Have you tried the Ulanzi power bank sticks they are threaded top and bottom so you can mount the camera directly onto to the power bank or add it to a selfie stickgimbal which I do quite often, especially on a mini/full size tripod. I have the smaller BG-2 which is 6800mAh power bank which is very small and weighs 271 grams. I just ordered the BG-3 which is 10000mAh and has 2 output ports one of which can do fast charge.

I purchased the pixy mini and tried using it without the GoPro battery: however my GoPro 11 says no battery and shuts down. I even tried pro labs using tsub=1 command and still doesn’t work. Do you have any suggestions?

Yes. The battery is the main cause of Gopros overheating. You can shoot for hours using this method and your Gopro will not even get warm

For using on a bike, small is of course ideal. There is another one I have used recently that I really like as well. It’s this one: amzn.to/3vwpmOK It has a display so you can see exactly how much charge is left, how much is being used, etc while still being relatively small (weighs less than 300g) and isn’t too bulky.

Curious how oft does your GoPro 'not start' powered only by powerbank... I found that you really need a hefty powerbank, and then still, it will not 'fire' saying that there isn't enough current... I found it very buggy (I remove the battery of GoPro mostly due to the heat, in a studio, the GoPro10 will overheat in 10 minutes or so... annoying)

I have only had this happen a few times. When it does I disconnect the power bank, hit the power button on it and then reconnect the power bank. This usually does the trick.

When I power my Hero11 with a USB Power Bank it records around 35 minutes of footage then it powers down, complaining it's too hot. The metal fixtures underneath the case are too hot to touch at this point. What am I doing wrong?

ah - you see if you leave the battery in it will go through the battery in the same way. Now with go pro 11 and 12 I think the camera wont work without the battery in (they did it to stop external power banks.) Ideally a go pro 9 with a battery (you can buy them) that allows access to the usb port which allows you to fit a power bank... BUT it wont be waterproof..!

With my Hero 12 I am able to power it without the battery inserted. So it may be worth trying that.

You mentioned that it provides enough battery and amperage for the GoPro to be powered, but you are using the Labs firmware to bypass the power check? Wouldn't that mean it isn't reporting the correct power needed for the GoPro?

With the bat inside it gets damn hot and the battery swells, had to throw 3 in the bin, without it, it can lady 10 hrs with a 512GB card and never gets hot…I use npf batteries.

Yup, Velcro could be used for this as well but I have found Velcro and the adhesive that holds it to not hold up so well. So I use rubber bands, but if Velcro is what you prefer then great. Lots of different options for securing the Pixy Mini.

Velcro would be a great use case on the gimbal but I likely wouldn’t be able to on the Volta or bottom of the GoPro as it would block the legs from being unfolded.

Yup. I use and recommend the SanDisk Extreme 512GB MicroSD card in mine.

I don’t typically record continuously because there is rarely a good reason to do so but I have done some recordings of entire hikes before and the GoPro has served me well with no issues of overheating when recording in 5.3K or 4K continuously for more than an hour.
