Still think my favorite came from Valdosta State in the D2 finals in 2018 (bias as a VSU alum) Backup QB could also run and catch so he was lined up as a receiver. Snapped the ball like an end around but before he got to the line of scrimmage he through it downfield diagonally to the starting QB for a touchdown. I think it was a 50 yard throw not counting diagonal.

11:07 Fake the slide was made an illegal play the week afterward ... I think it's now a 10-yard penalty from the spot of the foul. Had they not made such a ruling, any quarterback that does this would get killed by the defense the next time they faked a slide.

Exactly. If I'm on defense when that happens, he's getting absolutely buried next time he runs it. Helmet to the chest and aim for the far pylon. "My bad, thought he was gonna fake it again. Can't take chances." It's ok to take liberties, but understand that freedom comes with consequences.

It is really unsportsmanlike conduct. If a QB is sliding, the defense must let up and not go in for the tackle. So if you are faking it, you are making the defense disengage, because you are sliding. So an unfair advantage. Without this rule, defense would have to just hit the QB if they think he is sliding, because he might be faking it. And then they would get a flag. So the defense loses either way.

these are all fun to watch - but all of these plays have been around a long time.. flea flicker, jump pass, double reverse.. I AM 128 years old and I saw Harvard use all of those against the Eli's in the Yale Bowl in '21- NINETEEN 21! Now the old 23 Skidoo.. THAT was a trick play!

I will never understand how corners and safeties allow receiver separation on "Flea Flicker" plays. What happens behind the line should have zero effect on downfield coverage. Bet, it often does, which is why those plays sometime work.

There is now. Its a really dumb thing to attempt and so incredibly dangerous. In general if your trick play being caught on to means a player deliberately making themselves vulnerable gets just absolutely trucked, it probably shouldnt be legal. Same with the fake fair catch nonsense

The quarterback should be down at the point of the fake slide. If defenders must pull off once the QB slides then the QB should not be allowed to fake slide and continue running. Otherwise they need to eliminate the no-hit rule.

Fake slides and knees should be illegal. They are designed to protect QB and then QB abuses it. The players have to ease up immediately they have no choice because it will be held against them for hitting him. Using the fake slide will then make the defense follow through and actual hit a sliding man. Like waving a white flag and then opening fire, all white flags from then on are meaningless and defeats the rules intention in the first place, then just remove the rule cant have both.

I have been watching football for quite a long time now. With the rules of the NCAA and how a player is ruled down as soon as a knee hits the ground not allowing an untouched player no matter who he is. Why does that rule not come into play when the player who is the holder on FG’s allowed to get up and either run with the ball or pass it to an eligible player on a designed fake or able to pick it up and run when he either drops the snap or a bad snap occurs. Yet he can possess the ball with a knee that is already on the ground be able to get up and run with the ball. The NCAA needs to be consistent with that ruling, enough of the double standard. I am now going to go ROW THE BOAT I named WAR EAGLE.

Fake slide should be a penalty -- players are forced to change momentum when you start into a slide to avoid penalty. That's a cheap enough rule without allowing that cheap exploitation.

Quarterback slide rule should be changed it is there to protect the quarterback. Not to allow quarterback to create deception. Quarterback gives himself up on the slide play to protect against injury. If he initiates or starts the slide or pretends to start the slide the play should be blown dead at the spot he initiates the slide. All defenders pull away from the play and Quarterback is protected.
