The Project Debut Carbon Evo is belt driven, not direct drive. Not entirely sure if it does play at 78rpm, but you would need to replace your cartridge and stylus to play 78 rpm records. It also comes with an acrylic - not steel - platter.

Ha! Sounds like a cover of Roundabout in the background, and that’s a plus. It’ll be the first thing I play. Or not, I have a Rega Planar 3 which is awesome, and I’ve already played most of my Yes collection more than a few times. What I’m looking for is a table that plays 78s, has a removable head shell, so I can easily change cartridges and is speed-changeable without messing with the belt. I think the Denon DP-400 just might do it. Thanks for the great reviews!

Hey Josh, just found your channel, it popped up. Music in background too loud but great brief review slots. I have built my dream system and just the Project Debut Evo in red will finish it off so I can show my daughter how records play - she has never seen that 😀 Anyway, it's been many years since I last played vinyl, I have masses and looked after them all and never sold any....so I got all those gems to look forward to hearing again. I'll need to also buy a pre-amp, Cambridge do a great one as recommended by Richer Sounds in England where I always but all my hi-fi and always have. Amp is Cambridge, cd transport is Cambridge and I got a superb pair of Dali floor standing speakers which sounds totally amazing. Can't wait to complete my set up, thanks for this review which reminded me I've chosen well and will buy as soon as I've found the cash. Cheers Josh 👍

Low end turntables often come with strobe light speed check and pitch adjust features so that you can check it is spinning at the right speed and you can correct it when it doesn't. Of course for similar money you can often buy better turntables without these features, and here the makers just want you to trust that they engineered their products so they turn at the right speed consistently.

Every time I hear "burn vinyl to your computer" I cringe. That said, this is a good list. I've had the original Audio Technica AT-LP120 for many years, and after upgrading to a better stylus/cartridge, it still sounds great. I wasn't aware they had a newer iteration with Bluetooth built in. Either way, it's a good entry level turntable that has a pretty good sound quality to price ratio, and a good feature set overall.
@JoshLevineSpeaks
@JoshLevineSpeaks 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Josh, and yes....i cringe too, but it's a "thing" for sure....kind of like scanning all your grandparents photos and family slides on to cloud storage. I love the LP120. AT has always been excellent. I used to be a dealer for them back in the day and they were typically under rated or under appreciated.
@joshdieckmann595
@joshdieckmann595 3 жыл бұрын
@@JoshLevineSpeaks Part of the cringe is because I work in IT, so burning CDs is a thing, but "burning" to a file on a computer just never sounds right :P One thing I will say about the LP-120 is that the stock cartridge, while okay, certainly should be replaced with something a bit higher grade. I couldn't believe how much better bass response I got when I swapped it out. Black Sabbath's "Mob Rules" never sounded so good, among others.

I extensively auditioned and even did take home demos of the Pro-Ject Pro and Evo and the Rega P1 and 2. My conclusion was that one should probably buy one of the above. They're all great. I chose the P2. I found it to be more consistent, clear and free from outside noise than the Pro-Jects, even if the Pro-Jects easily win on features and ease of upgrading. If it fits the budget, definitely go for the bigger brother models though (there's less to want to upgrade later that way). Of note also: None of the cartridges are anything to write home about. Rega getting the performance that they have from a souped-up AT-3600 is impressive and while the Ortofon is better, it will likely be an early upgrade for most buyers who will end up with a Nagaoka mp-110, Denon 103R, Ortofon 2M Blue or higher end Grado Prestige 3 cartridge or something in that bracket.

I bought the P1 about a year ago, I got it to play my late parents records which were such a big part of my childhood. I just wanted a device to play them that would not damage them more than they already were. Many of the records were local groups or no longer available in any form. I wanted to preserve them. When I was young I had a ‘Phase Linear’ linear tracking turntable. It has not worked in a few decades. I am happy with the P1 but if I was to do do it again, I would probably buy a P3. I no longer have the financial means to buy a expensive turntable, or the VPI might be a option.

While the 81 is a very capable and easy to use TT, the RT-85 has the features that only some top of the line model such as the Marantz you mentioned can match.... some features include 3 point adjustable leg, low W&F, heavy acrylic platter and not to mention the Ortofon Blue.

Hi, just my Humble opinon. i have heard many of this turntables. The reloop rp 7000 mk2 have the a very good Direct Drive motor control . High resolution speed control and low wow and flutter (0.05). Just buy a nice set of sorbothane feets or decoupling material and the best cartridge you can and youre done. The technics Mk7 its very good value for the money and surpases by far many of this turntables. But they have the DJ look, that doesnt please many people :D. Belt drives at these price range are not that good as they seen. The ortofon Blue or the Nakaoga MP150 its better than the red and the price difference is not that much. The MP 110 its also a very good option. Just saying. :D. Btw, very nice video for people who love the Hifi realm :D , congratulations!!! Keep up the good work.

I have a 45 year old Bang and Olufsen Beogram 2400 that plays well, it's just beat up and the dust cover couldn't be put back on by the last tech to check it out... A new B&O turntable is over $11,000.00 so I won't be replacing my B&O turntable with another B&O. But what else is comparable to the best turntable I have ever used? I really don't see the need to burn albums on to a hard drive - You Tube Music, Amazon, Pandora or any of the streaming services are going to have a cleaner sound than any but the most pristine vinyl albums.
@JoshLevineSpeaks
@JoshLevineSpeaks 3 жыл бұрын
People seem to like to burn their own vinyl as "its theirs" and it's therapeutic. Plus a great excuse to go down memory lane. Also, several of the albums you may have might be hard to find online. Believe it or not....there are a lot of elusive records still out there "undigitized"....Old B&Os are awesome....i had one for years too...know there prices are INSANE but there's several out there for about 20% the cost that are every bit as good.

I think it is so funny, people always say that lp's sound so great vs. digital, then in the next breathe they say 'and with these wonderful optional features you can put it to usb, bluetooth, thumbdrive, hard drive'.......um wonderful analog sound and as an added benefit you can digitize it? I know I do it, yes you can make it digital and take it with you, where it would be a little hard to get a battery power supply, and carry your turntable and amp and speakers with you.

The best is probably the EVO if I was going to get a new player, But most brand-new turntables are just about the same nowadays--MDF or plastic with a the platter and tonearm not isolated too much from the motor except for some rubber grommets. You can't beat a turntable with spring suspension like a Thorens/AR/Linn or even a belt drive Dual. Sure, more than $500 (except maybe an old Dual) but IMHO a spring suspension table gives so much more of a cleaner sound and isolates it from external and internal vibrations. Also why dust covers should be easily removable or they will just transfer unwanted vibrations to the stylus. Like you said in one of the comments below, the "next generation tables' may incorporate things like spring suspended designs, albeit not revolutionary.
