BEST VALUE EDC FIXED BLADE? ESEE IZULA S35VN TEST & REVIEW

Esee used S35VN on a small fixed blade simply because not everyone uses their small fixed blades in the same way. If one want so beat on their knives needlessly, they offer 1095. For the rest of us that use our knives for more mundane everyday tasks, and/or don't want to deal with the corrosion issues, we have the S35VN version. I have and enjoy both for what they are designed to do. More options are a good thing, even if some idiots like to complain about anything...

Went with two 1095 izulas for my wife and I for our first do it all EDC fixed blades. We live rural enough to need a survival capable blade, but don't leave town enough to justify a dedicated large bushcraft knife. The small package and cute colors make them less intimidating too if we need to whip it out in mixed company. She currently has hers on an 800 mile thru hike. She must be finding a use for it since she didn't send it back when she lightened her pack. I'm a folding knife fidget freak and have only ever been bitten bad by a knife twice and both times it was that ant. Such a surprisingly sharp edge I didn't even feel either wound until it was leaking down my hand. Haven't slipped since I added OEM scales so I think I just wasn't getting a safe grip with the paracord wrap. Safer grip is worth the money and weight cost!

Great knife! I have two, one in black oxide 1095, and one in S35VN. I HIGHLY recommend the micarta scales from TKC over the Esee scales. Much better contour/fit?finish, IMO, and feels and looks great! My favorite EDC of all time.

Nice! Two of my favorite things combined. My knife therapy session and the Izula. I have carried my Izula II on my belt (appendix carry) in an Armatus sheath for well over three years. PEACE ✌

That would be cool. You can get extended scales from the knife connection though. That’s what I have on mine and it makes the handle about the same length as the Izula 2.

Just get the TKC extended scales for the original Izula in S35VN and it’ll make it the same length as the Izula II

Fantasy knife owners crying about S35vn steel on a couple inch blade because they think it's going to shatter when they have to build a log cabin in a survival situation! 🤣😂 This logic is like buying a Toyota Corolla and being pissed about not being able to tow your 30 foot fifth wheel with it. Use the right tool for the job.

Esse Izula, Bradford Guardian 3 and SRK LeBlanc are my 3 favorite fixed blades. The SPK Shark is an honorable mention.

S35VN is a fine steel for the purpose, still easy enough to touch up, takes a screaming sharp edge (I sharpen. S35VN is impressive in this regard. I've never BESS tested it, but I expect it to outscore a lot of other popular steels.) and maintains a level of toughness at their #rockwizzlefoshizzle targets that is perfectly acceptable for the type of knives they are selling. Having said all that, I think ESEE desperately needs to switch to Magnacut for everything, and start grinding a bit thinner edges.

Magnacut + ESEE + Thinner edges = Mind Blowing, it would be awesome, all 3 knives I have in Magnacut have incredibly impressed me especially being a stainless steel. I’m currently doing extensive testing on some now 👌

They won’t go full on Magnacut, that’s for sure. They already talked about it on Twitter. They will wait out the hype to wear off and will test if it makes sense for them. I would love a thinner esee 3 and esee 6 with the HM and Magnacut or even s35vn. They are still too thick and don’t like the standard handle and choil.

If you're looking for something similar with the blade geometry you spoke of in the beginning, the ESEE Xancudo is a perfect choice.

You took the words out of my mouth. I want an Izula 2 in S35VN as well as an Esse CR 2.5. Rumor has it that they are going to have a slightly updated Version of the CR2.5 being the CR30 in S45VN at 3” blade. Money is ready.

Love my ESEE Izula in D2 steel,..no other fixed blade will do after owning this rugged little knife!! Not even the Benchmade Canyon Hunter in S90v steel,...I'd know because I own both but prefer my Izula to the Benchmade!!

Really looking at an Esse to have as a river knife so the addition of stainless to their knife line is a nice push to get me over the line. Very humid where I live and it's a must have for me.

Thinking between this and the backpacker pro… what would you recommend? In general I like the backpacker more, however am concerned that it may not stand to slight batoning if needed. What would you suggest? Thanks!

You can get a LTWK Frontier First in A2 for 70 or a Patriot 3V for 110. I think they run them in AEB-L in case you have to have SS. Just another option, great company and also great warranty.

Dude I’m an EDC fixed blade guy. I rarely see videos that address my situation. I live in Mississippi with lil to no knife laws except daggers and dirks (really). I have an Izula in 1095. I hate the traction coat so I used good ole cold blue soln. I think Esee has problems with the S35vn in major bushcraft/survival situation vs 1095 but that is the Esee 3/4. Batoning knotty wood you go with the old 1095. I love the izula in S35vn though

I just got my Esse Izula sVN35 and I have to say I'm disappointed with how dull the blade is. Function wise it's good, small, compact, and discreet, but I'll have to re-profile the blade on a wet stone because standard honing rod ceramic or steel has no effect on how dull this thing is.

ESEE doesn't release anything until they're sure they have gotten it right. It's aggravating sometimes, but the wait is usually worth it.

Backpacker is my all time favorite hands down, it has out shinned all my edc fixed blades so far and the only ones that may give it competition are my Bark River Gunny edc and a couple of my customs but I’m not counting them because they are more expensive plus they have custom heat treats on them 👌the ESEE just has a way better warranty however I rather performance and the little extra length in the Backpacker 🍻🍻

@@Stassa23 I just use small fix blades in the woods so the Izula is perfect in that regard, I have a bark river mini aurora and a bravo necker in 154 but I always return to my 10 year old ESEE Izula in 1095. it’s the simple design that is perfect for my small hands and the blade length is all I need for bushcrafting if I pair it with my Gränsfors Outdoor axe and a good silky. I will order a new izula in s35vn because I really want a stainless edc version of my beloved Bushcraft blade and German knife laws are 100% pro fixeblades. I also saw that the msrp is 122$ anyways so inflation is the reason why it’s so expensive and we won’t get it for so cheap in the future. You lucky one ;) 💪

What is the best warranty in the Industrie if you don’t get any replacements because they aren’t able to build the knifes as they said… I waited for a month on my S35vn Izula and the it seems that they aren’t any knives coming soon, while I can get other S35Vn all day long… I canceled my order of the Izula and will get a Backpacker pro instead, white river can at least produce knives at the moment as it seems… so if you break your esee I don’t know if they are able to replace a knife they cannot produce…

@@DoomOfConviction i absolutely love my backpacker pro and I would hands down choose it over the Izula it’s a way better slicer it looks better comes with a really good kydex sheath it’s a no brainer. The Bradford Guardian 3 is also an awesome one if you haven’t checked it out yet 👌
