back into trapping. I only trapped muskrats and raccoons. My biggest fear here in Southeastern VA 😢is catching somebody’s hunting hounds. Do the scents and baits for predators attract them and if so how do you deal with that?
@CarolinaCoyote2 жыл бұрын
I’ve caught my fair share of dogs. It’s going to happen. But the traps doesn’t hurt them. Just be careful. Put the catchpole on the dog, take the trap off and then remove the catchpole. 90% of the time that dog will be right by your side because in his/her eyes you just saved its life
@dannyo.41312 жыл бұрын
@@CarolinaCoyote thanks man. That makes me feel better. I’ve deer dogs and it’s always scares me to death so I would never trap predators. A lil red eating my chickens changed my mind on that last fall. Now it’s on!!!!!!

Appreciate the info. New to trapping and don’t know anyone with experience. I see you wearing gloves. Is that to cover scent? If so, are there certain type gloves you like to use? Also, what type of bait is best?
@CarolinaCoyote3 жыл бұрын
I use 2 pairs of gloves. One pair for bedding and handling the trap. The second pair is used strictly for the bait. Check out my baits video on my channel for all of the bait that I use!
