the Phantastic Family is going on a 2 1/2 week vacation to Asia, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and Cebu Philippines. I need a backpack that can hold all my Tech stuff comfortably and not be bulky. It also needs to fit under the seat of a plane without issues. after going through a few backpacks, i was never really happy with what i had. I tried the North face Recon and the Osprey Stratus 24 backpack. They were both really good pack but it didn't fit all my tech stuff.
After doing a lot of research i purchased the OGIO Renegade. There are so many compartments that i couldn't even fill it up! That was a definite first. I haven't taken it on vacation yet so i dont know what my final thoughts about this backpack is but for now, it definitely holds everything i need during vacation
here's the website to Ogio Renegade.

I also have this version of rss wherein the zippers are all back. I noticed that the hard shell compartment in this version of rss is smaller than the previous rss or at least the cover. Also the handle gets in the way of the zipper more. Dont you think?
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 5 жыл бұрын
yes the handle does get in the way of the zipper which annoying. I also think the chest strap is pretty flimsy, i wish that was thicker and stronger material.

I've got this bag and the North face Borealis.... The Borealis seems way more comfortable but I just can't get over how well this Ogio stores everything. Anyways, I'm going to the Philippines for 3 weeks and am still undecided on which to bring. Would you bring the Ogio again or go for a more comfortable backpacking bag due to all the planes and travel you have to do while in Asia? Also how well did this bag breathe? Was your back soaked from sweat when wearing it in Asia?
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 5 жыл бұрын
Ogio to me has the best storage. But to carry around the whole day touring in Asia wasn't comfortable. My back was really sweaty and shoulders hurt. I use the Osprey Escapist as my daypack. Not as much storage but comfort and breathability in hot/humid Asia was what I needed.
@Horarik
@Horarik 5 жыл бұрын
@@PhantasticFamily my exact thoughts. Might have to bring the Borealis or find a small packable bag to bring along with me! Great video, and thanks for the reply!

Did you go on your trip yet; what'd you think of it? I have one of these bags that I carry for work, but I feel like it would be too bulky/heavy to use as a daypack when traveling.. I'm considering it though for an upcoming trip.
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 6 жыл бұрын
j0hntash hi, yes i went to Asia for 17 days with it and it worked out well. With all the stuff in it, it fit under the plane seat comfortably. 8 different flights from large planes to small plane's. With all the gadgets,it did get bulky but nothing uncomfortable. All the pockets came in really handy so I never ran out of room. Using it as a daypack was fine too. I left a lot of plugs cables and stuff back at the hotel so it wasn't heavy. Only con I had was not having a waist strap like my hiking packs. That really helps with weight distribution. Also wish it had a mesh pocket to quickly put things in and a key ring. Overall it's almost a perfect travel backpack. Let me know what I and up choosing. I'm always on the lookout for something better!

The waist strap is very important to me to be honest.. In that repsect, my old (from back in 2005?) Targus laptop backpack a lot although the functionality is a bit questionable... (^_^)

I've been using this pack for a few years now, to carry just about everything. I use it daily to carry laptop, water bottles, lunch, gym clothes, etc. I routinely can't find my stuff in this pack due to the large number of pockets and loss of shape when not full, and that's a CONSTANT source of FRUSTRATION. Sometimes I have to use a headlamp and completely empty the pack before I find what I'm looking for. It's black so it's dark, making it hard to see. The material is thin and collapses down making it hard to find your stuff--it doesn't hold it's shape unless full. Really, after so much use I am sure this is the worst pack I've owned to date, but for $35 I guess it's not the end of the world. The Targus was simpler and nicer but I wore it out. I'm now looking at the North Face Base Camp Kaban or the Black Diamond Creek Transit 22, in gray or something lighter than black. They're both more expensive but hopefully less aggravating.

Thanks! good info!.. right now my go to bag is the Osprey Escapist 32. it doesnt hurt my shoulders and i like the hip strap to help with weight distribution. Hope the North Face pack works out for you!

Hi, it's a great bag with a lot of compartments but my main backpack now is the Osprey Escapist 32. Just because it's more comfortable. The Ogio started hurting my shoulders if I have it on for an extended period of time. Osprey is made for hiking so my shoulders didn't hurt that much. It doesn't have as much compartments though. If your on a flight to the hotel for work, Ogio is the way to go. For traveling and having the pack on you all day, I like the Osprey

By any chance, when did you order this bag. I have 2 rss bags 2 different colors and i don't have the pass through. I did buy the bag from Bestbuy as well.
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 6 жыл бұрын
baller jordan I ordered it at the end of December 2017. Right before the new year. Do you think you might have gotten the Ogio Bandit instead of the renegade? Bandit looks almost exactly the same but i don't think it has the passthrough for luggage handles.

I purchased my OGIO - Renegade RSS Laptop Backpack - Black Pindot .. Back in October 2016. Bought also the same backpack in BLACK as well. Every website i go to, they do not have a sku or model number for this specific backpack for the luggage with pass through. The only difference i see is mine says Renagade RSS 17 and yours says Renagade RSS.

baller jordan wow. I'm guessing it didn't have that option in the 2016 version? Sucks because it's a very useful part of the bag

Is this backpack waterproof or at least water reppellant?
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 6 жыл бұрын
i dont think its water resistant but i walked out in the rain in Malaysia and my stuff didnt get wet. Its made with a synthetic fiber material which helps repel water. In heavy rain you would probably want to get a protective rain cover for the backpack. around $10 on Amazon.

Nice review,, btw i just wanna ask what's the max weight capacity of this bag :)
@PhantasticFamily
@PhantasticFamily 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know what the max weight load is. I checked ogio's site and they didn't list it either. I had a round 20 to 25 lbs of stuff in it when I was in Asia vacation for 2 weeks. That was really heavy and the bag held up without any issues. Hope that helps.
