Jessie. I am looking at investing in crypto and do not want to upset the tax authorities. I am a dual citizen. Koinly free version allows you to buy two tax reports. UK and USA are covered. Maybe if you trade to a point where you have to buy a plan, the multiple option might disappear. I don't know.... Koinly forums complain about Binance tracking through API. I was wondering if you found this to be an issue?

Koinly seems to be having problems sync with coinbase at the moment....my first try with it and it failed ... OK next

Hi. Do all the software give you the £ or GBP option to see trades that might have been done with USD but converts it into GBP? Thanks I think that's important for UK tax payers. HMRC require trades to be converted to GBP to pay the tax.
@jesseinvesting87952 жыл бұрын
Hi, I believe so!
@goldengoose49852 жыл бұрын
Jessie, I have a question regarding tax if you can help. I understand all the rules about capital gains and bed & breakfast etc. But if you buy a coin eg USDC and swap for an alt coin. I think its then classed as income tax not CG tax. So I want to stake my alt coins also, so is this all classed as income tax? thats if you know. So would need to do self assessment tax return. Also do you know if the Koinly app recognizes that its income tax payable and sorts it all out when working out your gains?
@stevecoinitin75213 жыл бұрын
Excellent video Jesse. Can you please explain.....I work fulltime, earning £20k, so is the £12,300 Capital Gains bit on top of my tax code allowance, or is it the same thing? I've done hundreds of small trades, upto $50 a time, a few were same coin, same day buy/convert buy/convert! Am doing less trades now I've learnt more. Where do I stand as to what type of Crypto tax I need to pay? I have lost around $30 so far since May 2021. Am thinking of getting Crypto tax calculator software.
@vernonweatherhead56023 жыл бұрын
You pay Income tax on your £20k salary, you pay Capital Gains Tax on your crypto trading with a £12,300 allowance which is completely separate. If you are not making a profit over £12,300 in a year you don't pay any CGT. If you lose $30 in a year you don't need any Tax software...

Very informative video! Thank you. Quick question, do any of these services allow you to backwards track your activity? Say for example I sign up to one of them now and connect all my exchanges… will they be able to create a tax report on my previous activities or is it only from the point at which your sign up…? Hope that makes sense

Which package did you go for?
@michaell88352 жыл бұрын
@@brianhamilton4635 I went for koinly, and very impressed with it. Managed to handle the various exchanges, some I had to import manually, some more automatic. Really good at pulling historic data together, matching up transfers, and alerting if something doesn’t stack up (eg missing data). Turned out to be a great aid in getting everything ready for handover to my accountant. Only issue I did have was servers going very slow, but that seems to be due to everyone doing tax returns at last minute. Hopefully I’ll learn from that, and process ahead of deadline next time.

Thanks. Which app can look into transactions retrospectively for 1-2years also for UK. Is there an app which can calculate stock shares tax too (etoro, freetrade) in addition to crypto ? Thanks

Great video, thank you....I joined Kionly...may I ask when it calculates the gains...does it take into the account the fees charged by coin vase/pro? or we need to calculate it manually
@jesseinvesting87953 жыл бұрын
It calculates the gains as and when you need. You’ll need to click refresh in the wallets section 👍🏽 And it should already take into account fees charged by an exchange

Dear Jesse, is day crypo trading (thousands of transactions a year) subject to income tax or capital gain tax in the UK?
@michaell88353 жыл бұрын
My understanding, from reading the help pages on Koinly, is that you'd be classed as a 'private investor' day trader, and hence subject to capital gains tax on gains, due to the level of activity. The next level down with HMRC would be 'speculator' I think it was referred to, but only likely if a few transactions.

Agree. I am having trouble with errors using Koinly. It changes previous years CGT. Previous years crypto transactions have nothing to do with this years transactions. It should be now ignoring last year. The figures keep changing hence can’t inform UK Gov. Of the correct figure
