I use Spin-Clean. It's a lot of work for a large collection You can see the dirt at the bottom of the cleaner. This thing really works great.

I use 2 spin cleans, one with chem and the second with just h20. Does a great job. You can also clean a record in less than 30 seconds, which is a plus! if you are cleaning large amonuts of records.

I have the Pro-ject VC-E and it really does do a great job,I have rediscovered my Lps and some are 50yrs old, and after cleaning, are as good as the day I first took them out of the sleeve when I bought them..This is a great vid to show the differences of some popular cleaning machines..The only gripe I have about the VC-E, is it does not have a cover, like the larger model does, as an optional extra..but it`s easy to use, and does the job.

Have used the Project VC-E for a couple of years now. An easy mod I did was to tape a narrow piece of tape to the top clamp from the center out so I could count the revolutions ( the ocd in me). For applications, I always do side two (or B) first so when I turn it over the blower will further dry that side and side one will be face up on the TT. I have not done batches but have never had an issue with moist air out the vent.

Hi. Great overview video. I purchased the Pro-Jet VC-S2 after watching. It did a great job cleaning the records, but two flaws in design. 1) There’s nothing to catch the overspill as you put the cleaner on the record - it ended up running down the back of the machine by the cord. 2) The top metal clamp that covers the label has a foam rubber ‘gasket’ that allows fluid to seep onto the label and I ended up damaging every label on every record I cleaned. I used LPs of little value as test subjects and glad I did. They refunded the cost and said “Oh, sometimes production flaws happen.” To which I’d say, “That’s what quality checks are for.” I didn’t get a replacement because they use a foam rubber and it is inherently absorbent.

Sorry you had trouble, there is a bit of an art to applying the fluid, but once you get that down, you will not have either of those two issues.

I got a Knox Gear which is very similar to a spin clean but also comes with a drying rack. It is also a bit cheaper. I used it the first time last night and one record that was unlistenable and while still lots of noise it was much better. I had already done a semi wet clean on it by microfiber as many record stores do.

Love my VC-E. Very easy. Have had it for a couple of tears now. The ultrasonic cleaners interested me but more time consuming and way more costly. I’ve always wondered if I should try a stiffer brush though other than the ProJect one. I saw someone using a nail brush etc.

We would suggest you stick with the brush it came with, but keep it clean along with the velvet pieces and replace them when they show wear. The VCE is fantastic for the $$ and does a great job

To be honest, as a new hobbyist that sometimes buys stacks of used records since there’s always many I don’t have at the store I just skip the spin clean step and brush the dust off with a good vinyl brush, lay the record on a microfiber cloth, spray its surface with a cleaning solution and follow the grooves around with another microfiber, then finish by going around the record again with one of those fine felt like cleaning brushes. I considered buying a spin clean from the start but if I have to take it out and lay it down and wipe around it anyway I can just start there 🤷🏼‍♂️ So far I’ve been able to get my records very clean. Then, I replace the inner sleeve with a mofi sleeve when putting the record back away clean

The Spin Clean is worrisome in that it may first move the dirt around in the grooves and actually do damage. After all, nothing is suctioning the dirt out in the cleaning regimen. Thoughts?

Great video I own the the Project VC-E machine (I did at one point owned the original VCS machine the one that was made out of that compressed wood but, sadly it leaked on me so they upgraded me to this one) I too was a little miffed that you had to put that plastic flex disk underneath, I like the Idea of the machine that it just grabbed on the label! So I made a vent for it cutting a piece of soda bottle & taping it on there to vent it out. Sure it would have been nice if they put the vent on the side like it's brother!! I was even think of drilling a hole & putting the vent on the side.. But, the vent I put on the top works. My question is which machine makes the least noise? Thanks

The Audio Desk Systeme Vinyl Cleaner is expensive, but it is superb. The best way to afford one is by partial ownership. If you’re in an Audio Club, or simply know some vinyl nerd friends, split one among several guys. That way, you’ll get it for a week/month at a time, can clean all your records at once, then pass the machine on to the next owner. I’ve seen it done!

I've found the Record Doctor V to be a happy medium between the Spin Clean and the Pro-Ject models. It is a little primitive, design-wise. But it gets the job done and if you can work around it's little quirks (hand turning, loud noise, substantial heat after five or six record cleanings), it's a great value for the money. I think the best advice however is to avoid thrashed records at any cost if you can help it. Also, you should make mention of the fact that any record cleaning machine, no matter what the cost, will never eliminate deep scratches embedded in a record's grooves.

I have used the Knosti Disco Antistat cleaner for about 5 years and I found it really good, Europe’s version of the spin clean but I decided to use a record cleaning machine, the Pro-Ject VCE , I found that the section was good but the air vent would soon cause problems and I had to use the “12” plastic protector to avoid water splashes, I also noticed water residue at the start of the record and on the run out so I decided to take it back , might use the Record Doctor now !

The Project VC-s2 Alu is a great RCM, it will outperform half-assed ultrasonics like the Humminguru and KLAudio that only use distilled water and no physical agitation. The Audiodesk is still superb at a higher price.

I've used both the Audio Desk and the Degritter. While it did a fantastic job when it worked, you don't hear much about the build issues of the Audio Desk. It's built like a tank, but unfortunately that means you can't open it up (without great damage being done) to replace small parts. I had two pumps break on me with the Audio Desk. Both times fix costs were pretty steep (hey yes i know the cost of the product itself is ridiculous). The repair costs, coupled with the fact you could not replace/repair a part yourself was the deal breaker for me. After the second break down, i shifted across to the Degritter. Nothing but a pleasure to use. Very adapable as in can change time of wet cycle, drying cycle or total cycle or even just run one cycle without the next. Very few moving parts that need to be replaced. Filters are small and cheap and easy to make yourself if need be. Easier to clean 10"/7" records. It tracks total cleans and reminds you in intervals when to change water, clean filter etc. Does it cleaner any better/worse than an Audio Desk - i don't thing so. But the build and adaptability make it superior in my eyes. The bigger questions is does it do a better job at cleaning vinyl than the other MUST cheaper methods - yes i believe it does. But the biggest differentiate factor it has is the ease. Drop in a vinyl, press a button, within 5 minutes you have a clean and dry record you can drop the needle on and play. You just can't beat that... if you can afford it!

The second unit is great for when you want to clean your vinyl at 02:00 A.M 🤪😂🤣😂🤦🏻‍♂️. Get a brush, a liquid and a cloth, store them vertically in new anti static bags and that's all 🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏻👋🏻

I had a spin clean. It works really well. Still, I got bored of cleaning records many at a time and seldom buy many at once anymore. I sold it. There is never smoke in my house and I hold my records correctly and handle them properly. So. No record of mine is cleaned more than once. I used distilled water in the spin clean. Now I just clean a record under the tap. Yeah. Residue argument. I think my records sound really good after a thorough clean in sink. Dry them properly. Spin clean is better if you have the patience and buy a lot of records at a time.

I use equal parts thumbtacks, gravel and bees in Kerosene, applied counter-clockwise in a circular motion with a lobster. Don't apply clock-wise, that would be ridiculous.

Spin clean applies way too much force to the record and if you don't clean out the pads and replace them regularly, you are basically grinding your records down with accumulated dirt and the worn out pads. Use bright light at an angle and you'll see the damage.

spin -clean is O.K. you can make your sink do the same the other machines are for stores where time is important -I Had a Huge Collection at one time and cleaned everone by hand with a mild detergent & distilled water and they all sound good I handeled all my records with cotton gloves-most Dirt & grease comes from your own hands-Sounds silly but clean your hands with soap & water with alcohol this will all bacteria & grease before a night of listening & occionally wipe hands with lysol wipes during handling records/ It will save a lot of cleaning down the road trust me/ OH one last thing Dust your equiptment & room

I've been dying to ask this question, but haven't had a chance to ask anyone. I'm almost 60 so I grew up with vinyl records. My question is, why on earth do people still play vinyl records? The snap, crackle and pop used to drive me nuts. CDs were a godsend and now you don't have to clean anything! So...why????

Vinyl has a different sound than CD. Many people prefer the pure analog sound of the recordings done before the mid eighties. For recordings done in the digital domain there really is no advantage to vinyl. But when you hear a good pressing that is all analog on a great system, it is pretty spectacular. There is also the social aspect of having people over to look through your records to reminisce and the ability to hold the album art in your hand. Thanks for watching

If you have good condition vinyl and learn how to clean your records properly and have enough humidity in the room to mimize static you won't hear much snap, crackle, and pops at all.

CD's sound artificial, synthetic, not real. Records have warmth and depth of sound, with feeling and emotion. That's my take. Always hated CD's even though I have many. But I have more records - over 2000 😉

@@TheDabbinDave We are not sure, it does not blow anything but air until you clean about 3 records in a row, otherwise, they work the same to us. The Spin Clean pre rinse for nasty is a good idea since you can pretty much bathe the record.

@@AudioAdvice I like to use my Record Doc longer than they suggest. I go three rotations forward and three back. I also do a rinse afterwards. A double LP would be like doing 8 records lol. When it released a few years ago, the original was around 500 bucks. I have not looked at them lately, I’m not in the market yet. My guess is, hopefully they reduced the price of the smaller one to $250-$300 to saturate the budget market. They probably just kept it at $500 and made the new one $750. In this economy they would move more units and have more profit if they lowered the price points. We shall see when I start looking. I just haven’t had the extra cash to pull the trigger on that. The plug on my Record Doctor V won’t stay in. I have a folded paper towel underneath to catch drops of liquid. I don’t think it even goes into a bladder or anything other than the interior of the box. The rim of the hole is protruding out like hemorrhoids after some Flammin Hot Doritos or Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Pringles!!! It’s not even high quality MDF or definitely not treated plywood. Maybe SWMBO will allow me to get one this year. I would definitely play more records. It’s a pain in the ass to do them manually. They thing is also stupid loud! I have to use ear plugs or headphones to protect my heating! It’s almost as bad as a riding mower! When I first got it, I made the mistake of cleaning one record without hearing protection. I had never played that record before and it sounded like something was wrong with it! Love the video, I don’t see any sort of need for an ultrasonic RCM. The original manual Record Doctor V does a good job. I just want higher quality materials, better results, and more efficient at a reasonable price. Pro-Jett has never let me down and has a wide price range for their turntables. I upgraded my 2013 Debut Carbon as far as I can and I traded it for an mmf-5.1. Which I am quite satisfied with. If I had the money I’d get an mug-7.3 with a 2m Black or even a Bronze. I have an upgraded 2m Blue on the Music Hall and the Pro-Ject. Or, I could butter her up for a Fanatec GT DD PRO at $700 and I don’t think that comes with the power boost power supply or load cell brake. SWMBO doesn’t even want me to get the GT7 PS4/PS5.25th Anniversary Edition lol.

Only a madman would have designed the exhaust to blow out onto the record. Makes me wonder what else that we can't see is badly designed.

It only impacts things if you clean about 6 sides. The machine works so fast, most people just clean an LP before playing. We still feel it is the best value wet cleaner we have ever seen.

Nop.....already after one side cleaned starts sending some vapour on the other side. Need to redirect the the vapour with the plastic disc on the hole or use some water pipes.....what a strange design by project!!!

I wouldn't want to try the spin clean. Some of my records have razor sharp edges.

Maybe one out of every thousand records we see were cut incorrectly and have a sharper edge, but not so sharp as to cut you. Use gloves if you are concerned. Hope this helps

Cleaned more than 6,000 records 7" and 12" I work in a record store dealing with a collection that goes back to 1988. Nothing better than elbow grease and a lint free cloth for Foxing mould etc. Also cleaned Jamaican press records (reused Vinyl pellets) Dude showed as an example a record wrapped in PVC ... Nah Never store your vinyl with PVC , plastic. Imagine using this machine for 6,000 plus records Not practical. Vinyl buddy is my go to! PS:Id never touch vinyl with any brush, its useless for LPs the grooves are too small for the brushes , waste of time.

The spin-clean fluid is not that good I tried using it and I still have crackles then I put distilled water in there with a tiny amount of alcohol redid the record and it was so much better😀 do not use spin clean fluid!!!!👎

Pro ject record cleaner. Nice...I really liked mine! Almost perfect! Mine worked for 3 months or maybe 100 records before it get broken. People in Pro-ject think that I have no warranty rights because I bought it online in another EU country.. I also live in the EU but obviously, Pro ject thinks that warranty is for pussies.

@@AudioAdvice They did. I will become another vacuum motor unit to my doorstep. Of course, they expect me to build in that motor unit. I sure can di this and I will do that, but there is still bitter taste because I must repair the unit myself altough they will send me just the part that is broken. Imagine what if I can not repair it myself even with original service part? This is still apsurd, but I will take it as it is as I need that record cleaner. Otherwise I would not buy it. However, apreciaze your kind support. It is interesting that you across the big pond have more understanding than the Pro ject headquorter which is about 350 miles away from my house.

Vinyl in general is a money-sucking business. Use CDs or digital content, get superior sound quality, less hassle and save money. Don't buy into the hype.

deionised water is better it's even more pure. distilled water has impurities in it's still. I'm better manual clean is the disco antistat the original machine. I don't like that method the cleaning either going one way and then the other way, a rocking motion forward to backwards and slowly rotating it 3 to 6 revolutions. keep the Brussels... should be goats hair, from collapsing and keeps them optimally straight better penetration, and 4 to 5 drops of soap but only soap for washing cars without the wax don't use dish soap. some 99%isopropanol can be used 10% won't do any harm to vinyl. but ethanol can damage vinyl make sure it's isopropanol rubbing alcohol only! anti-factor wetting agents leave a residue behind what can be hard to remove

We feel its a pretty simple to use all in one solution, yes you could construct something yourself for less, but most people just want to clean their vinyl. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts

I designed three different machines. Nothing on the market like mine. And I can tell you, they're doing a better job than any of these. Can't give more information, because I don't have the patent yet, but I believe in a year I'll be on the market with all three machines. Besides those created my own range of record brushes, and record cleaning fluid with the help of my brother in law who's a chemist professor. Did the testing as well. Checked all the records under a microscope. What these machines are capable of is nowhere near to my results. Can't wait to share it with all the enthusiasts.

You should look at the Disco Antistat.. if you get it there. Looks very similar but usually a little cheaper than SC. The 2 bushes on the DA are made of goat hairs. Using brushes apparently is better at agitation of the dirt and grime than the felt pads on the SC. There's a video on KZbin comparing the two and discussing this.
