UPDATE: BPS Knives are back! Since Kyiv is no longer being advanced on they've gotten back to work and are making awesome knives again!
When it comes to knives, a line can be drawn to separate the industrialized, cookie-cutter perfect, mostly machine-made knives and the unique, human charm of hand-made knives. Usually budget knives are mostly machine-made, but @BPSKnives, from Brovary, Ukraine have been making a strong value proposition for years for Hand-made knives that can rival the value of established brands like ‪@MoraknivOfficial‬ while keeping the charm and soul of hand-made products. They also understand one thing that many other manufacturers seem to compromise in, cutting performance... but how? Why? well, watch the video to find out, you silly goose.

Greetings from BC Canada! I commend you on this thorough and well balanced appraisal of BPS Knives. I totally concur with your explanation of how the blade was chipped under lateral forces when striking the knot, when considering the physics of this incident it is would be a classic outcome with a zero grind on a thinner blade. Yes, steel categorizations can get confusing between one country and another. This may well be akin to 5160 'spring' steel similar to that found in truck leaf springs. I also heard that one commentator thought it may be 80CRV2, which I have made a few knives from and have found to be tough. In reality it would be very bad practice to baton a knife with a huge mallet through sizeable knots, this might rightfully be described as very inefficient processing of kindling. I also extent my gratitude to you for standing up against the unjustified intrusion into Ukraine and criminal act of destroying infrastructure and innocent lives, let alone breaching every convention of war (even if war was justified, this not being the case). My wife and I have been instrumental in helping Ukrainians get out of Ukraine using the provisions of Canadian Immigration Laws. I think we are over 10 families so far and likely more to come. Every Blessing Friend, WS

Okay, I've had my BS1FTS knife for about two weeks now, and its not a bad little knife, except. First time I used it to cut a chicken leg off of a chicken thigh, the edge rolled. Not a huge problem, I have a Ken Onion Work Sharp. I think it was just over sharpened. Second, sheath was a bit tight, so I treated it with Boiled Linseed Oil, now the knife fits perfect. Lastly, I took the handle scales off yesterday, the 14th, you will need a metric Allan wrench. And I found Rust under the handle scales. I took a sanding sponge, and cleaned that up. So if you have any of the BPS knives, please, take the handle scales off, and check for rust.

have you seen the tang without the handle scales? It does make me giggle a little. But yeah, they simplified the companion a ton and arguably made it better for hard use.

I have the bps hk5 and have resharpend the edge on a harbor freight combination stone then finished it off with a barbers razor hone. The fresh steel underneath is much stronger, the factory edge is okay but temper is severely affected by heat of the sharpening process they use ie belt grinders. BTW the steel is Gost 65g structural spring steel. I personally use my svord vtb bowie for batoning, hedge apple and ironwood knots are no sweat for that knife.
@JustCantGetRight
@JustCantGetRight 2 жыл бұрын
Yup on the steel, I did point it out in the video :D in terms of batoning with the Svord Bowie vs the HK5, that knaf is thiccccc (1 c for each mm), I'd expect it to eat up anything. I wouldn't take it backpacking though, lol, that's a lot of weight!

I haven't tried any Extrema Ratio knives but I know who they are and they're impressive from what I've seen. I'm sure you've seen the DBK video on one of them, i'd 100% take it for what it is. In terms of the force... I haven't even seen one in the wild yet :'(

did you mention why one should stick with their carbon steel instead of stainless? I didn't catch it.
@JustCantGetRight
@JustCantGetRight Жыл бұрын
Their Stainless is 5cr13mov. This steel is actually really good for food processing, but for outdoor use, their 65h/1066 outperforms it in every way but corrosion resistance by a lot. Not that their Stainless is bad, it performs as expected for the price, but it's just that their carbon exceeds expectations.

The BPS 1066 B1 Bushcraft knife has the highest HRC out of the whole lineup @ 59-60 HRC👍. It's probably not as tuff as the other BPS offerings, but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to do for the application I'm using it for. It's constantly outperforming my American large batch in-house conveyor belt inferior heat treatment 1095🤷. Yeah yeah I know it shouldn't be, "on paper" 1095 has better Edge retention 🙄. Who would have thought when you pay more attention to a heat treatment process you get better results 🤷😉😂. For a few years I have been telling everyone in the knife community about the tremendous value in the BPS lineup. Even with recent Amazon price increases it's still a no brainer in my book 🤷. The B1 is now $34.99 on Amazon when I bought it was $28.00 I would gladly pay $34.99 for it any day of the week 👍.

@JustCantGetRight

Unless you already have a sheath for it, the Jaakaripuukko is double the price and uses a steel that cuts for longer and holds its edge better, 80CrV2, 65Г has a tougher blade though.
