I know my endorsement doesn’t mean squat, but I’ve been carrying a cold steel AD-10 for several years, and it has held up really well. I’m a truck mechanic, and my hobby is bushcraft, I regularly use the AD-10 for both tasks. Plus it doesn’t look out of place when I take the family out to dinner at a nice restaurant.

@@luisloya1120 G'day Luis, yep, the Robust is probably the best value all rounder for it's size on the market. I'd love one in stainless for my climate though : ( I must give an honorable mention to the Pro "S", what a great little worker around the house. No rust spots yet after several years and the thinner blade stock gives it that little more slicing utility. Jaakripuuko was what jumped out when I read the title. Another bonus of this knife is that because its so cheap and utilitarian looking, you are not afraid to really push it to its limits which adds aditional use. I have a wonderful Spyderco Bushcraft(which you NEED to review one day.) and honestly know I would hesitate to do the prying I would with the Jaakaripuuko. Lionsteel have excellent value for money. Especially now they're running steels like K490 & 3V in their fixed blades. (got a T6 in K490 coming) The new T6 will be in 3V after the first run of K490 is gone so not to worry if you miss out on the first batch. From my experience their heat treat is great (fixed blades) T5 in niolox has been my go to again over the last 6 months. Even their handle materials are better than other brands, specifically their micarta. (T5) It is like G10 in toughness & density, but with the feel of micarta. It has so many layers that are super dense/compact. The T5 is worth buying for the handle alone. Integral (is that the right word?) handle, milled from one piece of very high quality micarta, same as the T6. Not even my favourite brand tbh but if I could only keep & buy from a single brand it would be lionsteel due to their quality vs cost. (or survive knives) Love bark river but my last 4 knives have been absolute dog 💩. Uneven grinds & handles. £300 plus after importing them here. Bark river are not even close to worth the money anymore. Good steels but terrible fit & finish/quality & it seems to be getting worse. I am done with them until I hear the quality has significantly improved. Unfortunately people buy them regardless of the dwindling quality (they literally can't keep up with demand) so they have no reason to improve.

@@tomasmikenda6139 Yeah the knives&tools M5 is excellent with the 3V steel. But the T5 is still my favourite because of the handle. Is your M5 in micarta? Seriously check the shere amount of layers on lionsteels micarta & how compressed/dense they are. & compare it to any other micarta. Not even close. Only just noticed the other day, can't believe I never saw it before. Unless I got a randomly super dense batch of micarta.

The problem with the steels your talking about is they take forever to put a edge on. Imagine if you chip your edge. Fancy steels are nice but usually extremely hard to sharpen. When everything is done correctly simple steels will do everything super steels do. The edge isn't has big a difference unless it's putting a edge back on it. 80cv will hold with anything out there.

I used my Bark river Fox river as an EDC for close to three years now ,was lucky enough to work at an outdoor store/gun range that the owners didn't really care what knife we carried each day, and I have to say that's what sold me on 3V steel it stayed sharp for months and as a hunting and fishing knife the convex profile glides when going through meat and feather sticks like a champ carving and wood work its pretty decent too, I grew up in a family of Buck knife lovers and I'll admit the 112 folder is great at skinning but fails in the kitchen and in the bush because it dulls to quickly even when processing game you have to be cautious when prying joints or even how much your touching the bones with the edge I've never had to be that careful with the Fox river . The long and short of it is I'll probably be using a Bark river Fox river the rest of my life and be quite happy doing so as it's easily my favorite knife I own out of the around 20 outdoor knives I own second place gose to the Bark river Bravo 1.5 being a great survival knife then third going to my falkniven A2 just because it's huge and is fun to show people as most have never seen a knife that big 😆😆

Super slicer, good for food prep, but also good with wood, nice for featherstick, batoning. Judt a great allrounder. Not cheap, I grant you that. Jääkäripuukko is awesome, my friend has it and I have had a change to use it. My go to camp knife is Peltonen Sissipuukko M95. It was the influence for jääkäripuukko. Also with the same steel. A super knife. Cheers from Finland!

The Lionsteel M1 is a great choice too if you want a folder sized (kind of) fixed blade, in M390, and for a mid-sized blade, a bit shorter than the A1 or Bravo 1.5, and for a good price, could be the Manly Eagle in CPM 154, I got it on the way but you guys maybe would like it. The leather is genuine. The only thing I could ask for that it doesn't have is that you can't remove the jaakari sheath from it unless you rip the sticking, imo it would've been cool to have a system where it can be like clipped on and off. Basically an impossible question. But weighing in if you could only own one knife in 2022 that has to do both city EDC and outdoor use like hiking, bushcraft, canoeing, rafting, survival, etc. there are small fixed blade options. The size of a folder but strength of a fixed blade. The Fallkniven R2 Scout comes to mind if budget is no problem. The Varestuleka mini puukko (85) or mini skrama (looks less offensive) when more on a budget and not in wet climates a lot.

have you ever tryed the united cutlery bushmaster? it's cheap 40€ but is good, is 1095 steel, wood handle and you can do all with. ok is not an aurora in magnacut, but is nice for the price.

My jaakkaripuuko blunted very quickly, so did my B.R Aurora 3v and despite hours of effort stubbornly refuses to sharpen. If it was down to a 'One Only' knife I would urge buying the Garberg. Affordable, available! strong, does the job, and comes sharp and easily re sharpened.

I definitely want to try the Trc apocalypse it’s just so expensive it’s unreachable for me but I use a fixed blade everyday I feel it would be worth the money maybe one day they will come down a little or my earnings will go up and we will meet

Hi DBK guys, I think I've found my one and only one Grail knife ! It is the White River Knives M1 Backpacker Pro Magnacut, Green G10, Limited Edition. Best steel out there, easy to carry even on a daily office work basis, with an awesome grip and a very efficient all around blade.

Have you guys tried any of the Bradford guardian series? If not I would love to see you test a Bradford guardian 5.5 in 3v & they use Peters heat treat to 60/61 hrc & there $250! I was amazed to get such a good knife at that price

Hey dbk, unrelated to the video comment here. I have been a knife guy for years, but recently got into Balisong knives. I picked up a Benchmade 85 TI for my birthday and I was hooked. I started looking more into these types of knives and everyone says how mechanically, these knives have the strongest lock type. Especially channeled handles. I was the guy that asked you guys for years to dip into folders. It would be something new and different for the channel to at least try out let alone test a Balisong. I know the channel started and still is primarily about fixed blades for bushcraft, but as a knife channel, we love to see your thoughts on oddballs, like folders. Now, if I may suggest Balisongs as the next oddball knife type to look at.

If it were one knife to do it all and had to count on in the toughest of time I know it’s huge and it’s not super steel but I would have to go with bk9 it’s just that it’s tough and big enough to use as a chopper even a draw knife it’s still a beast even though mines main job is living next to the wood stove to make kindling

The K Bar BK2 actually performed poorly in extreme destruction test compared to other knives ( “joe x” channel for example). Extreme destruction test are not what you would realistically use the knife for but it’s some data to consider. The stainless Mora Garberg on the other hand (surprisingly) performed very well.

About 10 years ago I bought a knife at the dutch scoutshop website. I think it was the bear grylls knife. And I remember there being a short video in the description with two guys who have the same kind of energy as you have. Was it a proto dutch bushcraft video?

Soak the carbon steel jaakaripuuko in vinegar for a few hours. The silver part turns black with a durable patina. I used a 6% vinegar. Then I waxed it with Johnson Paste wax. No rust and a kickass black patina that's been durable. Love that knife so much I bought the longer one too.

Terävä Jääkäripuukko keeps surfacing in the conversation... and for me... These rank in a top 3 to top 5 in highest value to quality ratio. Importantly reliability/dependability, performance, ergos/handiness, and overall quality of the knives priced w/ outstanding sheath package are all considerations worthy of top selection.

Agree on the Bark River issue which were brought up by you guys. Canceled all my 10 pre orders because I received knives with really nasty uneven grinds. In that price range not acceptable. As Mike Stewart says...they are producing so many knives right now like the have never done before...for the cost of quality. That hurts...and I'm saying this as a former big fan of BRKT.

I have a bark river jx6 in elmax that chips big pieces off edge almost everytime I use it and build quality is rough. I also have a bark river bravo edc in cpm3v that is quite simply the perfect edc knife. When you get a good one they are damn good but yeah they cost alot for a gamble on quality.

G'day mate, that's a real shame to hear. I got my Bravo 1.5 in S35 some years ago, no probs, clean as a whistle and just about the perfect 6 incher for my use and climate. But I agree, as probably my most expensive knife, I wouldn't be wanting anything substandard. I guess with so many fantastic designs, options and demand, it's not particularly surprising something had to give. Doesn't help you right now, but I can only hope they get back on track sooner rather than later. Cheers Duke.

Folding knife, I would always choose my okc rat-1 folder. Fixed blade, my condor bushlore. Neither are painful to replace, both easy to sharpen quickly, both solid as a rock. I will always own much more expensive knives for fun, but I know those knives are forever knives.
