Obviously we NEED a “Best Choke for Herter’s TSS” video. It’s better than the other store brands at a lower cost and with less payload (recoil). I’d also love to see Longbeard 1 7/8 #6 vs. Herter’s once the best choke is figured out. Best and most expensive lead vs. cheapest TSS. A common choice many face in the turkey load aisle.
@burkejones82778 ай бұрын
I been thinking about that myself. I have come to the following conclusions: 1. I don’t think it is a very good comparison between TSS and lead. TSS will win by pellet count alone. 2. I don’t think I will ever shoot anything but LBXR in a 12 gauge. 3. Herter’s hits hard!! But I know lots of folks who shoot TSS in 12 gauges. I shoot it in a 20 gauge.

The length of a barrel the choke of the barrel the feet per second of shell the forcing cone at the back of the barrel and the front of the barrel on every Firearm may differ in shoot pattern. In all the videos I have seen you make the most and best information about shooting. You are most knowing what you are taking about. Thanks for what you do. Just got to the spec sheet at 2:29, but wanna say Federal, and Rogue I have used and had TREMENDOUS results with. But Boss being the only one to send you a box of ammo says a lot about them as a company. They're prices seem to be getting more affordable compared to some, and compared to what they provide. This is especially true about their waterfowl loads, which being someone who does not get to waterfowl hunt very often, seeming to be some of the best overall performing out there. Like I said I don't get to go very often to waterfowl hunt, but I now have more of a reason to buy from them seeing as they are willing to help out a "relatively small" channel such as yours in this testing process. Compared to some channels that have ammo deals and etc etc. Looking forward to the rest of the video

George, I loved the video. Based on your videos, it seems like you are a big data guy. Here’s another data point for you. I went out today and patterned my 12 gauge Mossberg 930 at 50 yards with a Redhead Turkey choke and Remington Premier TSS. At 25 yards I got 397 pellets in a 10” circle, 62%, and at 50 yards I got 191 in a 10” circle, 30%. I think the difference between your data point and mine just proves your consistent point that every shotgun and shotgunner is different and you must pattern your shotgun to know how it will perform. Keep up the great work.

This was a very nice review of TSS loads. We don't have to shoot leftovers, because of wonderful souls like you. LOL! I have approached TSS much like I approached lead/hevi-13 turkey loads in the past. For a 10 & 12 gauge, I prefer #5 lead/hevi-13 loads over #4 or #6. I like splitting the difference. As I transition to TSS for my 12 gauge, I prefer #8 over #7 or #9. Three things about Apex sort of won me over. #1 - They did better than some of the other companies during the recent ammunition shortage caused by COVID or whatever. #2 They offer # 7.5, 8, or 9 shot options. I have no doubt Boss #7 & #9 are great loads, but I really like the Apex #8 option. For those who want to save a little money & have less recoil, Apex also offers a 2 oz or 2.25 oz 12 gauge 3" option. I have always found a discount coupon when purchasing Apex, too. #3 Although I don't see myself shooting 3.5" 10 gauge TSS loads that cost a small fortune, I'm impressed that Apex offers a 10 gauge option. I want to support companies that still support 10 gauges, even though TSS will steer me back to 12 & 20 gauges for turkeys. A 3.5" 10 gauge Hevi-13 load shot through my Browning Gold 10 smacked several Toms over the years, & it kicked less than my 12 gauge 870 shooting turkey loads. Sadly, 10 gauge Hevi-13 #5 has become hard to find. I liked your results. It confirmed what I knew about Federal TSS being over rated & over priced. I also knew Herter's were great performers for their payload & price. If Apex disappeared today, I would surely consider Herter's or Boss tomorrow! Thanks again for all your hard work & investment done for this review!

Great video- I took two shots last weekend in IA at Tom's at around 50 yrds using Federal TSS/Lead mix- neither bird I shot at got knocked down. Both birds were on the move due to seeing me stalking them, and one day the wind was very bad. I was using my Remington 1170 12 Gauge, Carlson choke (can't remember the diameter). I pattern at about 30yrds with my Burris red dot. Tomorrow begins my season in IL and I am wondering if I should order a box of Apex or Boss. I wouldn't get them for tomorrow, but would at least be able to use it for my other two seasons.

Going on my first Turkey hunt in a few weeks. I have a full choke on a mossberg 12 gauge with Winchester super X 3 in #5 shot. Will this setup work up to 40 yards? I patterned these shells with a modified chock at 35 yards and was getting about 15 pellets in the vitals.
@derickashby82947 ай бұрын
I watched another KZbin video where they have a pellet collector target, so when you shoot your tss, you reclaim some of your expensive pellets. Have you thought about that?
@TheNewHuntersGuide7 ай бұрын
I don't handhold so it likely wouldn't help much. Also, you could do factory ammo tests with reclaimed hand loads and I don't need more than 2 or 3 turkey shells a year for hunting so, for me it doesn't do alot right now. Plus I'm sure that thing has some cost and takes up more space than I have to set aside for it.

@paulellsworth76798 ай бұрын
@TheNewHuntersGuide 12 gauge TSS is certainly not a common load.... 20 gauge TSS is much more realistic, with 410 TSS rapidly increasing. When a 410 can adequately kill a turkey at 40 yards, why would anyone pay $20.00 per shot for 12 gauge? 20 guage is easily good out to 60 plus yards... What would someone use a 12 gauge for 100 yards? I mean how much is to much?
