A designer’s tip: Buy the BEST you can afford. If budget is an issue, source secondhand i.e. FB market, Offerup, eBay, Craigslist and thrift stores for SOLID wood pieces that will stand the test of time. Rushing out to buy a glass and metal TV stand “because it’s cheap” is not a good enough excuse in my design handbook. Agree or disagree?

I totally agree! I had the find of a lifetime thrifting an antique Louis XV Buffet under $150 which now serves as a humble tv stand. I believe it may be 18th century -but most certainly antique and very beloved as this incarnation. It has various random French words penciled inside the drawers, heavy patina and the huge key still works. Love every single thing about its old & bowed character.

Thanks Julie I loved these!! I'm looking for a TV stand currently. I love the tips you gave, with my laptop hooking up to my TV with hdmi and using an antenna for TV sometimes cords can be shown so sometimes cord control can be difficult to obtain- so I really like these options with the drawer/full back to help hide for more of a sleek polished look. Thank you! Looking forward to the next video, I've been watching your feng shui video on repeat having a learning class here in my living room where you teach us about getting the compass and how to map out the space for the colors to use. Thanks for that too. Really appreciate you sharing your videos with us!

Great suggestions Julie! I love the idea of repurposing the bottom half of china cabinets, buffets and dressers. They can be sanded for a raw look, painted or refinished to one’s personal taste. I would love to see suggestions for cedar chests. I have one from the 70’s I just can’t part with. But it doesn’t really go with my current decor.

So, I rewatched this video like a million times and I fell in love with that Reza credenza since I first laid my eyes on it. While the price nearly gave me a heart attack, the mantra that you said always stuck with me is "have items that you love in your home". Thanks Julie for the great video. I was in the market for a media console for months and had no luck finding the perfect one. The ones I did find were in the price range above $1500 for my specific needs. So I ended custom making one myself with the colors I wanted. But not sure whether the style is modern or farmhouse. Either way my wife loves it and she can't wait to start putting all her decor on it.

Hi Julie I could not find what I needed for my 65 inch tv so I had it custom made. And I put it on nice wheels. This is important bc I have moved that monster to do cable work. And I have huge openings for wire work bc I am sick of guiding wires through tiny back holes. Also helps vent heat. It’s solid wood but not thick heavy wood. I put grommets in the top and use that when placing a Laptop on top to watch using an hdmi connection from the lap top to the tv. I had a multi socket outlet placed inside and grommet holes in all the side panels to ease wiring inside. It has drawers and closed cabinets and open top shelves and one tempered glass front door. It’s a pretty useful piece for me. There are a lot of tech things to consider when designing a media console. Some nice choices here but not for me. I’m too picky! You look terrific! 🥰🤗Margaret

Thanks Julie, my only issue is I have a traditional English country style home and I would've liked to have seen some more options that weren't so mid-century modern/contemporary for those of us that don't have that style. OMG! Yes! At 7:10 I bought this exact same "Ansel" console from Home Depot online for $160.00 free to-store shipping versus $275 on Wayfair. It was listed as Tvilum brand, and Not as an Ansel. 68" wide. It is 100% the same unit. I got the Truffle color. It is fantastic, sleek and solid!!! (Also stackable or can place side by side) After that, I found other wayfair and Amazon, pieces of furniture like consoles, tables and shelves under different brand names at home depot for much cheaper! *btw, the solid back drawer walls are lowered so a power-strip can set in a drawer and cables can go out the back panel. I cut my own small hole where I wanted in the back without compromising unit support. One drawer is stuffed with all my cables and power supply/surge protector and tv accessories so the open shelves are clear. And I can open the drawer just fine. !!! Love this one. I also highly recommend the BDI brand consoles if you are an Audiophile but those are $2-3K well worth it though!!! (BDI Corridor SV 7128 slim depth ❤️)

It’s a pity that you didn’t mention the proper height for the console according to the TV size. Waiting for your further info. Thanks! Love your videos ❤️
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu Жыл бұрын
The height has everything to do with where it goes. In the bedroom, the media console may be taller if you’re sitting and watching in bed vs. the living room on a low vs. tall sofa. So that’s a detail that you need to determine for your condition Stephanie

Julie, this is an older video but really helps. Would you consider presenting on how to anchor a space between the types of legs on furniture pieces? Sitting on the floor adds heft and weight, plus nothing falls beneath it. When the piece is anchored against a wall- I like it to have some weight. Furnishings floating in the room can have legs to all the room to breathe. Hope that helps Virginia! Thank you for watching 🩷

The only thing I would add is to make sure the remotes can work with the doors closed, and without rattles, if you are planning on a home theater setup. If the remote can't reach the equipment, then you have to deal with open doors, and if you're watching Dune, the doors will rattle when open. Other than that, if you have a screen over 55" be prepared to remove the legs to get the screen to eye level for best picture.

Thanks Julie! I am looking for a t.v. stand! I like the IKEA stand. Although the selections you showed are for a more modern space, but I think some may work. I just might have to chose a different finish. What are your thoughts on whether or not to mount the t.v. above a fireplace. I am debating doing that. I just don't want to drill holes in my pretty red brick which has colored grout. For now I use a stand, but it puts the t.v. off center whereas the fireplace is centered In the room...easier for t.v. viewing. Maybe an art picture t.v. with art frame?(don't know the correct name for these) 😊

If you’re a long time follower of the channel, you’ll know I consider it a huge mistake to mount the TV above the fireplace for ergonomic issues Ida. @@JulieKhuu Thanks! I have not followed that long. But I like the suggestion for the framed one. I have a skinny 10 ft. Deep By 20 ft long living room so to have one above the fireplace works better, but I don't like it. I currently use a stand. It takes up more floor space and makes one end cramped. But thanks for the suggestion. I do have an inset space next to the fireplace I could put a cabinet there. Just can't view the t.v. from there so it juts out into the space. Right now the furniture is placed so they face the fireplace and works well for flow and conversation. 😊

Great video with lovely suggestions!! I ordered from one of the merchants you showcased. After 30 days theres still no information of delivery. They want to be paid in full but no communication. My fault for not reading Frances & Sons reviews which were horrid especially the 2023 complaints from Better Business Bureau 😳

Sorry if folks have asked this before but how do you get remote controls to work inside closed cabinets? Nearly everyone has a cable box that’s the target of remotes. That’s why people buy open stuff, no? Or - serious question!- are you suggesting we open the doors on the rare (🤣🤣🤣) occasions we’re using our TVs, gaming systems, etc.?
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu Жыл бұрын
You may simply leave the cable box on top of the console and mount the TV Alex. My boxes are wireless, so I actually have them hidden in a corner of my husband’s office. Of course if this doesn’t work for you, specify the consoles that have a little cutout for the cable box. Do what works for you!

I'm looking for something really functional for AV receivers, amplifiers, game consoles and center channel speakers. Most consoles are not really functional for housing AV receivers within them as they are too shallow/not deep enough from front to back. Many also do not focus on ventilation. Would appreciate a list that caters to such equipment.

Thanks for your suggestions but I think you over-emphasized style while missing the point of a media console, which is to hold media equipment such as cable box, A/V receiver or stereo amp, DVD player, streaming Music player, etc. Especially important: consider depth of your receiver. One of mine is 18.5 inches so I’d need a media console into which it would fit … and would need to ensure there’s space behind the device for cables, so we’re talking maybe 21 inches or even 22 inches. Since it’s difficult to find units this deep, the search for one is very difficult. If you can help with that, it would be great.
@JulieKhuu
@JulieKhuu 2 ай бұрын
I would source a deep dresser in this case. You can find fabulous ones with a top cutout for oversized media equipment. You did the work to measure all inventory, now try searching “dressers” instead of media consoles. Good luck!

@JulieKhuu ~If you want to appeal to the techies in the household, mention the textured fabric on the front like you did, but mention the airflow capability for the techies setting up the electronics in them. Us techies & the new trend now is better layouts tend to focus on airflow for electronics, dust protection for electronics, and the cable management holes placement for good invisible cabling & ease of use. Fabric is a go to for us because it improves airflow for cooling down electronics & some dust blocking.

Your calculations appear to be off. You calculated the stands width using the diagonal width of the TV and not the horizontal width like you said to use. 32" TV (29" width) = 29 x 1.33 = 38.57” console 42" TV (36" width) = 36 x 1.33 = 47.88” console 55" TV (50" width) = 50 x 1.33 = 66.5” console 65〞 TV (57.5” wiath) = 57.5 x 1.33 = 76.475” console 75" TV (66" width) = 66 x 1.33 = 87.78” console Please correct me if I miss understood.. thank you
