Best Video Settings for Leica SL2-S

Love the Leica, SL2-S video, content! Just bought one a few months back and let me tell you, that ProRes raw is super underrated.

Do you enjoy using the SL2 alongside the SL2S? Thinking about adding one of the two to my kit - already own an SL2S. Only plus I see of adding an SL2 over an SL2S is the higher megapixels on the SL2.

I love it, I was in the same boat and went for the sl2 over the sl2s because of the higher mp count. Thankful I did, I end up using both way more instead of having a second sl2s that would sit until I needed two cameras at once

Question about lenses for autofocus: Have you tried adapting Canon lenses to the Leica SL2-s? I feel like mine hunts too much when just doing sit down interviews. I'm wondering if L mount Sigma lenses would work better for interview style stuff (i.e. be more reliable for simple autofocus)?

I have not tried that! I would doubt that adapted lenses would perform better than native lenses though, unfortunately

Hi Lukas - Thanks for sharing. I have 2 quick questions: 1 - @4.14 you say that you use zebras for highlights ... but I don't see the setting in the menu. I assume you were probably referring to the waveform display option. Can you please clarify? 2 - You say that you primarily use 4K/ 23.98/All-I/400Mbps/4.2.2./10bit......have you found that it's notably better than the 4K/24 fps/L-GOP/150Mbps/4.2.2/10bit? I realize that it's capturing more data, but does it actually produce better output or simply gives you more latitude in post?

Hey thanks for the questions! 1 - if you go into the 5th page of settings (when in video mode) and find “camera settings” the top option is “capture assistants” click that, the go down to the bottom and click settings, in each of the 4 options you’re able to add peaking/highlights to it. I have an older video on my page walking through this process. 2 - primarily gives more latitude in the edit! Hope this helps

@@lukasvanderlende Hey Lukas - I checked my settings and the zebras setting was already on, but wasn't displaying regardless of the over-exposure. After doing a bit of investigating, I found that the zebras do not display in all cases - notably, they don't appear to work when recording MOV format but seem to fully functional on MP4. There is a Leica forum post I found that goes into this in a bit more detail if you do a quick search.

Depends, I have the dji lav mics, shotgun mics and my shure sm7b. Just depends on what’s needed

I've had my SL2S for a while now but really haven't tried it with video. Tried it for live-streaming and it looked like garbage, but I feel like I need to give it another go.

Interesting you say 800 ASA, on the SL2, I’ve found 3200 cleans up significantly. And my understanding is the sensor has been modified to be ISO invariant up to 1250 (I think). So as long as you properly expose you should get an equally clean image anywhere from 400-1250. Interestingly enough, the Sony cameras that have the second gain at 3200, have a base iso of 800. So it’s logical it would have the same or similar gain curve but who knows😂
