I tried the SL2-s with the 24-70 first and it was fine. Everything you'd expect coming from pro bodies. I then borrowed the camera with the 35 SL lens, it started to feel a lot more like a real camera, not just a tool - then I bought the 35mm Summicron M lens and adapter... what a combo! Using M lenses just makes so much sense. I see a few more M lenses in my near future! Great Video!

Mr. Rains, that was such a joy to watch. You can tell how passionate you are about the SL-System and Leica in general. I just bought my SL (601) and some R and M Lenses.

My favorite setup is: 1. M10R + M lenses 2. SL3 + M lenses 3. SL3 + Sigma lenses I prefer to “invest” in M lenses and buy the Sigma for autofocus which are lenses I only use when I go on vacation as it is family friendly ;-) lol

Great info in this vid. The kind of info that one interested in investing into the Leica eco system would want to know. Thank you. Cuba ( B&W ) photos surprise me. Most I see are so in color. I guess that 18mm lens doubled in price on the used market when it was discontinued!

I'd love some coverage and information on the TL2 and CL with M lenses. Are the sensors adjusted for M lenses like the SL and M cameras? Especially with wider focal lengths since the crop factor comes into play. Thanks :)

Hahaha the M10 is about 660g and the SL2 is over 830g. You'd be surprised how different it feels in the hand, especially over time. Not a problem if you're used to heavy DSLR's, but the weight drags a bit if you're used to M bodies.

Hi Nick, Dave Hancock in Darwin - I purchased the Q2 as a carry and have enjoyed the files. I am thinking of going to the SL. These days I am doing more and more books as well as commercial and some editorial. Do you think the SL2s files are big enough for a double page spread in a fair sized book? Or will I need the SL2 - particularly for aerials. Cheers, DH

I'm using R and M lenses on my SL2-s, and while the experience is great, one thing I terribly miss is AEL. I wish I could customise a button for that, even the joystick (and use some other button for magnification), but it's simply not possible. I hope this feature gets added at some stage during firmware update. Even Panasonic supports this with M lenses, but not Leica.

Have you noticed any anomalies using the SL2 with a Summilux M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH? With f/1.4 manually selected and adjusting the shutter speed so that the exposure dial shows zero, in playback it does not show f/1.4 rather tending towards for example f/2.0. Have tried using M and A modes and all three Exposure settings.

@@johnjury7316 There is a small sensor on the front of the SL2 and SL2-S bodies that measures the light levels - top right as you look at the front. Then it makes a best guess as to what the set aperture was. It's usually pretty close.

@Leica Camera: Please answer me the following: is the sensor stack thickness and microlens arrangement in the SL2 the same or at least very similar as in the M 10-R for example?
@chesslover88292 жыл бұрын
See "Panasonic S1R vs Leica SL2: Sensor Cover Glass Thickness vs Performance for Leica M Lenses, L-Mount Lenses" at diglloyd. Depending on the focal length and maximum aperture of an M-mount lens, as well as the distance of the lens's exit puil from the sensor stack, each M-mount lens (from Leica, Voigtländer, or Zeiss) may produce excellent or suboptimal results when used on a Leica SL2 camera. When an M-mount lens performs suboptimally, image corners may show coma, astigmatism, color shift, and/or reduced sharpness. Why? Variations in the camera's filter stack thickness can affect lens performance. (Note that it's unclear whether the filter stack thickness is the same for both Leica M rangefinders and SL cameras.) The only way to know for sure whether an M-mount lens will produce excellent results is to rent and then test the Leica SL2 camera along with the M-mount lens or lenses to be used.

@@chesslover8829 Thanks for sharing this - diglloyd is not accessible for free with most articles. I am well aware about this information since I adapted M-lenses to Sony E-mount cameras where this all is well described. After I posted this comment last year, more information came out that the sensor design between both cameras (M10-R and SL2) is not the same. Not all M-lenses work well on the SL2 - I agree with you that the only way to make sure is checking via Google for compatibility and then simply trying.

@@MB-or8js Some professional photographers have reported issues after adapting some M-lenses to a Sony E-mount camera. I have not read any issues with the Leica SL2. Other photographers have adapted M-lenses to their Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras with no problems.

If anyone has a Z series Nikon, the M lenses work well on them also. My 1986 21 2.8 has been in a drawer for decades, but I retried it on M10R and pics were wonderful. Yesterday it adapted to my Z6 2 and it is lovely. Nikon are far cheaper and I have made comparison photos to M10R and Z6 2 same time, place, & lens, and I can not separate them.

If you only want to spend a fraction of what the Leica stuff costs, you can also use a Sony A ... and Minolta lenses and cameras.
@MB-or8js3 жыл бұрын
Partially, yes. But the much thicker sensor stack of Sony MLCs give often trouble in the corners of the frame with wider M-mount lenses. It works well with lenses 50 mm and above. (D)SLR lenses are always working well on Sony MLCs.

Leica M lenses on the SL2 is a very bad idea because Leica M lenses are not developed for very high resolution sensors. It’s high time Leica updated their M lenses for high resolution sensors
